I received a coupon in the mail from XM Radio for 5 months subscription for $19.99 (no activation fee). When I called and the guy confirmed the offer I was accepting, I said "yes, unless there is a better deal that you are offering and I'll go with that." He immediately said, "we can do a year subscription for $77" which is an offer I read about on this forum and I have asked them for five times in the last few months. Each time they said it wasn't available. So perhaps that deal is back on the table. I noticed on the postcard it said for cars that have factory installed XM radios only. GOOD LUCK!

Yea I just got the 77/year about a week ago (first year doing that). I have never heard of the 20 for 5 months before though... That would be a really good deal if it could be repeated for um.... lets... EVER!

If you call XM (even as a current subscriber) and tell them to give you the $77/year or cancel your account, they will do it. They will send you to "Retention" and they will be glad to hook you up with it. The regular CRSs may or may not be able to do it but Retention's job is to keep you--at any cost.
Tell them to give you the $77/year or cancel your account...they'll do it. Be nice, be polite, but be firm and just repeat it: I want the $77/year or cancel my account.
Although...if you do the math, $19.99/5 months is a much better deal than $77/year. Then, at the end of that, go to the $77/year deal.

This is very-very YMMV. I read about an article how XM activation and cancellation might works (nobody's sure) and I tried it out. I've canceled my subscription but before that I unplugged the unit and left it unplugged for two weeks. What I've heard that they only send out the cancellation signal for a limited time and after that they stop doing it to conserve bandwidth. So I turned on my unit and kept listening their program. I canceled it 6 month ago and it's still running.
It is highly YMMV and I don't encourage anybody to do it and frankly I only use it like 15 minutes a day so even $77/year was just too much for it.

I just called them and tried to get the $77 and they wouldn't give it to me because I didn't get a formal offer for it. Somehow after talking to them they gave me 6 months at $38.85 (half the $77 for the slow ones). Don't ask me where that deal came from because I don't know. I have 2 radios and they applied it against my primary account. Overall a nice deal for some savings. :)

I'd like to know this also. I have a Sirius radio I got from Overstock for $30 that ran for a year after I hooked it up. It just ran out the other day and I guess I need to finally call them and sign up for their service. Any Sirius deals would be great.

Im quite curious... Has anyone tried this with Sirius? I have been an XM Subscriber for 4 years now since it came with my Honda Accord. I now have a Ford Escape Hybrid with Sirius and would like to keep it but I refuse to pay $13 a month. My old XM Plan i was on the $77 plan.
Anyone tried this with Sirius? Or know of any Sirius deals?

Sirius recently sent me an email offering a lifetime subscription for $399.99, that's $100 less then previously offered. Not sure if it only applies to existing customers. If the HOWARD20 code could be used for another 20% off, I may go for it.

The trick to getting someone to give you this is to talk to someone in the good ol' US of A. When you call XM, you get satellited to God knows where and speak to somebody that can read English, but doesn't know what he's saying or what you're saying. Ask for a supervisor in the US and once you speak with them, your life will be much easier!!

Called em last week and told them to cancel, was offered the $77 dollars for one year, then half that for 6 months, still told them no. Told them it wasn't in my budget. Then they offered me 3 months free to think about whether or not I really want to cancel. So I took the 3 free months.

I have not heard about the merger falling through. I heard it was in litigation, but nothing more than that...
That said, I think the answer to the "who's better" question is going to be split right down the middle. I think some people buy the Sirius package for Howard Stern, the NFL package, or a specific collegiate conference. Others like XM for MLB or another conference.
I am on XM, and I was about to jump to Sirius for the SEC, but now that they have jumped to XM, I'm not going anywhere. I woudn't be anti-Sirius because I think they are both great services.

I was thinking the same thing: $19.95/5 = $3.99/mo, $77/12 = $6.41/mo. Take the $19.95 deal, then see if they will renew it for you. If not, follow above instructions to get the $77/12 deal.

Yeah, there is still no decision on the XM/Sirius merger, hopefully soon.
XM has a New station for Rock & Zepplin Fans - XM 59 , XM LED (http://www.xmradio.com/ledzeppelin/index.xmc).
XM LED is a 24/7 celebration of the music and magic of Led Zeppelin.
A handcrafted channel dedicated to everything Led Zeppelin, including studio albums, rare and archival concerts, interviews, and listener interaction. A continuous and mystical radio voyage into the past, present, and future of the mighty Led Zeppelin.

I have a dilemma...
I have a JVC head unit that is XM ready, and I am waiting on an order from Crutchfield that will allow me to have XM go directly into the head unit. I would then be able to access XM from the head unit directly, and that direct connection would allow me to alledgedly have a better sound - CD quality.
I currently have a plug and play unit that will use a cassette adapter or an FM modulator (turn the channel to 88.3 FM). The sound with either configuration is OK, not great, but not terrible either. I believe there is a way to have a plug and play go directly into an auxilary outlet on the head unit; so it would allow me to avoid the FM mod thing.
For about an hour, I had the direct connection I mentioned in the first paragraph before the XM receiver that went behind the head unit crapped out, and I had to go back to Circuit City and have it uninstalled. For that hour, I found the sound quality to be not quite CD quality, and it was definitely not HD Radio quality as is my head unit. The XM Radio text on the head unit was awful too, although that has nothing to do with sound quality. I saw that when the guy at Circuit City was uninstalling the faulty receiver that he was using red and white RCA cables from the XM adapter to the head unit. I'm sure that this prohibits the radio from sounding like the quality of XM Radio like you would find on a factory-installed unit like in Hondas and Fords, or even on DirecTV.
If you were in this position, would you (a) go for the direct connection with the RCA cables or (b) stay with the plug-and-play, FM modulator option?
Sorry to jump so far off topic, but I figure that only satellite radio enthusiasts are reading this anyway.
Thanks!

I bought an XM radio for my girlfriend of 4 years. We broke up a few months ago (lesbian relationships are tough and all that...) and I called to cancel my (her?) subscription. I was immediately offered the "free for 3 months" deal, and when the 3 months was over, was able to get the $20.00 for 5 months. I didn't have to haggle or negotiate at all, but both times I was connected to extremely nice, open-minded females, with an acute understanding of the English language. That certainly helps. When this deal is up in 4 months I will call and get her the $77 for a year deal, unless there's something better at that point. After all.....we are still friends.

Do you know which XM direct unit you were using. Was it like this? (http://www.myradiostore.com/xm-radio-receivers/xmdirect-xmd1000-xmdjvc100.html) I have that for my Kenwood head unit and the sound is better than a cassete adapter of modulator. It connects in thru the CD Changer input so you control it thru the head unit. The text is'nt as good as a stand alone unit, it will only be Song title or Group Name, Station Name or Number. RCA's should also be better than a casette or modulor. In my opinion, after having both types, I much more perfer to have it thru my headunit hidden away. Its so much more convenient. Also,HD Radio (http://www.hdradio.com/) is something different than Sirius and XM.

Please listen--tell them that you want the $77/year deal or you want to cancel your subscription. Don't say anything else.
They won't cancel you, they'll transfer you to Retention instead. Just tell them over and over that you want the $77/year deal or you want to close the account, period. Don't be angry, just be nice, firm, and resolute. They have a whole department that's job is to retain you as a customer. Retention. Tell them what you want and if you don't get it, you want to close the account. If you schmooze the CSR, they might even give you some free months...mine gave me 3 free months for the hassle of having to call.
Even if you are on the family plan with more than 1 unit, you can still get it for the main unit in the plan. I have 4 units and I have the $77/year for the first one and $6.95 for the others.

Yes, that was exactly what was in before, and that was the one that worked for an hour. CC replaced that model with an identical Terk adapter, and it failed as well.
I have HD Radio with this head unit (http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?search=kd%2Dhdr1&i=257KDHDR1). The HD radio is awesome; the CD is awesome; and the XM with the Terk wasn't really better than regular FM stereo. I was expecting it to knock my socks off, and it certainly didn't. I understand what you are saying about getting rid of the wires, and that was one of my main motivating factors other than the sound quality improvement. I'm tempted to get this plug and play unit (http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?search=XpressRc&i=040SA10315), and try to get this wired into my aux jack in the JVC head unit. Very nice looking set up.

Despite XM's claim, I don't think its CD quality with any unit. I've had 5 different XM's over the years connected different ways and it's still not as clear as they claim. Also some channels sound better than others, higher bandwidth maybe? If you had 2 of those die it will probably keep happening. The adapter plugged into the cd changer jack right. That jack might have a problem and be causing the xm's to fail, and maybe it affected the sound quality. That Xpress has a sweet display. That should plug into the aux port with no problem.

You don't even have to play hardball. If they don't give it to you, hang up and call again in 5 minutes. Eventually one of them will give it to you. They don't pay their phone support enough to care. We call this "CSR Roulette".
I'm now on my 3rd year of this supposedly "one-time offer" and I have never received anything in the mail, given them any code, or anything. Just call them and tell them you want it. They will give it to you.

4 mths $4.99
6 mths $38.85
12 mths $77.00
I asked about the 5mth/19.99 and was told that was an option they were offering as well. I took the 5mth/19.99. Also, make sure they don't try to tack on an activation fee....they did that to me until I told them never mind I'll just cancel the service. The rep then waived the fee.

Called today to get the 77/yr. I called 1-800-347-0600 (fm the FW XM thread) and told the rep I wanted to cancel because we couldn't afford it. She verified my info and then transferred me to the cancellation dept. Spoke with Joseph and told him the same. He said no problem and then asked if I enjoyed the service. Told him Absolutely. He said he could offer me a couple deals. Offered me the 1 yr at half price 77/yr. I played dumb - acted surprised and said I would like that deal. So easy, I don't know why I put off calling. I had done the 3 month free scion code and then paid for one month before calling. I do have 2 more radios that I will be calling to cancel since I can always add them on to the first one. All 3 are currently on separate accts since I did the 3 free month scion code for each of them.

Just renewed my $77 deal from last year.
The customer representative (who spoke broken English) told me I couldn't get the $77, so I asked for the cancellation department.
The lady who answered was really nice and did the $77 no problem. My 2nd radio is only $83 b/c it's on the family plan. Then she credited my account $12.95 for switching from invoice to credit card too.

I've been on the $77/year plan since Dec of 2005 and recently I got a letter stating my rate is going up to $39/3 months. I called the CSR and he wouldn't honor the $77/year deal since I've already had it 2 years in a row. I told him I want to cancel my account and he xferred me to the cancellation dept. The lady was very nice and said "So if I can get you the $77/year plan, you'll stay with XM?" And of course I replied with "Yep". And so she did and I'm good to go for another year.

My free 3 months from Honda expired last week. I called and told the rep I received a $77 offer. She questioned me about it but I said I threw it away When asked for the offer code, I gave her the radio ID. It went through without any problems! I've read elsewher that if the first rep won't give it to you, call again until it works.

Nope, you can't. You have to use the "family plan" and it's like $6.99/mo for each extra radio.

Thanks again SD. My XM subscription was set to expire at the end of the month. I got a renewal notice in the mail which was for the full sub price. I really couldn't justify paying that as I typically listen only to CNN and BBC World Service and even those not that often. Just whenever I'm on a longish drive. I said I wanted to cancel. CSR transferred me to the Cancellation Dept where they offered me the $77/year deal.

I got the 77/yr deal too. Somehow though, I get the feeling everybody knows the game quite well including the folks on the other end. In the end, they keep the customer and we get a decent rate. :)

Just called XM Retention Dept... Got thru a nice lady and told her with Christmas time couldn't really afford the $142 a year
First offered me $9.99 a month and said I have a lot of bills due and couldn't swing it being very nice and we got into a nice conversation at which she then said "I'm not suppose to do this but I can give you one more year @ $77.00 and then you will have to pay either a promo rate or the full rate at that time " I gladly accepted
She typed away and all that and I thanked her for her kindness and disconnected...

anyone know the promo code for either deal? I am just finishing my initial free 3 months and the guy wanted a promo code, I gave him the XWINBACK for the 77$ but he said that rejected it. Said he couldn't do anything without the promo code. I will probably call back again since my initial 3 month trial ends on the 21st, I just don't want to be billed automatically on that day. Should I threat to cancel? I don't really want to cancel, I just don't want to pay the full price.

Call and tell them you enjoyed the free three months but are now calling to cancel. Give them a plausible reason (can't afford it, don't listen to it often enough, would like to try Sirius now ...). They will transfer you to retention department. Repeat your reason for cancelling and they'll offer you a deal.

I love this forum! I was ready to pay the full year subscription rate so as to renew my father's trial XM subscription for Xmas. After reading this thread, I called and got the $77/year rate AND the 3 months free! SWEET! Billing won't start until March (after the 3 months free) and then the year subscription kicks in. Hopefully, they'll get the $77/rate correct then - if not I'll remind them. But for now it's awesome!
By the way, what's with the Bank of America comment above?

After reading this thread I remembered it must be time for me to renew my service also since it's been a year since I signed up. I went to xmradio.com and it showed my balance due was $226.88! I have two radios on my account.
So...I called to cancel.
They tried not to give me any deal, but explained why I owed that amount.
I said, cancel them both.
The rep then offered me the $77 a year deal for each radio (which I don't think is much of a deal).
She then offered me $38 for 6 months with 1 month free.
I took that just because I didn't feel like being on the phone anymore. I'm sure she would've went to something better. They offer you the specials even without you asking for them. Crazy!

I also got the $77 deal. But I went further. Compusa is closing and they have XM gift cards in the section that says " 30% off Satellite Accessories". So I bought three years of gift cards for 30% off. Then called XM and used them for the $77 deal with Navtraffic an additional $48.

Last I heard the merger was suppose to be approved last week. XM does not have life time subscription.
The merger was suppose to be approved for the last month. I wouldn't expect the merger to fully go through till march or so.
They still need approval from DoJ and FCC. if they both go through then they can start the merger, and all the paper work and everything else such as getting the sat working together would take nearly a year.
basically the al la carte pricing might not happen till late 2008 which sigh i really waiting for.
Oh well im getting XM this xmas haha :)

FYI...the 3 months free isn't really free. You have to pay $38.++ for the first 3 months then they give you the next 3 months so it really comes out to be 1/2 of the $77 / year charge. Does anyone have any suggestions regarding activating 3 new radios? What is the best SLICK DEAL you can think of for this? Thanks.

Almost one year ago, I called about the $77 for 1 year deal when I read it here on slickdeals.net. When I told them this is what I was calling about, I was told that, "that was an offer that is no longer available!" I simply stayed strong and said, "I received something thta had a promotional offer of $77 for 1 yr., and this was the only reason, I called otherwise I don't want their service". BOOM, I got the deal!
PS I am absolutely oppossed to paying for radio but the funny thing is... I love it now! :) :) :)

I am not sure about other slickdealers but I for one bought a ton of the XM Gift cards at target when they were half price. I am sure you can find some on craigslist\ebay\whatever that people like myself have bought and are selling for less than retail. Just do a Google search and you should be able to find some. That will make your $77 a year subscription even cheaper.

My $77/year from last year came up today, so I called into Listener Care today. I am not sure what country I reached, but I could actually understand the female representative I was connected with.
I asked for the $20/5 month deal, and she said that it was for selected accounts and then asked if I received any promotional mailing or e-mail. I was like, "Uh, yeah a piece of mail that said $20 for 5 months." She then asked if I had a promotional code, and I told her my radio ID number (since that worked as my promo code on the $77 deal). She put me on hold forever, and then came back and told me that she applied the promotion to my account, and thanks for listening!
Great deal, OP. I'll see if I can re-up on this deal in 5 months, or I'll otherwise go back to $77! :)

the CSR I got claimsed it was for old accounts that were no longer with XM.
I tried to get her to get me as a new subscriber but it a no go, she only offered me the 6 months at 38 dollars + 15 dollar act fee.

Just called, told me NO to the $77 for a year deal, she said there is only a $77 for 1/2 year. i said i know you have this deal, and i think it is messed up that i am not going to get it. She then said there is no deal like that. I said, okay please cancel my service. She then transfered me to retentions where this guy asked me what the problem is. I said i feel like i am paying too much for the service, especially since they added commercials to some of the channels (damn clear channel). He then gave me the $77 for a year deal. with my luck if I kept trying if I got a CSR that would do the 5/20 they would of thrown in the 15 dollar Act fee.

Yeah that is the same thing I am afraid of, them actually canceling me when I threaten them. I have called 3 times before my 3 months ran out and each time they gave me the runaround, the last time telling me that they are merging (when I said I was thinking about sirius and I like their stuff but didn't have the money) and they said well the merger go into effect Jan 1.
Then he was acting like he was giving me inside info, something about if I lock in a year at 142 then even after the merger when the price will surely go up I will not have to pay anymore than that. I told them I don't have that kind of money to front and he told me to call sirius to see if they could do better.
How annoying...so now I got charged 12.95 automatically for the first month since it is a month to month basis. So when should I call again to possibly cancel or try for the 77? I don't want to wait till after the merger and then not be able to get it but do I have to wait for the end of my month first?

Are there any deals on the traffic package? I just got a gps that is XM compatible but wouldn't use it much for the music. I assume you have to have the music package to add the traffic so still probably a decent deal. Too bad the weather service costs $99/month.

It's not dead yet but it ain't easy, took several calls, probably about 45 mins total but I got the $77/yr deal again today. First the lady said she couldn't offer that deal to me again. I said fine then I will need to cancel one of my radios....got transferred to retentions where I was offered $120/yr. I said no, I was wanting the $77 rate. He said $120 was the cheapest they could offer for my primary radio. I called his bluff and I said ok, then I need to cancel one of the radios on my family plan. He asked for the radio ID I wanted to cancel, I gave it to him. Then he said, let me check with my supervisor first about the $77 rate, about 5 minutes later he came back and said they could do the $77/year rate, the supervisor has to put that rate into the computer according to him but who knows.

I just signed up for the 5 months for $20. It was so extremely easy. I called the number above and just said I received a flyer in the mail. $20 for 5 months. He's like "ok we'll get that set up for you". Then he asks if I would like a $12.95 credit for putting a credit card on file. I figured sure, why not. I always went out of my way to not let them keep a card on file, but 5 months for $7.05 seemed too good to be true. I just have to remember to add a year or some other plan before my 5 months is up.
One note, I had an issue previously where I signed up for the $77 year. They applied the $77 to quarterly payments ($38.85). By the second quarter they were looking for more money. I had to argue like hell with them to finally fix the error. It was clearly there error but they didn't want to budge. Finally, they extended my subscription by one year, so I actually ended up getting over 15 months for $77. They said that was the only way their system would let them do it. Worked for me, I am just concerned they will make another error here! I asked for a reference number and the guy gave me an activity id, so hopefully that will cover my a--.

We better get in while we can. It looks like the XM/Sirius merger is going to go through any day now and I'm pretty sure we'll be kissing these deals bye bye when it does. I just signed up for the 5 months for $20 and paid for a year @ $6.95 a month for my second radio. I better call up quick to see if I can add on another 5 months for $20 or at least get another $77 per year deal.
BTW, I've gotten in on this deal for four years running now. If you don't get a copperative CSR the first time, keep trying!

*edit* post too old to rep the op...sorry
I also just tried the same line - got a flier for the $20 for 5 months. The CSR said no problem and immediately applied it to my account. Very nice and easy!

Got the $77 with no hassle whatsoever. She quoted me the high prices and I said, "But my friend just got a year for $77," and she said, "Yes, we have that promotion running. I'll do that for you no problem."
Felt better with the year just in case the merger affects anything.

I tried last year, and talked to several CSR's..... no go....
This time, I called in to cancel, when the cancellation specialist came on, they tried to get me on a $9 a month plan, I said no, I wanted the 77 a year plan. She said, "let me check"....."Oh, we do have that available"...... like she'd never heard of it...... Yeah right........
I agree......... at least I know I'm good for the next year........
I'm afraid after the merger...... we're going to get screwed..........

they called me back afterwards and they gave me the promotion. She kept telling me well I can give you so and so plan for this price. I said I'm not even interested in hearing your offers unless you're going to give me the $77 a year and then hung up. 15 minutes later I got a call from someone else who said they will set it up for me at that price

I got it with my new car at the end of March. I called today to see about the $77 deal and they said I had to wait until my expiration date to be offered the deal. :(
The guy also told me that pretty soon XM and Sirius will be one company. I mentioned that I was thinking about switching out to Sirius and that was his answer.

Don't price match with sirius if you're going to do that. The merger of XM and Sirius is about to go through, and you'll be getting both stations anyway. Call into XM Radio and listen to their merger news.

I haven't been a customer with XM radio for about 6 months.
After seeing this thread, I called and spoke to two different CSRs. The second CSR said that "its a deal for cancelling customers." I told her that I thought it was a great deal and that I am really interested in the service. She said she was going to do a "one time exception". HAHA.

I still have 11 months left on my current $77 year. But with the merger approved I would not mind locking in $77/year for a few years now, if I can. I tried to do it and I got turned down. Has anybody been able to pull this off?

Just pulled it off in March. I told them I live in a big radio market and it is strictly supplemental. (I drive an 18 wheeler hahah!!) Worked perfect, transferred me to retentions and repeated my story.

Had the 5 mth for $19.99 deal...expires in 2 days. Called up to get it again...no deal. Told them I'd cancel then. Spoke with two different CRS's in the cancellation department. The best deal I was finally offered was the 1yr for $77. Last CSR then said I could get an additional $12.95 credit if I paid with a cc instead of them sending me a bill. $64.05yr($5.34mth) isn't a bad deal at all!

Depends on what you want to do with it. I have the Roady XT, which I like, because I can move it between my cars, as well as use it in my house. I also got several of the complete kits with antennas, docks, cords etc. for less than 20 bucks each, so I only have to move the little receiver around, which is smaller than a pack of playing cards.

Just got the $77 a year plan. Spoke to two CSR's who said the only deal they could give was an additional radio for $19.99...give me cancellations. Told him I was thinking of cancelling and asked what he could give me, he offered me $77 a year, and gave me a partial refund for this month, so my total for the year is $66.
Good enough for me, should have done this months ago

This sounds very similar to what happened to myself. I picked up a Sirius unit the first month they started. After about 6 months I got a new car and did not get around to hooking up the sirius receiver until about a year later. I had cancelled the subscription already but when I hooked it back up I still had full service and still do :)

for someone who does not have this what is the best receiver for it?
I had the roadyXT, it was a pretty good receiver. After a few months, i stumbled on a super slick deal on a skyFi3 for about $33. That is one of my favorite SDs ever! I spend a lot of time in my car, going in and out of it, and this is perfect for that situation. The unit allows me to pause what I am listening to and buffer up some talk radio, come back in about 20 minutes, and I can skip through all the commercials. Its awesome.
Also, when a song or comedy routine come on, I can click a button and save it for later. The unit is portable and you can use it as a mp3 player too with a microSD expansion slot.
This unit has made my driving significantly more enjoyable. If my current unit broke I would pay over $100 to get another. check ebay

Wasn't too hard for me, either. I called, and they wanted to know where I'd gotten the info on the $77. I said email. They said that email was for a radio I'd taken off my account a few months ago, and she couldn't do it on my main account.
So, I politely said that maybe I'd just cancel all of my radios... She didn't want me to do that. So, I told her that if she could give me the $77 on one radio, she could give it to me on another. She agreed that that seemed reasonable since I was "such a good customer."
So, my $77/year starts in August, 2008! (I was already paid up through then.)

Yes, it's whooey. Read the thread a bit and you'll see how people are doing it. The best thing I've learned from SD is that if the CSR that you're talking to won't do what you want, hang up and call back and get a brand new CSR.
Other general tips: be nice, be friendly, learn (and use) the CSR's name. Schmooze them! Be their friend and you'll have a higher success rate. (Judy? Hey, that's my sister's name! Where are you located? How's the weather there? It's cold/hot/rainy/sunny here!)

$77 deal is very much alive and kicking...If you are doing it as a new sub, you need to mention that you received a flyer about the $77 deal.
If they keep giving you issues about it, then tell them your co-worker next to you just got the $77 deal, and if they can't do it, then tell them you are not interested in signing up for service.

I called last week and got the $77 deal. I've paid full price for the last 2 years!! So I called and asked to cancel and they offered me the $77 deal.
Something I thought worth mentioning in this thread is... last Spring when Opie and Anthony got suspended for 30 days. I called to complain and they gave me 30 extra days added to my subscription. I know the info isn't really of any use right now, but if anything like that happens in the future... call and ask for replacement airtime!

I did as A previous poster sugjested .I called and said I recieved a flyer for the $77.00 deal. The guy actually did ask me for the code, so I said the flyer was at work, and I didn't have it. They wanted an activation fee, but I asked if they would waive it. I gave them my Visa info and that was that.
I 've got the Roady XT also.Mine was $40.00 at Kmart, and last night I found a $20.00 rebate for it. A local installer used a Delphi FM modulator, and put it in my Sonata today for $65.00. I guess you could say the sound is "very good" FM quality. I mostly will listen to talk radio so its not a big issue.
On a side note I was in Circuit City last week and they had all their Bracketron mounts for A couple bucks a .piece.I also saw them discounted at circuitcity.com Their made to be vehicle specific, but I found one i could mod, and use with my car. The whole thing ended up looking great, and very clean. I'm happy.
I think I might get A home kit, for the remote, and to take advantage of the subscription at home.

I was on the monthly billing plan and my credit card number changed so my account got turned off.
Just called up right now, told them I received a flyer in the mail at my house and when they asked me for the promo code I told the woman I was at work and the flyer was at my house. She offered me one year for $144 and I told her that didn't make sense since I was calling about a $77 deal.
She eventually said ok to the $77 and signed me up for a year. Painless and took about 10 minutes.

I was going to call and haggle for the 5 months for $19.99 and then the additional 3 free months from earlier, but now it sounds like I would get no where. We had a three month trial sub in our Honda Pilot. We listen to it quite a bit, especially on road trips, but I'm not about to pay even $6 a month for it with the $77 a year deal. Money is just too tight right now. Anyone having luck with smaller deals? Cheers!

I just called XM, told them a bunch of my friends received the $77/year deal  and I wanted to see if I could get it as well. The CSR said "those offers went out by postcard to only a few select people, but I will check with my manager to see what I can do". Then in less than 20 seconds, if not 10, she came back and said "OK you can get it". Less than 7 minutes on the phone and most of that was going through the initial voice prompts and giving her my credit card info.

Is there anything out there for new customers? I just bought a radio (the Inno 2 - so it is not one of the ones that comes preinstalled in a new car). I will be receiving the radio on Thursday and will activate it then. When I called XM and asked if they had any deals on subscriptions for new customers, they said no, that the deals I said my friends have gotten were for existing customers with the factory installed radios in their cars.
Does anybody know of anything out there for new subscribers?

I just got the $77 deal for the second year. My subscription was up so I called and they said I could not get the $77 deal again since I already had it. I tried saying my friend got it again but she wouldn't budge. She was not very friendly and I got frustrated and hung up. I called back and got someone else. Basically I told them right out of the gate I was going to cancel. She offered me a discount at 1st. It was for $119 instead of $144. I told her no. She said she could make an exception and give me the $77 rate again. So I'm good again until next May!

I called XM this morning to try and get in on this deal as well. Explained to them that I was canceling due to the fact that I was trying to cut expenses. I was on the $12.99 per month plan. They immediately offered me the $77 per year plan. If you try this and it is offered to you, ask them what your existing billing cycle is. I was already paid up through the end of the month, so they prorated the annual plan, so it only cost me $65.78 for a subscription through the end of June 2009.

ooo nice, didnt know this deal still was around
wish i knew after i applied my 1/2 off gift cards a few months back ($45 for $90)
This worked pretty easy for me a few weeks ago. I told the customer service rep that I received an offer for $77 for one year. She asked me if I had the code. I told her that there was no code on the offer. She said no problem and looked up the code herself.
I asked her to bill me--which she did. I also asked her if the one year would be added to the 3 month free trial I was working on. She didn't realize I had previously signed up for XM ( I was probably half way through the 3 months) . So, to make things easy (for her), she just tacked on 3 months to the one year. Bottom line: 15 months for $77.
I was waiting to activate a radio that I had.
I used XMSCION03 as the "promotion code" while activating on XM's website. Worked fine. 3 months free and they waive the activation fee. Didn't have to talk to anyone.

I ended up calling CS who would not offer me the 77/yr because I did not have a code! I told her I would call my "friend" to get the code and call back. When I called back, I told them I would cancel if I could not get the same offer my friend received, and they ended up giving it to me, for "customer satisfaction". Now my question??? I have 2 other radio's... anyone else have multiple radio's on the account, and did you get the deal for all of them? I have my other 2 at a 6.99 a month rate, and they could not apply the promotional rate to them... Which is fine, it would only be a few dollars difference, but I am curious!

I was just charged $7.09 and I entered in the SCION03 promo code and got my 3 months and free activation a month or so ago. But this $7.09 charge was on my card today and XM said this is a one time charge for something retarded I forgot what.
But thye said I would not pay anything for 2 more months and than the $77 a year plan would kick in.

I just got a renewal notice from XM because my $77/year promotion was expiring on July 8. I called the number on the letter (877-288-9058) and spoke with a nice lady (in the Caribbean) about my subscription. I explained I was due for renewal on July 8, and could not afford the $12.95 per month rate. She checked my account, and said that I already had the $77 rate last year, and that was the one expiring. I agreed, and she offered me a discounted multi-year package, which I refused. I told her it was the $77/year, or I would have to cancel all 3 of my radios (2 are on the family plan). She then offered me a year for $119, which I again refused. I again told her if she could not renew the plan at $77/year, I would have to disconnect. I explained that gas was costing me over $1000 per month (I deliver newspapers) and could not afford the normal price. She then offered me the $77/year deal again, for the second year. I thanked her for the offer, and accepted.
Two key elements to get this offer....be nice to the person on the phone, and emphasis that you will have to cancel if you can't get the $77 /year rate. Other than a few no answers to her offers, it could not have went any smoother, and I got what I asked for.

I had a $5.95/month for 3 months deal just expire. They "tried" to kick in the normal rate because I didn't call to cancel. I noticed the first day the charge went up on my CC. Called them up and that I was extremely unhappy they did that. I explained that I had only prepaid for 3 months because that was awesome deal, and that I was not going to pay $12.95/month for XM cause I didn't think it was worth it. Told them I wanted to cancel outright. They offered me the $77/year deal. I still said no. So the guy proceeds to tell me, they're going to refund me my $42.00 which was for another 3 months, and give me 3 more months FREE and he also gave me the renewal date so I could call and cancel if I didn't want to get charged the normal rate. I told him there was no way I could pass that up, so I now have the next 3 months of XM on them with a September 20th date to cancel. Who knows what they'll throw at me at that time in order to get me to stay. I love telling companies I'm gonna cancel.

I renewed today at $77/yr. I called and told them I wanted to cancel and was transferred to another department. The CSR in the "other department" asked why I wanted to cancel and offered me $120/yr. I politely refused, stating it was still too expensive. She then offered me $77/yr. No coupon code necessary.

any word on how the now approved merger will effect these deals?
Most likely, kiss them goodbye. But I was thinking...
I believe than one of the conditions of the merger is price freezes for three years. If we're currently paying $77 per year (or less, in some cases) and then they try to charge us $12.95 per month or whatever, could we complain to the FCC that our prices have increased and haven't been frozen? Hmmm...

I just received the "5 months for $19.99" offer in the mail from XM. I bought a 2008 Honda with XM and received 3 months free starting in late February. The free 3 months ran out in late May and I have turned down multiple mailings and a phone solicitation to subscribe to their service at regular rates. This past week (about 2 months after my 3-month trial ended), I received a mailing offering 5 months of service for a total of $19.99. Not bad. I may take them up on this $4/month deal, even if I do only use it for 30 minutes or so per day. College football is coming and I don't want to miss a game because I'm driving in my car. ;)

I added a second tuner to my subscription and was surprised it was just $6.99/mo, almost as good as the $77 (+7) deal. So the main advantage of the deal is getting your first tuner cost down? Or is the $6.99/mo new to merger or something? Can I call after only being subscribed for a month at $12.99 on primary tuner and get $77 rate if I go to cancel?

If you use the special pricing 77 per year and then add the regular pricing for NavTraffic at 9.94 monthly you total $196.28.
With the regular pricing for NavTraffic and XMRadio together you pay 16.94 monthly to equal $203.28 total yearly...
Unless there is a deal on navtraffic or something-- I'll just stick with my current rate-- I like my NavTraffic.

Aha. So that would mean: $47.88 for navtraffic a year + $77 radio a year =~ $125 a year for both.
Nice, I'm gonna give them a call.

When I drove home, my XM wasn't activated. I called and the second CSR said they needed my credit card number and that the traffic service was indeed extra. I thought that it was too good to be true. She also said that a second year would be $149. We'll see next year!:shake:
Has anyone had their subscription expire and then try to renew it? I got the 3 month trial with my new car but they said it would cost extra to reactivate if the trial expired without renewing. I ended up forgetting and now I want to reactivate it, but I don't want to pay any activation fees. Are they flexible on that?
I ended up calling and getting the $77 deal without any activation fee even though my free trial expired a few days ago.
They also convinced me to get their standalone FM transmitting XM radio for $10, but at a monthly rate of $6.99 with a one year contract. I will use this in my old car. It's funny how $6.99 a month sounds so good, but when you calculate $83.88 a year it sounds like too much. Oh well...I can always find something that I want to listen to with XM, not so much with FM.

Purchase a long term package (more than a year) and they waive the fee. You can still cancel at anytime and get your pro-rated money back. However, I am not sure you would be able to get the $77 pricing and the free activation.

The trial for our new car was scheduled to end today. I've been receiving things in the mail to sign up for 1-3 years at zero or minimal discounts. We like the XM but it's not a must have feature so we were ok letting it expire. However, on Monday I got a call from XM and they offered me 3 months at $4.99/month. I talked to the lady for a bit and asked if they had anything better to offer. She said no, she could only offer the $4.99/mo for three months and then it will roll into whatever plan I pick. I took the offer and will call to cancel during the last week of the 3 months and hit them up for the $77 deal.

Anyone ever use a promo code with an XM customer service rep, only to be called back a few days later to be informed that they took the code in error and that your bascially S.O.L.? Someone posted something about that in another Slickdeals XM thread and I wanted to know if it happens a lot. I also got turned down for anything other than the standard rate this week. My $77 subscription runs out in a couple of days, I said I'd cancel then. I'll try again this weekend.
I also asked about the new pick 50 plan they are going to offer in November. Was told that they had no information on the new plans. So I e-mailed customer service, and I got the following reply:
"We have received your email concerning the XM pricing and we will be more than happy to advise you. Yes, XM subscribers will be able to take advantage of the a la carte pricing, however, you will need a new radio that are soon to be disclosed in order to receive the a la carte programming. With the merger you will be able to received a mix of both services using your existing equipment."
So those of us with in-dash radios have to buy a new radio for the discout pricing? They better offer something to the rest of us.

Third time today was the charm. I called 3 different XM Radio phone numbers today, finally got someone who, when I said I was going to cancel, transfered me to the Development Dept. Told that rep that it wasn't worth continuing at the full price, and she offered to continue my $77 subscription for another year, plus offered me the $12.95 credit for putting a credit card on file.
So next September will be another battle if the info is true about needing a new radio in order to get the new "a la carte" plans they will be offering in November.

I found it here (http://www.retailmenot.com/view/xmradio.com). The second number listed ( 1-800-967-2346 ) worked, but it got me to a menu with lots of choices, I think I selected the one something like "questions about recent changes to your billing". I was tempted to select the "cancel my subscription" option, but I wasn't sure if that would take me to a real person or just cut off my XM. Good luck!

Just a related note as I know this would be a deal breaker for me. One of XM's unique offerings was a punk rock station called Fungus. Starting today Fungus is off the air and replaced by AC/DC Radio.
So if you like punk rock, you might want to think things over before jumping on one of these good deals.
If you like AC/DC, jump in on one of these, you'll be in heaven!

I got it but I had to explain it logically to them. I asked them how long until mine expired (Feb '09) and then I said that i would prepay the difference for the regular rate now (4.04 each month) for the rmeainder of my subscription. What they came back with was a 3 month subscription for just the $4.04. If you tell them you will prepay it for the difference of the regular package, they will do it for you . Just reason with them.
