Many websites put spyware cookies from their affiliate partners and i started getting concerned with many websites, including slickdeals.net itself and it is necessary for other users to note it. I am sure that moderator/slickdeals owner may not like it, but other users should discuss it and rectify the problem so people like me feel confortable using this website..details below....
I cleaned all my cookies using ad-aware se software, then went to slickdeals.net, forums. Then run the ad-aware program again to notice that there are two spyware cookies (atdmt.com and doubleclick.net), which program says that this cookie is known to collect information that may be used either for targeted advertising, or tracking users across a particular website, such as page views or ad click thrus.
I take it seriously, and expect that moderator etc. or expert can clarify regarding it. :reaper:

You take a cookie seriously? Wow, you're obsessed. So what if SlickDeals puts affiliate cookies in? That's why it was made anyway, to make money through affiliate links...

Turn your cookies off... You'll just need to login every time. :O

I would recommend you install this
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

It blocks spyware cookie for both IE and Firefox.

Doubleclick.net provides information on opting out (http://www.doubleclick.com/us/about_doubleclick/privacy/ad-cookie/) of their ad-serving, i.e., you can set a "blank" cookie. You're supposed to be able to do it here (http://optout.doubleclick.net/cgi-bin/dclk/optout.pl)... but the page isn't loading (I have done it before).

Also, there is information on opting out in the same way from many companies, available through www.networkadvertising.org.... but that website won't work if cookies are disabled!

tracking cookie is profitable business for many companies, but I don't want to accept any on my computer. Actually, I found that in firefox I can select above spyware cookies to be rejected (by removing all unknown cookies and selecting to block any more cookie from them). That is working fine, and I cannot trust any advertising cookie even though KEAAA thinks it is harmless.

easiest thing is to turn off your cookie accepting if you don't want any cookies at all.

i've turned it onto 'prompt for 1st/3rd party cookies' this way when a someone wants to save a cookie, its easy enough just to hit block on em if they seem suspicious. It works for me at least.

That seems to still allow some cookies through, i.e., doubleclick, cgi-bin, etc. I'm always deleting cookies that miraculously appear without having prompted me, though those sites are on my block list. The big problem with disabling cookies is that there are so many sites that don't work properly without them, and they don't even bother to tell you that they require cookies.
