on digg.com when you submit a new story it checks the links and content to see if there are any other similar stories out there, then give you back a list saying "we think it might be a repost of one of these" and then you look at the list and say yes it is i am dumb and cant search (or was too lazy too) or nope its new post it. That would be a nice feature to have around here.

We already have that but I think the links have to be exactly the same in order for it to work. Also people have to pay attention to them and click on them to verify information and date etc. Please correct me if I am wrong about the links having to be exactly the same please.

A solution would be nice, we are having a repost marathon in Freebies today.

on digg.com the links do no have to be the same (it may look for how similar they are though) but i think it also checks the content in the post.

I think the real solution is too stop people from posting at all until the have been registered for 90 days. This gives them time to learn the system. Most reposts come from newbies, not old timers.

not true. the people who post the most tend to get the most reposts, mainly because no matter how careful you are there's no way to avoid the occasional repost

we have a url checker in the freebies forum, but with big companies like dell/staples/amazon/buy.com having a ton of deals, we can't do the same sort of things in the other deal forums.
