View Full Version : Condom broke *At What Point Does Life Begin?

Since this is now a debate, it is Podium Time.
At what point does life begin?
I'm re-uping this and if you have a problem talk to me man to man.
Op's you have a lot of nerve. I'm disgusted with this. Locking a thread and leaving a reason is one thing. That's a whole lot better then completely deleting it when a guy really could use some help.
Anyway thanks for all the great responses. I'm not ready to be a father she's not ready to be a mother. Maybe we have a future who knows but we're just kids right now and I hope you can respect that.
Like I said my mom took a birth control pill and here I am today! How efficient are these things? Anybody have any insight? Whats the earliest she can take a pregnancy test

I believe there are now pregnancy tests that can be used 5 days before the expected start date of her next period.
Maybe she should consider taking the pill on a regular basis so you two don't have any more scares like this.
If you had visited Office Depot instead, you wouldn't be in this situation.

Like someone else said... ask your hospital or pharmacist. Is she over 18? If so then it sould be fairly easy. If not...then either man up and get one of her parents to help her the the pill...or find a way round that...although I don't advocate fibbing *disclaimer inserted for saving face :P *

no, i did not have sex at the age of 20, nor prior. i had sex on 2/14/98 on my wedding night, at the age of 21. 5 years later, we had our daughter, then 2 years later, our first son, then 2 years later our twin boys.
if you can't handle the consequences of sex, don't do it.

what answers are you looking for? it was posted earlier that the pill works about 7 out of 8 times that it is used (87.5% effective). The chances of a girl getting pregnant are slim, and then when you compile that with the effectiveness of the pill, the chances get really small. So, sure there is a small risk, but its the best option you have.
Ive gone through this before, it makes you feel miserable everytime you think about and wait for the girl to have her period. When my condom broke, the girl's period was late by about a week. i wanted to shoot myself, luckily it all worked... she had her period.

In what reality (in this day and age not over a century ago) are a pair of 14 year olds mature enough to raise a child? Unless the kid's girlfriend is his teacher; the morning after pill, abortion, ect. should all be viable options.

You're not thinking about the life of a 14 year old girl that will be affected by carriing a child full term. You are narrowly thinking about MAYBE a two week old fetus. Mold on bread has more life at that point. We're not talking about a 2nd or 3rd trimester abortion, this is the first trimester of the first trimester (first month MAYBE if not week).
If you feel better having a 14 year old girl be an incubater just so some other people can raise a child, go start spreading your seed. I don't think someone should have to give birth just because they are pregnant, they should have the choice of continuing their life and learning from their mistake.

In all seriousness, how is that not a responsible thought?
In what reality (in this day and age not over a century ago) are a pair of 14 year olds mature enough to raise a child? Unless the kid's girlfriend is his teacher; the morning after pill, abortion, ect. should all be viable options.
:iagree:
Murder is a really responsible thought. I can't imagine not murdering my own child so my life is a little bit easier....

OP, yes, you guys should have thought about the possible consequences of having sex. Obviously, you did consider it to an extent, thus, you used a condom. But as you have heard several times, I'm sure, the only fool-proof way to not get pregnant is to not have sex. You guys now have a lot of responsibility, especially if she is in fact pregnant. Take the time to think it through, and realize that life isn't just about you nor her. I was once a pregnant teenager also, so I know how you feel, but don't let the fear make the decision for you.

ok... thats a fair opinion... it doesnt match up with my opinion. Nonetheless.... these are our opinions. we dont really know whats fact or whats just speculation. sure religion tries to impose facts regarding this subject, but not all religions do it the same way. Thats why this whole issue is muddled up... thats why i dont understand when people try and state their opinion as "fact" or say that its "murder"

I don't concern myself when it is considered a life really. Just because I don't agree with you while you repeat the same old thing doesn't mean I'm not intitled to my opinion, just as you are. I think the harm done to the life of a person who is not ready to have a child out weights that of a group of cells that have formed together only weeks earlier.
Whether or not the person has the option to raise the child or give it up for adoption, she shouldn't have to go full term is she doesn't want to. If you would have liked to go full term when you were a freshman in HS, that's fine enjoy.

Yes, kids that age shouldn't be having sex, but that is an unfortunate consquence of being young, not much foresight. Who knows what they we taught about safe sex either? They might follow the 'Pull out and put it on' method, whatever... we established they are dim.
They would be accepting the consequences by dealing with it, either by going full term, having an abortion, morning after pill, ect.. they wouldn't be just ignoring the situation. Unless you have never killed a bug, rodent, plant, or other living organism on this planet, you are being a bit hypocritical. Your faith is what allows you to believe a that the child is alive at the point of conception, that doesn't make it true or mean that people need to acquiesce to your views. Deal with the murder or become a vegan Buddhist and we'll talk.
If the child is really alive at conception and your faith is correct, it should be either sent to heaven, given another chance in reincarnation, or any of the other choices for where a soul/spirtual energy goes when it is released from a vessel. These are all not bad options if you truely have faith in your religion.

But the Child never gets a choice in the matter, Just bam, done, life over. You can bring up all sorts of living creatures that I have killed, but I've never killed a human, why? Because humans are the only organisms that have a soul. Seriously though dude, do what you want. I'm not some psycho-suicide-bomb-abortion-clinic guy.

First of all, it is part of your faith and opinion that only humans have souls. There are many that would disagree and state that every living being has a soul.
The child is not developed enough to have the ability to have a choice and it isn't the baby's choice, nor should it be. Just like parents tell their childtren, "I know best, you'll understand someday" you are actually debating that the child should have a choice to say "Keep me full term so you can miss school and work in McDonalds to barely make ends meet".
I'm not knocking your views, I'm "pro-choice". People should have the options to have the baby or not have the baby. I am prolife to a degree, but life is not a blind course and sometimes choices have to be made. It is the woman's choice, unless she allows the man input. If she is thoughtful enough and able phsycally/mentally to bring a child into this world for someone else to raise or for her to raise, more power to her. If she can't handle it, she should be able to have an abortion at the point where the baby is not biologically a live human being yet.
All of your faith is a beautiful thing and I have mine as well. In reality and in the world of tangibly measurable things, you have to sometimes weight all factors not just your sense of what my conceptually be.
It is punishable by death for killing someone already born because that is the current law. Lobby Congress and the Supreme Court to have the law extend to a fetus.
As far as doing what I want, I would handle things very differently now than when I was in High School. Firstly I didn't have sex in HS, since I didn't want to deal with accidents. Secondly, if an accident happened now I'd approach it as an opporutnity that would have to be discussed and I'd respect her choice.

You're taking that part too literally. I just meant that the baby has no idea the conditions it is going to be born into or the parent's competency. There should be licences to have children where the learner's permit allows people to have sex. If there is a very mature 14 year old that has a strong family structure that can help her raise the child or assist with the medical while she goes full term to give the baby for adoption, fine. Pragmatically the baby does not have the cognative abilities to have a choice in the matter, as it does not have the knowledge, experience, or abiltiy to have a choice.

I think it should be based neurologically. If that group of cells can feel pain, and subsequently suffer as a result of it, then it should be too late for an abortion.

birth –noun
1. an act or instance of being born: the day of his birth.
2. the act or process of bearing or bringing forth offspring; childbirth; parturition: a difficult birth.
3. lineage; extraction; descent: of Grecian birth.
4. high or noble lineage: to be foolishly vain about one's birth.
5. natural heritage: a musician by birth.
6. any coming into existence; origin; beginning: the birth of Protestantism; the birth of an idea.
