Can anyone help me? I am unable to print coupons from Smartsource/Cool Savings. The coupon printer is installed. I am able to print coupons from multiple other sites. This is the error I read:

Unable to Print Coupons
Please check that your default printer is turned on and working properly

Again, I am able to print from all other sites and applications. Any ideas?

Can you verify that the printer you expect to use is set to be the default printer?

When printing coupons from that site, it does not give you the option of selecting a printer, it just grabs the one identified as the default. If another device (such as a .pdf printer or the MS XPS printer) is identified as default, it won't work.

In the advanced tab of your printer properties, uncheck "Keep printed documents." That can inhibit printing, because the coupon companies don't want you to print multiple copies.

Consider emailing them at their contact email address at the bottom of their page. Provide as many details as you can.

Thanks for responding. I check and my Xerox is my default printer. I called in to Xerox help, but they weren't any! :( They said to uninstall and reinstall the coupon printer - but I can't find it. DANG!

I have never printed any coupons from their site. I have also had issues with the other 3 computers that print to the Xerox. I installed and ran the program on all of them, but no luck!

I will try this in the morning and let you know. Again thank you!

It's not a Xerox problem so I would not expect them to help.

Did you do what I said about the advanced tab and "Keep printed documents" and did you send an email to Smartsource?

To force a reinstallation of the coupon printer, go to Add/Remove programs in the control panel and uninstall "Coupon Printer for Windows." Reboot. The next time you try to print coupons the coupon printer software should be reinstalled.

What browser and version are you using? IE 6 or higher or FF 1.0 or higher are required.

Add the smartsource website to your trusted zone. Maybe your browser is preventing the activeX control from running.

Verify that the printer resolution is at least 300 dpi.

Clear cache and cookies. Maybe some cookies or temporary files are corrupt and this would clear the problem.

I will try this in the morning and let you know. Again thank you!

I have cleared my cookies and files. I could not find the advanced topic that you suggested. I even ran a search under the printer advanced tab in help. I also could not find the program under my add/remove files, but am unable to opt to download the program again.

I re-emailed smartsource for a second time with the pertinent information and am awaiting a response. Odd that this error is happening on 3 separate computers that I downloaded the printer to at separate times.

Thanks for you time and help! Hopefully your information can help another SDer!

What model printer is your Xerox?Add/remove programs (not files) in the control panel.

Did you add the website to your browser's list of trusted sites? What browser are you using?

I am using IE 7.0. I have a Xerox Phaser 6180. I tried to add it to my list, but it did not ask me if I wanted to add it when I went to the site.

I meant to say programs not files. You see how tech savvy I am! I did get to that window though. I did find a print audit facilities manager ICE - do you think that could be it? This program is listed as being used rarely, but does not list last time used like the other programs do. I can not see anything else that looks like it.

I added it to my trusted sites list. I believe I followed every step to install when the box popped up to install active control, but again I do not see the program in my add/remove programs. Every time I click on the install coupon printer from the website it sends me directly to the FAQ Homepage.

I found the advanced tab and keep printed documents is not checked. My printer is a color laser and is above 300 dpi and not in draft mode.

Thank you again for your help! I keep trying any recommendations.

Have you added the SmartSource website to your list of trusted sites? In IE, navigate to SmartSource.com, open Tools, Internet Options, Security tab, click on "Trusted Sites," click on "Sites," click on "Add."

I'm wondering if the Coupon Printer activeX control was installed or not. If SmartSource.com is NOT in your trusted list, then it can't install the ActiveX control it needs to in order to print coupons.

Is your printer set to a medium or better resolution? If it's set to low resolution (below 300 dpi) it won't print coupons. Draft mode won't work.

Did you find the Advanced tab on your printer properties?

I was wrong about the program appearing on the list of installed programs. It's an ActiveX control, which won't appear on the list.

Clicking on the link concerning the coupon printer does take one only to the FAQ about the printer.

I wonder if you could use another browser, such as Firefox, just to see if the problem is related to the printer or Internet Explorer. If it works w/ FF, then the problem is with IE. If it works with neither browser, then it's likely printer-related.

Do you have any security software installed which may be inhibiting the installation of the ActiveX control? For example, some AV software identifies that particular coupon printer control as potentially harmful.

Yes I have AVG, but usually a link pops up at the top of the screen and I can choose to click it and install. That is what I did.

I only have IE on my computer. I download Firefox. Went to Smartsource and tried to install the coupon printer - Firefox said it is missing a plug in adn the plug in finder could not locate. It asked me if I wanted to restart Firefox and I did. It loaded the coupon to print and gave me the same error as before. "Unable to Print Coupons
Please check that your default printer is turned on and working properly"

I now realize that it is not my printer. It seems to be that missing plug in. Unfortunately I can not get Smartsource to respond.

IE and FF use different "plug-ins." IE uses an ActiveX control. FF uses an Add-on.

Once FF installs the add-on, you have to restart FF in order for the add-on to work.

In FF, click on Tools, Add-ons, and examine your list of installed Add-ons. You should see the coupon printer there.

You should see images like the attached (#1, 2, 4, 5, 6) as you progress in the installation. Did you see all of them? If not, which were missing?

If the FF Coupon Printer shows up in the list of add-ons as being fully installed, then it's likely some setting with your printer.

It is complete - it is my printer. UUUUURRRRRGGGG! Thanks again you have been more than kind with your time!

OP reports via PM that this last step fixed the problem.

I also face a similar problem.

My printer is a HP Laserjet 4350.

Issue faced is same as OP. Issues faced both with IE 6.0 as well as Firefox.

Looking at the sucess of this OP, I see hope.

I was able to print successfully to a file using the PCL6 driver for the HPLJ4350 without making any changes to printer properties.

Can you provide more detail about your situation and what you've tried already?

I am also using the PCL 6 driver for this printer.

I simply get an error "We're sorry there has been an internal error processing your request."

I had installed the coupon printer too, but no use. I sent an email to smartsource too, but no response.

Any other inputs u need to help me out.

In all I sent them 3 emails over 2 weeks. The same day my problem was solved, they sent me two reply emails that said the same as their website. Did you try to make the same changes as were recommended for me?

In FF, I see the Coupon printer present in Add-ons, but the option button is disabled. Is that any indication of where the problem may be ?

I am having the exact same problem!! My printer is a Lexmark X2500. I used to print from this site with my old computer and printer, but as soon as I hooked these up, I get this same error message.

Any ideas?? Very frustrating! Thanks!

A number of suggestions have been presented in this thread already.

If you exhaust this existing list, let us know which suggestions you tried.

Okay, I've tried both IE and FF. I checked to make sure the add-on did get on FF, and it was there, so that's not the problem. I erased cookies and temporary files, and made sure the printer was set as the default.

I can print coupons from other sites just fine, but not ones that have to do with smartsource (like cool savings).

It seems like it's the printer, somehow.

Smartsource is picky about printer settings. Go into your printer's properties and look around, possibly in advanced settings. Before you start changing properties, familiarize yourself with their default state, so you can set them back after you try things.

If there is an option to "Keep printed documents," turn that off. Try again. Look at the other properties to see if any are to be used to resolve printing issues. One of other problem discussed in this thread was resolved by turning on "High speed printing mode," which the properties identified as an option to use to solve problems.

Try different resolutions. Draft mode probably won't work. 300 dpi is the minimum, so that bar codes scan accurately.

Make sure that smartsource.com is in your browser's trusted zone and that pop ups are allowed for the site.

I have tried all of these things, and still nothing. I also e-mailed smart source, but no real answer from them.

I cannot get IE to install the Active X control to allow smartsource coupon printing. Any ideas? I click the yellow warning bar and say yes to install the control, then I get the dialog box with the Install and Don't Install buttons. I select Install and nothing happens...IE displays the same page again that says I need to install the Active X control.

This happened with IE 6.0 so today I finally installed 7.0.

I've got smartsource and coupons.smartsource in my trusted sites. Have closed and reopened IE.

No problems printing with Netscape and Smartsource.

Clear cache & cookies & try again (maybe you've already done that).

Maybe the control is not getting installed at all, or there is a corrupt version of it installed.

Go to Tools, Manage Add-ons, Enable/Disable Add-ons, select "Show Add-ons that have been used by Internet Explorer," sort the add-ons by name, and look for the ActiveX control named "CMV5 Class." Click on that control name. See if the status appears to be Enabled or Disabled. Click on delete to remove it.

Restart IE and try to print a coupon again. If installation of the control fails again, check again to see if the control got installed or not.

Thanks for the guidance. I don't have that control; checked all 4 drop-down lists in the Show drop-down, including the "Add-ons that have been used by Internet Explorer."

My laptop works with Smartsource & IE 6.0 but my desktop is giving me problems.

I'm reluctant to delete all cookies.

bluedevils - I agree. It sounds like the activex control is not getting installed. If you get a minute can you check to see which version of the Java JRE you are running. You can check this at a site like http://www.javatester.org/version.html

If you can, please report the version back here.

Thanks

I use to be able to use Coupons.com and Boodle.com before my computer got fixed and installed with AVG and Spybot. I can print from smartsource.com in FireFox but not IE. In IE the page comes up, but the yellow install bar doesnt pop up when i try installing the printer. I can't get coupon.com or boodle.com to even open on either IE or FireFox. It keeps saying timed out and page not found.

Xnarg advised that I should....

Try turning all security off - close IE, then shut down your anti-virus, anti-spyware, and firewall - just this one time as a troubleshooting measure. If it works, then turn them back on and see which one is causing the problem.

I'm most suspicious of a some corruption to IE itself. When you fix malware, you can get rid of the malware itself but that alone does not repair Windows files which were damaged. You might try reinstalling IE7 (I'm assuming that's the version you have...if you don't, then you should upgrade to it).

I'm assuming that you've cleared your cache and cookies in IE and that you've verified that you've added all the appropriate websites to your list of trusted sites (Tools, Internet options, Security, Trusted sites, sites).

I can't figure out how to turn off AVG and spybot. I'll post my results as soon I figure it out and try it.

Thanks Xnarg!

n IE, navigate to SmartSource.com, open Tools, Internet Options, Security tab, click on "Trusted Sites," click on "Sites," click on "Add."

You can't do that in IE6
"Sites added to this zone must have the prefix "https""

I too had this problem, but with a Lexmark. First it was with Coupons.com and the "Keep printed", so I changed that, but it didn't affect Smartsource, still got the same msg as you.

Wanted to share in case any one else encounters probs with Lexmark

Start Menu/ Control Panel/ Printers and Faxes

Left Hand Side "Set Printer Properties". Once there, click "advanced tab"

Click the "Start Printing Immediately"

Solved all my probs. Good luck to anyone w/ these probs. I just about pulled my hair out trying to fix this, until I found the last guy's suggestion about the actual printer speed, once I went thru all his other suggestions regarding spybot, etc. GREAT JOB GUY!! :)

I just bought a laptop with vista and I am having the same problem. I've done most everything that was stated previously, i at least now get the active x pop up, says it installs and then I get the "unable to print coupons, make your your default printer is on and ready" message. I am about to pull my hair out! I turned off firewall, i allowed smartcourse as a trusted site, i lowered my security measures, put printer on quick print, I downloaded firefox too and that didnt work either... Anyone want to walk thru this problem AGAIN with me??
