View Full Version : More Total Ignored Threads Amount?

I don't know how much of a large deal this would be for your server space however I would like to see a very large increase to the amount of threads you can ignore. The limit is only set to 300 and that can run out very quickly.
Is it possible to increase it for everyone? Or increase it to those who request it?
I find it a VERY valuble tool for these forums and would love to see the 300 increased.

After 100 reputation points your total amount will go up to 400.
I suggest going to your ignore list by clicking here (http://forums.slickdeals.net/profile.php?do=ignoredthreadslist) and unignoring some of the threads that have been locked or haven't been bumped in over a month.
I don't know what threads you are ignoring but 300 is alot imho.
Hope this helps

Is 400 the max or is there more for higher repped users? I would like to see well over 1000. It would be nice to have the limit set at around 2000.
I am already maxed out at my 300 threads in the first day. There are allot of threads that are one time entries or stuff I already have. It would make finding stuff so much better if there was a higher ignore count.
Maybe not many people would need it but it would make my life better. Maybe I could require a higher limit?

The ignored thread feature is supposed to be used to ignore threads that annoy you- not to ignore every thread.
This question has been asked before and since it hasn't gone up, I'd assume there's no plans for it to in the immediate future.
I know there was a post made by one of the admins about this but I can't find it. Something about server load or something. :dontknow:

:omg: wow, you used up 300 ignores already?
only thing i can suggest is do some housecleaning and clear out (by unignoring) threads that have become obsolete.

All 300 threads are current threads that are still active, that is way I ignored them. Most of them are 1 Entry sweepstakes that I have already entered.
It was just a suggestion. I would be willing to pay for a ignore thread increase. You know donate money for that increase.
If that is an option (pay for more) who could I talk to about it?

I do not believe it's an option, but the mods frequent this forum... if it were, they'd see your request.

I'm too lazy to search, but I asked this same question before and was told that there's a load on the server for each of the ignored posts, so that's why they have a relatively small (IMO) limit.
At that time, they had no plans to change it. Dunno how we make sure they see all of the "me too!!" requests for it.
Others have requested this specifically for the contest forum, so they can ignore the contests that they've already entered.
When the list gets full, it automatically removes the oldest thread from the list (IIRC, it's based on activity date, not the date you added it to the ignore list).
My ignore list is full all the time. I just looked at it, and the oldest thread in there is from the 18th. So I get a little more than a week's worth of stuff in there before I start seeing ignored posts popping back up in the forums again (so I have to re-ignore them ).

At least I am not the only one! I undertand that each ignored thread would take up some (very little harddrive server space). That is why they can't just give everyone a limit of 5,000 however I am making two different suggestions:
1. Make it so only people who request it get it. Limited base.
2. If it really is an issue with server space then make people pay or become a sponsor to up there ignore count.
There are WAY too many contests too keep up with (at least for me) I scan the pages all the time and see one's that I have missed. If I can ignore more then I would be better off. I am willing to pay!
Would starting a petition allow us to be heard better? I never really liked the idea of petitions but I guess they have there place?
I love this site since the day I found it. Yes I am new here and don't have nearly as much experience here then allot of people however I am an avid forum poster at other sites (I have been a mod many of placed). I don't see how this can be a bad thing... Slickdeals gets money and we get our increase :)
Thanks for your time!

It sort of sounds like you are using the ignore function to filter out threads you've already visited or are too old.
Consider that you have the option to filter the forums by Age of Post, and also the icons to the left (those envelopes, etc) will give you the status of a post as it pertains to you as well.
Also, unfortunately i do not believe we have the ability to increase the number of threads for a specific user (but rather only can do so for all the users).
And I dont think that we'll be turning sd to a pay site :) but if you feel like you need to give your money away i suppose i could take it off your hands.

With less than 100 rep points, you get fewer ignored threads. I thought there was another rep threshold where this increased too.
Doesn't the forum software have several different types of user groups who have different permissions (like more PM space)?
Can you use the age filter to remove threads where the OP is > x days old, or does it show you all threads with posts < x days old?
I don't see how the envelopes & other icons would help you track which threads you've viewed. I mean sure, after reading it, you can mark the forum as read. But then if someone else posts in that thread, it'll be unread again. Can you explain how this can be used to track read threads please? Thanks!

This is what I was afriad of (can't up count by user but by group).
However I did not know that you can filter by age. How would one do that? It filters old the threads that was created past a certain date, correct? Not by last post? If this is possible then there is no reason for such a thing as an increase of ignore threads if I can just filter them out.
Thanks for your time!

If you post in a thread, the pencil shows up on the envelopes, even if there are new posts. That can help you track. Other than that... :dontknow:

That's not a filter that is a sorter. The term filter means that you have the ability to filter out posts (for example posts older then 2 days are not to be shown). The things on the top just sort the threads.
If there is no real filter (and just a method to sort) then the only real solution is to post in all 1,975 threads in the contest forum. Which is not a big deal but I really wanted to get more rep points then post. By the end of the week I am going to have over 2,000 posts of "thanks" replies. No wonder when you go to a thread the first 3 pages are nothing but "thanks!" replies.

I know the difference between sort and filter. Forgive me for offering you an alternative solution. Second time in a few days someone has said that to me... Ungrateful bunch.

hmm I re-read my post and I still saw nothing that was ungrateful about it. However if I offended you I am truely sorry. It was not meant to be rude, ungrateful, mean, or disrespectful. Sorry if it came acrossed that way.

I know many users who frequent contests post a simple "thanks" in contest threads they have entered, so that they don't have to enter them again, and can later filter them since the thread icon (on the very left) is different from when you have not posted in a thread, providing a pretty reliable visual aid.
This may be an alternative solution for you, while the thread ignore limit remains steady.

This encourages people to pad their post count in a huge way with what are mostly useless posts. So that's probably hundreds of posts per day that add no value to SD.
Hopefully you guys are working on a better solution :)

I always used to make a post in every thread that I entered a contest, requested a freebie, or placed an order, just to see the pencil, to keep track of threads I had already participated in.
It IS a LOT of useless post's but I guess there is that one purpose, to keep track of participation and save time. :dontknow:
I guess whatever works, works.
 the..... go to first unread post feature.
