Please remember that referrals, and any other type of self promotion is not permitted here.
This covers:
Posting your personal referral link on the board, in PM system, or in your signature.
Requesting to use someone else's referral link on the board, PM or signature.
Linking to websites that contain other peoples referral IDs or Referral Conga Lines.
The Moderators do read peoples' signatures. Some can even check a persons PM history if illegal/fraudulent activity is suspected. If we ask for you to change/remove a part of your signature, please do so. Or you could lose the ability to have a signature/Custom User Title.
Remember, you cannot promote your referral information here. You are more than welcome to discuss those sites in Deal Talk, but once the conversations turns to soliciting referrals, the thread will be closed and/or removed.
Please take the time to remove anything from your signature or Custom User Title could be seen as soliciting referrals, implying the use of a referral, etc.
They are not allowed here at all.
Thank you

Does anyone have a list of common referral ID types? As in, what you may expect to see in a linked url posted as a hot deal or something similar. I've looked at a number of URLs that may be affiliate links but I'm not too sure, like adid=xxxxx for buy.com as an example (don't know if that is even a referral type of link). Some are pretty obvious but others aren't.

Affiliate links are similar to referrals, but different at the same time. They are used for companies. The best example is the URLs here. When they are clicked on by a member (for example Amazon.com) the URL changes so that SD becomes the affiliate.
As for referrals, they are fairly obvious. The referral tag is at the end, and it normally r=XXXX, ref=XXX, rid=xxx, etc. The most obvious one is when the referral tag has the same name/word at the end, as the person making the post.

Who exactly has the ability to read Private Messages? Under what circumstances is the reading user Private Messages deemed appropriate? Is there a safe guard protecting users from inappropriate use of this power?
random.

"Some can even check a persons PM history"
I would assume that "some" = maybe super moderators and definitely admin/co-admin.
As far as when it's deemed appropriate, she did say "if illegal/fraudulent acitivity is suspected"
If you think someone is checking/looking through your PMs without just cause then you should probably just email Mr. SD.

admins & co-admins (http://forums.slickdeals.net/showgroups.php)
If given the choice, we prefer not to dig into people's PM's.

Thanks for the reply. I was hoping for a response from a member of the Mod team or a Site Administrator because these people would know the facts rather than having to resort to assumptions. Further, I was asking if there were circumstances beyond illegal/fraudulent activity that would bring a person to read the Private Messages of SDers. Last, I have no reason to suspect that anyone is checking/looking at PMs. Again, thanks for the consideration of your reply.

to further clarify, really the only time it has been done in the past if its a he said she said type thing. only if someone makes a pretty serious claim about something being said in pm's would it be looked at. pm's are treated as private and only looked at when absolutely necessary.
