There are a hand full of people out there who are constantly helping out with tech support and when I, and IM sure other, try to give them more rep points, a stupid message comes up that says you must spread rep points around before giving it to X person who deserved it.
Thats bullshit. Spread them around. To whom? somebody who didnt help!
This needs to be fixed if reputation points are to remain. It makes no sense.

I believe the reason that "feature" was implemented was so that two people don't keep pumping up each other's rep points. Also so that someone doesn't make a different login just to give themself more rep.
I would suggest either lowering your standard as to what kind of post deserves a rep point, or stop giving rep points. If you like the concept of rep points, go with the first option.

i think your wrong. If thats a huge worry, then get rid of rep points all together.

I think that members should be given a limited amount of rep points to give to people BUT they can only get those points if they make 50 posts or something to avoid people making up accounts and giving themselves rep points.

what's the big deal about rep points? or post count? you can't buy anything with them, you don't get you anywhere in life, there is no special seat waiting for you in heaven etc etc.
i hardly ever give out rep points, if I appreciate someones post, I'll let him/her know in the thread it concerns.

Nobody's forcing you to give out rep points. You can turn yours off in the User CP if you don't want anybody to give any to you.

actually if you print out the webpage with your rep points shown..you can cut them out and mail it to Slickdeals.net, PO Box 34832, Rep points rebate Catalog, Bruthorford, Alabama, 76329. You will get a catalog of freebies that you can get by turning in your rep points. Its a cool little program!

I wonder how many people are gonna do that now lol
Im really getting tired of seeing every post in the hot deals forum begging for rep. points. If they dont mention it in the first post, you see them pop in 5 posts down telling everyone to give them a rep. point since they posted such a great deal...... please sd.... take them away!

I think rep points are a good idea BUT they are subject to misuse---under as well as overuse and therefore are irrelavent! :worship:

When I see someone begging for rep points I award them to everyone in the thread other than the OP.

heres the thing, if you dont like rep points heres what you need to understand:
for some SDers, reps are like crack. useless, but give you a great feeling. i enjoy having them, because it makes me feel special inside, but i will not lower myself to the level of begging. the most i have ever done is said "reps are appreciated, but not required" or "if you like, feel free to rep me" there is no requirement to do so, but i dont think the spreading of the love rule is stupid, it prevents abuse, which is somthing that we dont really want on these wonderful forums...
i also think that for all you NePRers out there, you need to take it easy a bit, chances are the mods wont welcome back NeRPs, and if they do, you wont be able to NeRP every motherNeRPing person you choose. there will probably be huge constraints, take some time to gether your materials and then present a strong case to the mods, even create a pertition. thatd be awesome. now im just ramblleing, lalalalala. the end.

NeRP - mightybluedot
This is exactly why we don't have them. People have to be allowed to express views slightly different than yours without fear of retaliation through negative rep points. In short, you're destroying your own cause. Much moreso than anyone else.
NeRP me baby!
