Im having a problem with all the jpg coupons showing up.
I know I tend to complain about these things and Im usually ignored but doesnt anyone have any morals anymore?
My suggestion would be that the MODS require a link, email or letter when someone posts a jpg coupon. Personal info can be cropped or erased out.
This way, at least we know that the coupon wasnt fradulently created.
Also, for those of you thinking.. 'Shut the hell up, Jen'... Oh well.
I take this very personally. Corporate America raises the prices on things when there is a major loss. Im getting tired of paying for someone elses greed.

I am not sure what you mean about coupons, but let me tell you that the basic premise of the best slick deals are all about beating the system for me. I am sitting in here looking at a Koolance water cooling case that I got with waterblocks, tubing, and fans for $99 + shipping. It was supposed to be $399, it was a price mistake and I got away with it. I also have at my feet a samsung laser printer that I got for $30 after mail in rebates. Do I feel guilty about these? NO!
I do agree that photoshoping coupons to rip off a company is wrong! and I think that though the forum rating system, and though mod alerts they current system is adiquate. it would be very hard for the mods to filter every coupon and code that came across this site.
However, if the company makes their own mistakes, then I have no problem exploiting those mistakes for my own gain, I see that as capitalism.

like scherer said, if there is any question about validity, mod alert it. a lot of times i have no clue where they come from, i saw it somewhere else. as long as it hasn't been photoshopped, i have no problem using it/posting it.

You whine a lot for someone that wants things for free. Sometimes you get a coupon, that is legit, that would either be DIFFICULT to get a direct link to, or IMPOSSIBLE to get a direct link to, perhaps even to the point that if a thousand people download the coupon they would take it down. Yes this is their choice, but if its something that they didn't build tracking into the system, its their own f'n problem.

Listen bud.. I do like to get things for free when its offered and when I qualify for it. I do things legitimately and legally. The way the company offering the free item expects. When someone offers me something for nothing, Im in. If I like it, I buy it again. If not, nothing lost.
But when someone is deliberately scamming and scheming to get something for nothing, by hook or by crook, thats just wrong. There is a reason Subway or Hardees ( 2 most recent jpg coupons that Im aware of ) posts a survey to get the free sub or sandwich. They dont want to go broke on it because some computer wiz decided to share with everyone the photoshop way.
And anyway, sharing a direct link isnt what people are doing here.
A lot of employees of Fast Food vendors are minimum waged and dont give a rats a$$ if the company goes under. Add that to all of you who seem to think this is acceptable behavior. That adds up to the rest of us having to pay 6 bucks or better for a hamburger and ham sandwich at a fast food joint.
I bet youre the type who thinks its ok for the government to pay $40.00 for a 40 watt light bulb too, huh?
Oh.. and Next time you decide to debate me, know what youre talking about.

It said nothing about the bullsh*t youre blabbing about

Jen,
I love your freebies. No offense meant....but....
I think we are making a big deal of this. I agree with the theme that Scherer and Arjun mention - If you find a deliberate attempt by someone to post an "illegitimately created/modified coupon" then ModAlert it and it would be taken care of.
However, we here in Slickdeals live in the Grey zone. Most of the coupons say that they are not to be transferred, emailed, posted, etc. However, we do so. Even the DELL Coupons that we all love - they too exist in the gray area.
If there was clear black and white demarcations, then none of us would have got the slickest of deals....
Just my 1/50 bucks on the topic...

I have to agree with Jen. It's one thing to take advantage of a price mistake, which a company honors because it is legitimately (even if unintentionally) in their system. It is a whole other thing to DEFRAUD a company by shady coupons which were not there in the first place. If you can't back it up where you got it or how you came by it, it shouldn't be on this site. I'm not trying to rant here, and personally I think the mods do a great job here. Everytime I have mod alerted something, it has appeared to me that something was done about it.
It is ironic, though, that while the slickdeals rules say that no posts promulgating illegal activity are allowed (e.g., software or music piracy) some of the deals listed here DEPEND on lying about who you are, what you do or have done, or some other blatant misrepresentation in order to get the "deal." I'm sorry, but my integrity is worth more than the $5 (or $500, for that matter) discount. Don't kid yourself: there are very few things that are legitimately gray here, and people know it. People know when it is wrong, because their posts reflect it. They start talking about "getting caught" and the actions they took to avoid it. If what you are doing is legitimate, there should be no worry about getting "caught" and your behavior would demonstrate that. I have seen how people implicitly justify their unethical behavior here: "company x charges too much anyway," "I don't have any money so it's okay," "it's not wrong if I don't get caught."
Make no mistake about it: everybody pays for the cheaters. Legitimate deals are one thing, but I'd love to see the rest of the garbage go. I love freebies, I love discounts, and I LOVE this site. But I would be thrilled to see more peer pressure and more pressure from the mods on the purveyors of posts of alleged "deals" and "freebies" that turn our beloved slickdeals into "sleazedeals."

Even after that stupid Subway coupon freebie got deleted yesterday, we have somebody else posting the same thing today! STOP IT PEOPLE! If the Mods deemed it delete-worthy material, don't post it again!

I don't have any problem with, say, creating a false profile on FreeBizMags to (try and) get a subscription that I really want, because that sub only cost them a few dollars max. I also don't have any problem with faking a company name or somesuch to get little trinkets from huge corporations - it's not like my requesting a 99-cent keychain from Sony-AOL-Enron-Time-Warner-Microsoft™ is going to make a dent in the company budget. I won't, however, take advantage of any deals that could potentially hurt someone - I won't pretend that one of my family members has cancer to get a free teddy bear, and I won't request free samples from any of the smaller mom-and-pop sites that people post.
Basically, if they're set up to allow a massive number of freebies, I'm in. If not, I leave the lying up to others because it isn't worth it to me personally. But, as always, I'm just one person and others' opinions vary.

I wanted to take a moment to thank the MODS for putting the 'Subway' issue on a "sticky".
I also want to thank them for removing the coupon(s).
Its nice to know youre 'listening'.
Thanks

np jen, a pm to a mod goes a long way. personally i rarely enter the freebie forum, and most of the mod alerted posts from the freebie forum are repost i rarely check them. i just noticed it since it showed as the post in the freebie forum. so i didn't realize there was a current thread in question.

Hi,
I never saw the subway coupon thread, and I completely agree with the fact that people should never photoshop or edit coupons to cheat companies out of money. But being curious as I am I would just like to see what the subway coupon was and what kind of a fraudulent job they did, this may sound suspicious, but really I am just curious.
Thanks
Keep up the good work Jen, you have a lot of awesome posts!

basically all the coupon was a business card size coupon saying thanks for filling out the survey, coupon for 1 free 12" sub. it doesn't appear to be photoshopped from a quick look.
since no proof of where the coupon was given, we assume its fake. if someone can prove its a real coupon (not that it works, that its a genuine coupon issued by subway) we can bring it back. for obvious reasons sending you the coupon would defeat the purpose of deleting it.
this may sound suspicious, but really I am just curious.
Riiight.

I don't think jpgs are a problem at all. Photoshopping of coupons is incredibly rare (who would go to the trouble of working 2 hours to get a free $3 sandwich?). As has been said, a lot of the time a direct link is impossible. Asking to include the letter, while it could at times be helpful, is more often than not rather pointless. If they published the coupon, I'm going to use it. It's free game.
