We would like to thank Miranda for starting up this CVS FAQ and General Information Thread.

The information has been transferred over to the wiki so that anybody can update right away in case there is a change in CVS policy that would require a change in the FAQ.

CVS FAQs:
Introduction:

What is CVS?
CVS/pharmacy is a pharmacy and convenience store chain . CVS is the largest pharmacy chain in the United States, with approximately 7,266 stores across 44 states.

How do I contact CVS?
Website: cvs.com (http://slickdeals.net/?sduid=204770&t=676935&u2=http://www.cvs.com/)
Phone number: 1-800-SHOP-CVS
Direct email form here (http://slickdeals.net/?&u2=https://www.cvs.com/CVSApp/help/email-customer-relations.jsp?callType=store&topicid=200018) [cvs.com (http://slickdeals.net/?&u2=https://www.cvs.com/CVSApp/help/email-customer-relations.jsp?callType=store&topicid=200018)]

What products are CVS brand?
Any item with a manufacturer code of 50428 is a CVS brand. This includes, but is not limited to: CVS brand, Essence of Beauty, Gold Emblem, RTH (Round the House), Fun in the Sun (summer), Blade, Skin Effects, Elin Lavar, PreVentin-AT, Just The Basics, and Merry Brite (holiday merchandise).

The Extra Care program and ECBs:
What is the Extra Care program and where do I get a card?
It is CVS's rewards program. Click here (https://www.cvs.com/CVSApp/user/extracare/extracare.jsp?extracaretab=extracareRewards) for CVS's official Extra Care FAQ. You can request a card online or ask for one from a cashier in the store. If you request one online it will take several days to arrive. Some stores have cards laying out on tables that you can freely take. In order to put your information on the card you will need to sign up online with the card number.

Isn't CVS really over-priced? How can shopping there ever be a slick deal?
Yes, CVS is over-priced on a lot of items. The key to making CVSing slick is to combine coupons and ECBs. If you do this successfully then after some initial OOP (out of pocket) expense you will be able to start buying some things you want and more toothpaste then you'll ever need for very little money.

What are ECBs?
ECBs = Extra Care Bucks. These are earned by purchasing certain products during a promotional period. Some promotions last a week and others last for the entire month. They will print on your receipt immediately after the necessary purchase is made. These can be used “like cash” on most items sold at CVS.
Be careful with your ECBs. If they are lost or destroyed CS may not be willing reset them and even if you do get lucky, they will come back as one large ECB (which can be difficult to roll). The register tape CVS uses can turn completely black if left in the heat, making your ECBs unusable.

What is rolling ECBs?
Rolling ECBs means using the ECBs you have already earned to buy items that will give you more ECBs. The purpose of this is to make sure you always have ECBs to spend at CVS so you will spend less “real” money OOP.

There's a promotion that says I need to buy $20 of xxx to earn an ECB, is that before or after coupons?
Before coupons.

Do I have to finish a promotion in one transaction?
Not usually. ECB deals "track" meaning you can break them up into more than one transaction. Just about the only types of purchases you have to complete at one time are the buy X get Y free deals. The price of Y will autodeduct from that transaction after both items have been purchased.

How do I use my ECBs?
ECBs cannot be used to pay for prescriptions, gift cards, tobacco products, alcohol, and stamps.

Are you sure I can't buy gift cards with my ECBs?
Attempting to trick the system into allowing you to buy gift cards is no longer possible in many stores and if you are successful the cashier could get in serious trouble. Do not ask about buying gift cards with ECBs. If your stores allows this then they can help you with the transaction. Because it is technically improper use of ECBs and this forum does not condone that type of behavior, you should not expect to find instructions here.

I let my ECBs expire, what can I do?
Customer service will not reset your expired ECBs. In my experience, the best thing to do is to ask every cashier you come across if they will accept expired ECBs. Expired ECBs will beep and have to be forced in so a supervisor card is required, you cannot just slip them in and have them go through.

How many ECBs can I use per transaction?
As many as you want. However, the register will usually stop accepting them if they will make your subtotal (pre-tax total) negative.

What are quarterly ECBs?
These are earned based on the amount you actually spent (OOP) at CVS and from prescriptions you've had filled. You will get back 2% of what you actually spent and a $1 ECB for every 2 prescriptions you have filled online or in store. This does not include the ECBs and coupons you use. If you get a gift card (or possibly stamps) your total amount spent in that quarter will decrease.
For example, if you spent:
00-24.99 dollars ............................. you get $0.00 in ECBs.
25-49.99 dollars ............................. you get $0.50 in ECBs.
50-74.99 dollars ............................. you get $1.00 in ECBs.
75-99.99 dollars ............................. you get $1.50 in ECBs.

The quarters run from Dec 16 to March 15, March 16 to June 15, June 16-Sep 15 and Sep 16 to Dec 15.
Your quarterly ECB will print on or after the first day of the month following the end of the quarter.

Can I use my ECBs on cvs.com?
You can only use your quarterly ECB online.

Can I use my ECBs on someone else's card?
No.

Can I have more than one card?
Technically no, you cannot have more than one card to your name with the same address. However, you can have a card for everyone in your household according to customer service. Some managers and other employees think this is wrong, so they may question you if use multiple cards at their stores.

For those with more than one card, what info do you put down to register them?
If you use/have multiple Extracare Cards, you do not have to register all of them. ExtraCare bucks will still accrue & you will still get CRTs.

Can I buy something for $4 and use a $5 ECB?
You can, but you would lose money. You have to use the full amount of the ECB because you will not get money back.

Coupons and Sales at CVS
What kinds of coupons can I use at CVS?
CVS accepts manufacturer coupons and CVS coupons. A few CVSs will take competitor coupons so ask at the store if you're interested in that. Many stores also accept competitor coupons at the pharmacy.
CVS coupons include:
-Regular store coupons: these look mostly the same as manufacturer coupons but usually have the CVS logo on them and the first number in the UPC is a 4. They can be mailed or found in stores.
-$/$$ coupons, such as $4 off a $20 purchase. These are often emailed but can also be mailed or found in stores. More information on emailed ones of these can also be found in the CVS Printable Coupon Thread. The minimum threshold for using the coupon is the pre-tax total.
-Printable coupons: These are usually specialty coupons that are emailed individually or combined with the $/$$ coupons. These can also be found in the CVS Printable Coupon Thread.
CRTs: Cash Register Tape. These print at the end of your receipt or from the red price checker/coupon center. No one has been able to figure out exactly what you have to do to get them or when they start printing. Generics (i.e. the ones everyone gets every day) generally reset on Sundays. Monday usually heralds a new batch of random CRT's for the week...everyone gets a different offering. Additional ones sometimes print later in the week as well. *Try scanning your card multiple times, this sometimes results in more coupons.*

Manufacturer coupons include:
-Newspaper insert coupons: (SS = Smart Source; RP = Red Plum, formerly known as Valassis; P&G = Proctor and Gamble)
-Internet coupons: often found at the manufacturer's website, also referred to as “printable” coupons
-Mailer coupons: often these come from signing up for freebies, coupons, and mailing lists
- Peelie: these are stuck to the product
- Tearpad: a pad of coupons found in stores
- Blinkies: SmartSource brand coupon dispensers (red with blinking lights) found in some stores
- Pamphlet: these are typically ads for a product but can contain coupons, they are found in stores, often near the product or on a table

How many coupons can I use per transaction?
You can use one manufacturer and one CVS coupon per item, plus 1 $/$$ q for the transaction. ECBs do not count as coupons; you can use as many as you want as long as the pre-tax total is positive.

Does CVS price match?
Some of the pharmacy sections do, but the rest of the store will not.

There's a B1G1 free sale can I use two manufacturer coupons?
CVS's coupon POLICY (link) (https://www.cvs.com/CVSApp/cvscontent/faq/couponpolicy.pdf) says you can use one MQ and one CVS q per item, with no mention of BOGO deals. However, their coupon FAQ (link (https://www.cvs.com/CVSApp/help/contact-us-faqs.jsp?type=store&topicid=200018)) says a coupon cannot be applied to a free item. YMMV on what your store will allow.

Why do some coupons beep?
Coupons beep for a variety of reasons.
-Coupons for free items (such as b1g1 free) usually beep for the price of the free item to be entered. Be careful when giving these, some cashiers will only scan them and not enter a price so nothing will come off your total.
-Coupons whose value exceeds the item's value will beep and need to be adjusted down to the value of the item. If you buy 3 99 cent items and use 3 $1 off coupons only the 3rd coupon will beep, it will need to be adjusted to 97 cents.
-Coupons beep if it does not match the item you purchased. Sometimes coupons are coded poorly and will beep for items that are not excluded by the wording. Some CVS's will push these through and some will not. Sometimes items that are excluded by the wording are not excluded by the bar code.
If you are interested in learning more about coupon codes, please see this site. (http://slickdeals.net/?sduid=204770&t=676935&u2=http://www.barcode-us.com/support_desk/coupon.htm)
-Coupons can also beep if they are over $10. These coupons require a supervisor to scan their card in order for them to be accepted.
-Coupons may beep because they are expired.

What is stacking?
Stacking usually means using multiple $/$$ coupons in one order. It is up to the individual stores, please do not call and complain if you are not allowed to stack coupons.
Some stores will allow you to multiple $/$$ coupons if the total is greater than or equal to the minimum requirements added together.
Some stores will only allow you to use one $/$$ coupon per transaction regardless of the total.

Is stacking wrong?
Different stores have different policies. Try to abide by whatever rules they set. If they are opposed to stacking then don't try to sneak coupons past employees. IMO, it's best not to use the same email $/$$ coupons more than once per store but some stores may be fine with that. Use your best judgment and what you know about the store's policies before you plan how many $/$$ coupons you intend to use.
Most likely (IMO), employee fraud with these is a bigger threat than customer fraud and I have heard employee fraud used as a reason why one store would not accept more than one $/$$ per transaction.

I paid mostly with coupons and ECBs, can I return the stuff I bought?
Yes, also, all CVS brand products and all cosmetics have a 100% satisfaction guarantee or your money back..
It will have to go as a return without a receipt and you will get the price of the item back on a money card (essentially a CVS gift card). However, frequent returns can make a coupon shopper look bad, especially if you're returning items that produced ECBs. Always check your receipt before you leave the store to make sure you got all the ECBs you expected. If it turns out you purchased the wrong item (the requirements can be very picky) then you can do the return and rebuy there so the cashier sees that you are not trying to cheat the system. Please do not return ECB-producing items. If you don't want the item then consider donating it or giving it to a friend or family member.
Remember to check expiration dates, many CVSs seem to leave items on shelves way too long.

Can I use coupons on clearance items?
This should be allowed. If the item has a price tag then a manufacturer coupon will beep but you should be able to have the cashier force it through. If the bar code is still scannable then the coupon should scan correctly.

If my coupon is worth more than the item can I get an overage?
It's CVS policy to adjust the coupon down to the item's price. Some employees are unaware that they can adjust coupons, so be aware that they could get confused.

CVSing and Slick Deals
There are a lot of CVS threads here, where I should I post?
Posts pertaining to a specific weekly deal should be posted in the weekly thread. The same goes for monthly deals. If you have something specific to a CVS coupon, please post in the CVS Coupon thread (http://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?sduid=674011&t=1930262). Just wanna chat? There's a thread for that too (http://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?sduid=674011&t=3309396)! Found a great clearance deal? Report it here (http://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?sduid=674011&t=2039728)! Discussion of the Beauty Club (http://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?t=2273723) goes here, and Advisor Panel Surveys here (http://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?sduid=674011&t=870120).

We do not tolerate fraud or trying to trick the system but we always happy to have new members join us. :grouphug:

What is the Wiki and where do I find it?
The Wiki post is a post that all members can update. In many threads this is the best place to find information. In the Deals threads this is the place to find the details of each CVS ad as they are posted and information on the relevant coupons. In the Printable coupon thread it is where to find a complete list of the available coupons.
The Wiki post is always the second post in a thread.
You can also add new information to the Wiki. Do not be afraid to contribute. Do not fear the Wiki. All revisions to it are automatically saved so it is impossible for you to completely eliminate any information that was already there. :)

Can I get help coming up with a deal?
You can ask, but keep in mind that other people are busy too, so don't assume that someone will be able to. If you are going to ask then please specify which coupons you have, any items you wants, items you won't buy.... The more information you give the better the advice will be.

I still have questions, where should I ask them?
If you still have any general CVS related questions please ask them in this thread. If they are related to specific weekly or monthly deal please use the appropriate thread. Please ask your question in only one thread, or start up a new thread using the question icon.

Other Information
Rolling Over ECB's for Dummies: -GarnierMoney
Everyone always wants to know just how we get all that we get every week for free. Extrabucks are a renewable resource. Which means, if used wisely, they will constantly provide you with what you need at little or no cost. Below is an EXAMPLE of rolling over ecb's. The items change depending on the week.

You have $10 in ECB's that are about to expire.

You purchase the following items;

6.00 - Mylanta
6.00 - Mylanta
6.00 - Mylanta
6.00 - Mylanta

Your total is about $24. You use the following Coupons.

-4/20 CVS Printable
-3 Mylanta (mylanta.com)
-3 Mylanta (mylanta.com)
-3 Mylanta (mylanta.com)
-3 Mylanta (mylanta.com)

Your total to pay is $8. You will receive back a $10 ecb bc the promotion that week was "buy $20 worth of Mylanta or Tylenol Get back $10".

You are now the owner of 4 bottles of pricey delicious Mylanta, and still have your same $10 ecb.

You then turn around and purchase the following;

20.00 - 20 Soy Joy Bars
2.99 - Colgate Toothpaste
2.99 - Colgate Toothpaste
.50 - Filler Item like travel tissues, 2 pencils, etc

Total is 26.50

Give the following coupons;

4/20
3/10 Soy Joy Bars (1/6 SS)
3/10 Soy Joy Bars (1/6 SS)
-1 Free Soy Joy Bar (1/6 SS)
-1 Free Soy Joy Bar (1/6 SS)
-1.50 Colgate Coupn (colgate.com)
-1.50 Colgate Coupn (colgate.com)
-1.50 Colgate Coupon (cvs coupon from diabetes book)
-CRT's that are applicable, if you have them.

Your new total is now $10. You pay it with the SAME $10 from your previous purchase. You will now earn $24.00! Bc that week there was a promo, buy a soy joy bar get back $1, and buy colgate toothpaste get back $2.00.

You have $24.00 in ECB's now. You turn around, and do yet ANOTHER deal... agian and again and again!

Enjoy.

If I have already reached the limit on a monthly deal, and it is advertised in the weekly ad again, can I buy it again and still get the ECBs?

No, you cannot. This is called a 'recycled' monthly deal, and all this means is that a deal from the monthly booklet is advertised in the weekly ad. The limits are not reset, therefore if it is limit 3 and you have already bought 3, you will not receive ECBs for more even though it is being advertised in the ad that week.

I've been to a CVS that has a SCO and read here that you can enter coupons but how? It doesn't come up with a message to enter coupons. Don't want to appear stupid but at what point do you enter your coupon codes? Does a message appear after you press your form of payment? If this was answered already can you direct me to the thread or post?

Coupons and SCO guide (http://forums.slickdeals.net/showpost.php?p=7995870&postcount=744) by CalItalian.
I haven't used a SCO, but I searched the SoCal CVS thread and came up with this. I hope it answers your question.

I think I need to add stuff about SCOs and probably about repping (how many people get to use, why people with under 50 posts should rep...).

Probably every question has been answered somewhere but no one should have to search through the large number of CVS threads that exist so if there's anything that isn't answered here or isn't answered clearly - please let me know (post, PM - either way). I want this to be as thorough as possible.

Who is the shift supervisor & what is their job? Just curious because every time I have trouble using coupons, it's usually a shift supervisor being mean about it. It's different than the manager right? Because I think I've seen the manager walking around the store smiling a few times, unless he's some other random guy that I mistook for the manager.

They (Shift Supervisors) are basically hourly members of management. Some full-time, some part-time--both of which are allowed to run a shift and make most managerial decisions. They are basically "mini-managers". Depending on their level of experience, etc. they may have ALL managerial capabilities or they may be more like a head cashier. All depends on the store and person themselves. Does that help?

Ah, thanks. I think it may just be coincidence that the shift supervisors I've come across aren't coupon friendly. Come to think of it, there is also a pharmacy person working the register who isn't very coupon friendly either. It probably has nothing to do w/ being a shift supervisor.

LOL, says I need to spread some rep before repping you again!

Maybe the SSs are trying to work their way up and think being tough on coupons is the way to do that. In my area it seems like the manager's attitude rubs off on most of the employees (but some people are just jerks anyway).

Sometimes it's because they don't understand how coupons and the Extra program work. Pretty much anyone who made it through the FAQ probably knows more about both than many CVS employees (I'm not saying this to insult them, coupon users are a tiny percentage of their customers, it's more to try to explain why they can get confused or frustrated with us).

Yeah come to think of it, it probably has more to do with personality. The worst cashier I've ever encountered was at our post office, and of course there are no coupons there. She just wanted to bully people! Boy, the stories I could tell about her. But off topic. I think some cashiers just use coupons as an excuse to be mean to people :(

So lonely in this thread! I think the action must be in the weekly deals thread

can somebody tell me how MIR's work with my very low OOP CVS receipts? Do I only get a rebate back for the amount I paid OOP or for the actualy cost of the item purchased?

That one is YMMV. Some people black out the total paid and the coupons from their receipts but people have also reported getting their rebates when they did not black out anything. Sometimes they don't come no matter how you do it. It's basically a 41 cent gamble.

I think all you can do is get another card. It sucks, but I haven't come across any other options. It means you'll be starting all over with the CRTs and your ECBs will beep. You'll have to explain to the cashiers why they need to be forced in. You can call CS and see if they will reissue the ones you have, but I don't know if they will, they'll probably just tell you to use your phone number.
One option (I have not tried this) would be to give the phone number attached to your card first, then use your CRTs and ECBs, then have your new card scanned and finish up the transaction. Based on what's happened to others when they've accidentally used different cards in the same transaction, your ECBs should print for the new card.

I wish there was a better solution and if anyone knows one I hope they will post it. :please:
Bf lost one of his and CS told him just to use the phone number, so now he can't scan anything for CRTs and he doesn't want to bother with the idea I mentioned for switching it.

It's funny that Boots is a CVS brand because it's not. It's actually a pharmacy chain, like CVS, in the UK.

Hopefully you registered the card. Then, you can at least use up the ECBs associated with the card. Tell the cashier your phone number and it will bring up your account. I would suggest that you buy stuff you've been wanting so that you can use the ECBs...then get a new card and start all over again.

call cs and they may be able to do something. i called one time to ask what happened if i did. they said they'd switch everything from my lost card to a new card.

I left a CVS in a hurry today after dealing with an annoying employee who was hassling me about the battery coupon.

Unfortinuately, it wasn't until after I left that I realized she never gave me my receipt, and it should have had a $5 energizer ECB attached.

Can I get this back? I'm sure if i go back to the store, that she's not going to be very helpful (and it's a 20 minute drive from my house). What other options do I have?

Can customer care regenerate? Are they available online somewhere (I logged in, but don't see anywhere that shows my current ECB's)?

Thanks

miranda

They aren't available online any more (except maybe the quarterly ones). You'll have to call and see what they can do. It's possible for them to give you the number on the ECB then you tell a cashier to enter the number and it will work that way or they may force it to reprint since technically the cashier just kept your receipt. If the employee was really that bad then you might want to make the call a complaint. As long as you were only using one printable battery q and 1 man. q per item there's no reason you should have been hassled at all.
CS is inconsistent. You may have to call a couple times to find someone who knows how to help with the ECB. Remember that you'll have to wait 48 before they will be able to see that you made the required purchase. :) HTH

Hi, i am new here and i have a stupid question. Do the printable coupons in the coupons thread have to be in color? or would my black and white printer do the work just fine?

thanks

by the way, this FAQ is very thorough, thanks for the effort.

black and white is normally just fine, and most of the coupons even say so.

However, one store near me has asked that I print in color. I have ignored the request without any repercussions thus far.

No stupid questions, we are happy to help.

In our case the transactions are smoother when we print in color especially when there are many coupons. It is probably just physiological on the clerks' part as the coupons look more "authentic."

So we print all ours in color since it is only marginally more expensive.

One kid supervisor told me he couldn't take one of mine because he got in trouble for taking copied coupons. I explained that I don't copy coupons and they say you can print them in B&W. He took them then and has continued to take them.
Sometimes if the employees are concerned all you have to do is explain that you know copying coupons is wrong and you don't do things that are wrong. You could also point out that there are color copiers. :teehee:

and I agree, it's not a stupid question! this thread is the safest thread to ask any CVS questions. And I am completely sure that any question that gets asked is something that other people are wondering about too. :)

:) HTH

Thanks Miranda,

That helped a lot. I did only use one battery coupon during that transaction. I'll give them a call later today and see what happens (of course, i did it 6 different times that day at different stores, and I did receive a $5 coupon later in the evening for the second ECB, but hey...) :-)

you deserve both of them :)

you could go to cvs.com and search the stores to find the ID # for the store where you had the problem, that might help CS look it up your receipt. They can do it themselves, but it might make it easier. :dontknow:
Please let us know how it goes. god luck!

Hi,

I have a question about returning something that I bought on Black Friday. I bought one razor thinking it was the free one after ECB and I didn't get the extra bucks for it since it was the wrong one. I bought all the free stuff that day and used a lot of ECBs and the coupons that were available then.

If I go to return this item, would it be a problem? I have read in other threads to do return without receipt but I am uncomfortable with that since we need to give drivers licence and I don't want to be labelled a serial returner. I want to go with the receipt, but, how would it be handled? Some people are posting that we will get money card and some are saying that we will get only OOP. I'm confused as to how to return this stuff. I have 4 other items also that need to be returned but again for the same reason that I my OOP was low, I've been stuck with them..

Thanks.

What you do is up up to you.

If I paid little to nothing OOP I would "give it away now".
I too don't wan't to be a serial returner, I am all ready a serial buyer :)

from the list: It will have to go as a return without a receipt and you will get the price of the item back on a money card (essentially a CVS gift card).

Just take the receipt in with you and explain why you are doing the return.
You may have to explain to the cashier that you are supposed to get the credit back on a money card, but they should be able to handle it. It will probably need to be done as a return without a receipt but, IMO, it's nice to have it there with you so they know you bought it at CVS. If you're worried about how it will look then explain exactly why you are doing the return and hope they understand that you aren't trying to get around the system.
edit: if I don't catch the lack of ECBs immediately I just keep the stuff, but if it's important to you to get the credit back, then try the return.

thanks miranda and tornadoredcabby. I'll take the receipt and see what they have to say. If they make it a big deal, I'll probably just keep it. One other stuff that I needed to exchange was vitamins, so hopefully I'll be able to exchange atleast..

Pardon for this noob question. I tried to do a search but nothing came out specifically. Maybe my search-fu is weak. I lost my two receipts with $5 ECB's on each of them. What can I do? Can I get a copy somewhere?

I went online to review my account. On my Current Extracare Balances, it says:

Description........................Point Balance................End Date
Winter 2008 Spending ............18.55 ....................3/16/2008

Is the point balance my ECB's?

No, the point balance is not your ECBs.

If you know about what date you bought the items and got your ecb, and what it was for, you can try calling customer service and ask for their assistance. Be sure to wait 48 hours after your purchase. Explain what happened, and they MAY be able to give you the code from the ecb. You would then ask the cashier to key in the code and you'd get the $5 ecb. I know this worked for one person once, but it was also a BIG ecb (like $50) and they were a long time shopper. So it is possible they'll tell you no with the amount being so low, and if you're new. But it doesn't hurt to ask.

Am I able to redeem what's listed in "fall 2007 spending"? if so, how do i get it? or is that already expired.

Thanks!

you earn 2 percent on your Quarterly spending. If you used th triple bucks code when it was active, then you would have gotten 6 percent of your spending from the point you used the code until the end of the quarter. So if you make a purchase (or even a pack of gun) on the 1st, you should get a Quarterly extra buck reward on the end of your receipt. HTH

I have a question about coupon use for B1G1F items. When CVS has a B1G1F sale can I only use a manufacturer's coupon on the one item I'm paying for?

Sorry if that's a dumb question. I would assume that's the way it works but they've surprised me before with some of their liberal coupon policies. :)

it's kind of answered in the first post, but I guess I need to make that question less specific since it only deals with bogo q's and bogo sales. oops :)

it's 1 man. q per item, you're still buying 2 for a bogo sale so you can use 2 q's.
ex: for the nature's bounty deal this week: buy 2 Vit C's for $3.79 each, sale takes off one and use 2 $2 q's for neg. oop (buy other items to fix that) and get your $3 ECB.

Some cashiers don't know that this is CVS's policy, so you may get hassled from time to time, but it is their policy to take them.

January has some items that are packaged together - actually a wrap around two of them. In this case, I am expecting CVS will only accept one coupon on the two. If they take two coupons on the one package, I will be very surprised, even with their liberal coupon policies.

miranda

true, 1 UPC typically equals 1 item. I didn't think about those. But as long as you're actually buying 2 separate items, even if one is free, you should get to use 2 coupons.

it should be, but I think one of our regulars, who is also an employee, said that many stores didn't get them in time so they won't be available until next week.
I haven't seen one in store yet. :( But hopefully soon. They're usually next to the weekly ads when they have them out.

Not if they are the same coupon. But if you have two of them (I think I currently have 3 $5/15) with different codes, most CVS stores will allow you to use all of them in one transaction. (At least, that has been my experience.)

Okay, could someone walk me through redeeming a raincheck?

They were out of the Nature's Bounty I needed. ($4 in gas down the drain, because I didn't ask for a raincheck the first time and went back again today to see they were still OOS, grrr) I asked for 6 bottles on the raincheck. I said I wanted 3 rainchecks for 2 bottles each in case I wanted to break up the order but the guy said I can come back and ask for any amount up to 6, and the raincheck is reusable. :dontknow: I also asked that he write $3 ECB on there but he said I can't get the ECB, which I was sure was wrong :( so he asked the shift supervisor, who looked at me for awhile (hmm...is the response different depending on the customer?) and then told him to tell me to bring the weekly ad back with the raincheck and I'll get the ECB :dontknow:

So here's the deal I wanted to do:
4 bottles of Nature's Bounty at 15.99 each = 63.96
12 bars of Soyjoy at $1 each = 12
Total 75.96
- 31.98 (BOGO on the vitamins)
- $15 off $75 (expires tomorrow, will they honor this Q when they vitamins come in stock?)
- $8 (4 Nature's Bounty coupons)
- $3 (Soyjoy coupons)
= 17.98 which I'll pay $15 or so with ECBs

Okay, now the raincheck makes it impossible to fly under the radar here... so I want to know the path of least resistance. How does this get rung up, since the sale will be over when they FINALLY get them in stock? Are the BOGO rung up separate as a store discount, or do they just scan 2 bottles and give me the other 2 (which messes up my wanting to use a $15 off $75)?

Wow, I think you'll likely have trouble here. I doubt they'll let you use the 15/75 q once it has expired, unless it's a store that takes expireds and it scans through fine. Good luck.

if they take expired printables then they should be fine with it, but otherwise I doubt they'll let you use it.
my stores always seem to want the RC first, so you probably won't have credit for the free vitamins towards the 15 off q.

I've never had any luck getting someone to list the ECBs on the RC. Maybe if you bring in a copy of the ad when you redeem it that will work, especially since that was suggested. I'm not sure.
They can adjust the RC as you buy stuff. If it starts at 6 they can change it to 4 after you buy 2 or issue you one for 4 if they keep it. I haven't had it done so I'm not exactly sure, but I know they can adjust it somehow.

there are going to be more soy joy q's in some papers on Sunday, so at least you may be able to do better with that - I got a $3 off 10 and a free bar q (not bogo, just plain free). So if you get those and only get one paper you can save $4 instead of $3.
sorry it seems like a lot of bad news

Glad to have you all CVS-ing with us. Please don't take this as bashing.

And just a thought-If you are new to CVS-Please..Please be vague about your coupons-I was at the Trabuco/Alicia Store in Mission Viejo CA this morning and a woman was buying some Christmas-she was telling the cashier-in a rather loud voice-about the website that helps you find all these hidden CVS coupons. Yikes-my son and I thought-oh no a Slick Dealer newbie. I'm sure she meant no harm-I usually just tell the cashiers that I get them on the CVS website-which is true without revealing Slick Deals.

I have seen no crackdown on stacking in the South Orange Count area. We have made 6 trips (to 4 different stores) in the last 2 days and everyone has been very nice.

Yeah, my stores have tried to tell me that - especially when I have ALOT of coupons. I think the key is in just making sure your item count is equal to, or greater than, your cvs coupons. And then to remember all that are included in cvs coupons. Sometimes I forget about the $2 Lumene printable q's being from cvs.

I dont think there is a limit either. I once stacked all the current $/$$ (when we had a bunch once) and used over 20 manu coups in one transaction and it went through just fine. Im sure the cashier was either misinformed or just irked about so many coups.

That is a manufacturer's coupon. In this example it would mean this coupon is good for $5 off the item mentioned and can be found in the Proctor & Gamble insert that was in the 12/30/07 Sunday newspaper. The coupon expires 01/31/08.

So most things with green text in the wiki will point out to manufacturer's coupon. Please do note that we are still trying to find a color that everyone can agree on (it used to be blue) so be aware of changes in future weeks.

yes, you're in it:

Manufacturer coupons include:
-Newspaper insert coupons: (SS = Smart Source, VAL = Valassis, P&G = Proctor and Gamble)

When you have a specific question trying hitting ctrl + f, then type in a search term (like "proctor" in this case).

The what kinds of coupons can I use at CVS question has a variety of other explanations about what the coupon information found in the Wiki posts means. Although not everyone seems to be following the former method, most of the information should still help with understanding where you can find the coupons.

I've been CVSing for about 8 months now, but today was the first I split up my purchases into several transactions to take full advantage of the coupons I had. After I got home, I notice I didn't receive all the ECBs I should have. The totals at the bottom of my receipt were off, even though I had actually purchased more items. I rememeber reading somewhere in one of the forums that you shouldn't do your transactions back to back because the computer system needs time to catch up with your purchases. The cashier I had didn't want to let me go back to the end of the line, so 5 transactions were back to back.
My question is "How do I get my ECBS? Will they print out the next time I make a purchase or do I have to call customer care to get them?"

You do need time for the transactions to catch up with the main computer system. This is why most people recommend at LEAST one hour (and often as many as FOUR hours) between transactions, if you are going to be buying items that are part of the same ECB deal.

If you had gone to the back of the line, you would of encountered the same problem anyways due to what I mentioned in the first paragraph.

You will need to call 1-800-SHOP-CVS and explain to CS that your ECB didn't print out but you did buy the correct items. It will take 48 hours for CS to see your receipt -- so you may need to wait until Tuesday to do so.

Next time, please allow 1 to 4 hours between transactions so that you do not encounter this problem again.

miranda
01-13-2008, 01:09 AM
You can also just email to get the ECBs, they can force them to print that way and you won't have to wait around on hold. It may take a little longer, but emailing has always worked for me. send email (http://www.cvs.com/CVSApp/cvs/gateway/help/helpContact#email)
But the character limit is strict.

It seems to depend on the districts. I can wait less than half an hour and be fine if the store is part of the same district, but then they won't print if I wait over 2 hours and the store is in a different district.

Whenever possible, complete each deal in a transaction if you need to do them all at once. It is frustrating when you have to contact CS to get them. Like slayers said, it takes 48 hours for them to be able to see your receipt, and typically another 48 for them to be ready to print (either at a coupon printer or at the register when you buy something).
They should know to give you a money card at the store since they can see that you bought everything. You should try to handle it at the store whenever possible, but sometimes trying to explain the situation seems impossible with certain supervisors.

The totals will eventually show up on your receipt, but the ECBs will not print on their own.

I'm going to do my first ECB related visit to CVS today, and hopefully they'll have the breeze 2 meter coupons at the pharmacy. I have been CVS'ing for the past "summer" and "fall" savings' period. I hate to admit it, but I don't know how to get my quarterly ECB's?? I have looked at the end of my receipts, but I do not see where they give me my end of quarter ECB. How do I redeem them? Can someone please explain? Do I need to call corporate or something? Is there something I need to activate online? I jsut dont get it. (argghhh, I am still classified as a newbie.) lol!!!

I think I lost a Money Card last night in a CVS store. At least, I know I lost it, I think it happened at the store. Is there a way to get it cancelled & replaced?

Sorry, didn't see anything on this in the FAQs.

Generally speaking, if you qualified for a quarterly ECB, it would have printed on the bottom of your receipt. It has a different header (just slightly). You could also call CVS to find out how much yours was for, and if/when you got it.

Unless you know the card number of your money card, I doubt you can have it cancelled and replaced. If you've used it before, and can tell them on what transaction, they might be able to find the card number for you.

I would definitely CALL your store and ask if they found it, first.

Thanks! I think they would have a record, because it was a refund they did just last night and I still have the refund slip that was issued with it.

If it was a long time ago I think you're right, calling first would be a better idea, but since it was only issued just last night and it was in their store, I think maybe in this specific case it might actually work better if I went in. They are usually pretty quiet Sunday evenings, too.

I'll call this afternoon to ask if they found the card, and if they didn't, I'll go in later with the refund slip so they have the details in front of them, and ask if they can still cancel it and replace it.

Thanks for the help!

it was, it used to be:
red = manufacturer coupon
blue = CVS coupon
green = mail in form (rebates...)

hopefully whoever is working on the Wiki's now will pick a format and stick with it.

you should still be able to check that online. Sometimes they just don't seem to print on their own -- my bf's have failed to print a few times. I didn't get one this time, but I didn't qualify for one, but if you spent enough (spending list is in the first post) and can't find yours - take smomma's advice and call.

Thanks! I think they would have a record, because it was a refund they did just last night and I still have the refund slip that was issued with it.

hopefully you get it back, with that much info it seems like they should be able to cancel and reset it :)
After you get it straightened out, could you please post about the results? I think it would make a good additional bit of information.

Ok, so i did a circuit run at 3 CVS's tonight. I am curious about one trip. After I gave my 5 mfr cpns, a 15/75, a 10/50, the Breeze $50 cpn, one of my ECB's, the register beeped and would no longer accept any more coupons. The total was at $22. What went wrong? My before coupon total was around $100 or so. i didnt complain, I just paid it and left. I know better. (and yes, if it matters when you think about your answer, I got the overage on the meter).

So is there a limit on the # of coupons you can use??? B/c they would not/could not accept anymore of mine, not even one of my EB's. ??

Um, in that trip, I had if I recall correctly, about 10 items. I think 5 of them had mfr coupons. I used a CVS store Colgate cpn, a CVS store Breeze II coupon, a 15/75 coupon, a 10/50 coupon, a 5/30 coupon, then it stopped accepting any after that I think. I asked what the register said and she said that it said exceeded coupon limit. ?

I can get my rcpt tomorrow and give you more details. This is all from my really poor memory. Does it help at all?

I don't think it matters which color is which as long as people agree on one standard. Red for CVS certainly makes sense.

I can't think of a reason why that would happen. Sometimes there's a seemingly random error that won't allow anything else in, it happened to me once.
There is a limit on the # of coupons, but since you had 10 items and 5 CVS coupons, you should have been fine, plus there should be no limit at all on the ECBs. odd.

Ok, do you remember which coupon, exactly, you attempted to give them when you got the 'exceeded coupon limit'? Was it a manu coupon or a CVS $/$$ q? Is it possible, if a manu q, that it was one of the ones that are 'iffy', ie not for the exact size item you were buying? If it was a $/$$q from CVS, how many times had you used that same q on that card?

I have had this type of message come up when using manu coupons before at CVS. After trying one, and it not working, I gave them others and they work, then we tried the 'problem' coupon and lo and behold, it worked. It's been awhile since this came up though.

back when cvs had the battery thing going i got like 10 or something ridiculous like that and then when my husband (in line behind me) went to buy his 10 or more packs of batteries at some point toward the end the register gave the same error of "coupon limit exceeded". a manager had to come clear it out and then she finished the rest of the batteries transaction. we thought it meant that that particular register had scanned too many coupons (20 or more) and it beeped for manager approval in case something was malfunctioning or shady. so maybe the person right before you also used a bunch of coupons and then your transaction quit allowing them?

good luck figuring it out. cvs always throws me a curveball i wasn't aware of. it keeps me on my toes. but everytime i go there with coupons something unexpected and unprecedented occurs lol

i'm curious as to where exactly on the cvs website these coupons are.

i tried going to cvs.com last week to print them instead of having to page through the confusing threads here to look for different pdfs and instructions... but i never found any.

is it because they're all emailed to us and there aren't any actually on the cvs site? or am i just that stupid and couldn't find coupons on their website?

But when i use ECB to pay for a purchase that will give me ECBs will i still get them?

another thing, my account just had a coupon that says "extracare coupon" $2.00 extra bucks.
is this just a $2 off any purchase coupon?

Yes, if you use ECBs to pay for an item, you will get the ECBs that are due to you on the items you are purchasing. And you must have earned ECBs on something you purchased, for you to get a $2 ECB on your receipt - you can use it like cash to purchase anything in the store except gift cards, alcohol (in some places), cigarettes.. what else am I missing?

I have been CVSing for some time now, but am always conservative with my use of $/$ coupons. When using a $/$$ CVS coupon, does that total include tax? For example, if my purchases total 28.38 before tax, but 30.56 after tax, could I use a $5/30 coupon?
TIA!

Hmm...I'm a little confused. My cashier will ring my items, ring my card, and then tells me a total (which includes tax, because at this point many people would hand over their credit card or cash). I then hand my cashier a CVS coupon for $/$$, then my manufacturers, then my ecbs. So, at the point my cashier tells me a total, if that total is $30.12, let's say, can I hand her a $5 off of $30? Or, would it be no, because my pre-tax total was under $30?

Thanks

Officially according to CVS guidelines and the way their registers are programmed, you would need $30 in ACTUAL product $$ value. So your total, to use the 5/30 should be $30 PLUS tax.

I agree, I just did my first CVS deal yesterday and the purchase was $19.98,..but the cashier hit total and with tax it was over $20. I gave the cashier my $4 off $20 coupon and he took it and everything went through ok.

I have 2 questions (since I am a newbie)....
I noticed my CVS extra bucks say "limit one per customer" at the bottom. Has anyone had any problems getting them to take multiple extra bucks? I am just concerned because my CVS is pretty harsh on the rules (i.e. can't use 2 manufacturer coupons on B1G1 Free sales, and I couldn't price adjust my diabetic monitor coupon down from $50 to $9.99,etc)

Also this may sound silly...but can I detach the extra bucks from my receipt or do I need to keep them with my receipt for redemption (to proove I didn't return the items)?

Thanks!

I have used multiple ECBs in a transaction before with no problem, as I think almost everyone here has. And yes, you can detach your ECBs. I have a file folder/coupon holder that I put mine in with my card. :) I keep them in order of expiration date, so I can use the oldest ones first.

Yes, I use multiple ECBs almost every time. I've never had the register beep for using too many ECB's. (It might happen, just hasn't to me yet - -hopefully never)

I keep my ECB's paper clipped to the inside of my large wallet with the ones closest to expiration at the top (as stated by OP). I usually work the deals out to the dollar so I know ahead of time what I will need to use, but sometimes my plans don't work for various reasons and I have to wing it. This way I always have them with me.

Have fun! I always leave CVS with a smile on my face.

yesterday my friend lost his 19 dollars in ECBs so after trying to find them for 5 minutes the cashier let me use my ECBs to pay for his stuff. all they have to do is scan the other card and then the ECBs that go along with it.

of course what we didn't realize was that all the products my friend bought that gave him ECBs back printed out attached to MY cvs card so then he couldn't use them later.

but some cashiers might allow you to scan the first card again a second time so that when the receipt prints, the bucks all go to the original purchaser. i've seen that done in line in front of me.

Okay, I read through all of the posts here and I thought I could infer this from the comment about don't lose your ECBs or if they can give them back they will be one giant ECB, but here goes:

If I do a transaction where more than 1 thing is going to give me back ECBs, let's say the M&Ms for $3EB and the Speed Stick for $3.99EB, will I get 1 EB printout for 6.99 or 2 separate for 3 and 3.99?

You will get one ECB for the M&M purchase and one ECB for the Speed Stick purchase. If you buy 2 Speed Sticks, it's still only one ECB for the Speed Stick purchase - it will just have the correct total on it $3.99 x 2 = $7.98 ECB. :)

I have added a section for abbreviations and acronyms to the bottom of the wiki. Feel free to add in there for now.

Of course all of us are in charge if we find something that could be useful. Use the wiki to add any info that could be helpful.

any $/$$ that is used together is stacking. doesn't matter if it's a crt or printable. if your store accepts it, then it's fine

This really depends on what you're buying and what your clerk will allow.

Cashiers at CVS are taught to ask for your card first. The advantage to that? You can see each item ring up at the correct sale price. Also, many of the CVS coupons require you to use your card in order to redeem them.

Those that say to give your card last are likely trying to 'trick' the system into giving them a better deal than was intended. I'm not saying this is entirely wrong, but if you keep reading along, you'll better understand this.

The biggest negative to giving your card last is that it makes it very difficult to see what price each item rings up at, as the savings show up in a lump on the screen.

No, but she can use your card. This answer is also covered in the FAQ. (http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=151847&t=676935)

where are the diabetes monitor 9.99 coupon deal at cvs? Thanks. I scanned a lot of posts, but am confused.

The $9.99 diabetes montior is for the Breeze2 meter. They should be located where all of the diabetes meters and other diabetes items are located. The actual aisle and location varies from store to store, but generally should be close to the pharmacy.

The Breeze2 meter gives out an ECB of $9.99, making the meter free after ECB. You are allowed a limit of 5 per card.

This is a January monthly deal and people have been making $9.99 by using either the CVS $50 off coupon in the diabetes book, or the $30 manufacturer coupon found in some SS inserts back on October 7th.

The CVS coupon is YMMV - as many stores are not adjusting the coupon to match the price of the meter.

The manufacturer's coupon -- more stores are adjusting this down from $30 to $9.99 as CVS policy is to adjust a manufacturer's coupon down to the retail price when the manufacturer's coupon exceeds the price of the actual item.

The reason why the CVS coupon is more YMMV -- is because it is CVS eating the price of the meter when you use their coupon (well at least that is what some stores tell me), and the manufacturer eating the price of the meter when you use their manufacturer's coupon.

If I buy all those ECB generating products online, and I enter my CVS card. Will I get the ECBs? If so, does the ECBs come in the mail or do I have to go to the store?

You will not get any ECB's for buying the ECB generating products online. :sadwalk:

This why many of us are :ranting: when the our CVS store goes OOS (Out of Stock) on a certain particular ECB item.

Sorry I have 1 question as I have been reading for awhile and just signed up for my card this week.

Is the sole purpose of the card
1. lets you earn the ECB's and get special prices
2. ECB's print out on register tape and this is what you give next time you buy something

At first when I was reading this, I thought they scanned your card and put your ECB's on the card and next time they would scan the card like a credit card.

I hope I didn't confuse anyone.

Yes, you're right - the ECBs print out directly on your register tape. You have to cut them off, and then give them back to be able to use them - they are like a paper coupon. And you have to keep them matched to your card. If you get a second card for a spouse, etc, you cannot use your ECBs from your first card on your second card. Keep them seperate.. :) The main trick is to use the ECBs to buy stuff that will earn you more ECBs, and then keep them rolling.

Its 1 and 2. :bounce: ECBs are coupons that print at the end of your receipt. You save them, and use them on your next trip with printable and manufactor coupons (or at least I do)

And can you get them at the price scanner/coupon thing or only at the register?

No, your ECB won't cover tax, unfortunately.. you'll have to get a couple of candy bars or something to bump your total into positive.

I haven't read this entire thread, but I did this last night--scanned one card and used one ECB, scanned second card and used one ECB. Then I scanned the first card again and used another ECB for that card--it all worked fine. The clerk was confused, but I told him it was an experiment! The card info that printed out on the receipt was for the card which was scanned first and last.

Actually, I'm trying to find out if anyone has received the code for adding the triple points to the in-store purchases yet. Only have the one for online. The one for in-store usually follows a few days later. Please PM me the code if it's out there.

The triple points for in-store will probably be released around February 15th. CVS has been releasing that coupon about 1 month before the end of the "quarter" to earn the quarterly ECB bonus for about a year now.

So, theres a store in Cajun Country that has something scandalous going down. Last month, I was next to another employee who was checking out. She had cards for all of the employees there in this huge binder with baseball card sleeves. I know because they were all labeled with names, and 3 of the names were for people working the registers, and she was talking to them like she worked there. Ya know. Anyway, she would do the deals on each card, and at the end of the transaction, she would see what her OOP was, scan whatever card matched the closest EB, and then scan the first card to get the right EBs. :jawdrop: When corporate figures out whats going on, heads will

Question for CVS experts:

What happens if I bought an item that costs $10 and it generates 2 ECB but then the wife changes her mind and doesn't want it. Can I return it?? Will it only give me $8 back on a money card (which I'm totally okay with) or will it give me $10 back?

TIA

I would take it back along with the receipt/ECBs and just ask. I've seen different ways that different stores handle returns on items with ECBs, so it's difficult to tell you for sure what they will do. Did you pay very little out of pocket for your total transaction..? If so, there are many stores that will only reimburse you the total that you spent out of pocket. For instance, I had a transaction yesterday where my total was $1.81 out of pocket cost. If I returned any item from that transaction with my receipt, all I would get back would be $1.81 no matter the cost of the item. So for that reason alone, I just don't return items, LoL.

RedPlum (RP) is Valassis(V). :)

:secret: If you look at the small wording on the binder of the front page of the RedPlum insert, you will still see it says Valassis!

So remember that V=RP and RP=V :)

Can someone please advise me on something, I am just starting out with the CVS thing.

I purchased the 2 Advil, 2 Robitussin deal this week that was supposed to come with $10 in ECB for $20 purchase of that stuff. With coupons the OOP was around $6.30, but the ECBs did not print.

I made the purchase on 2/2, which was the last day of the deal according to this post (http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=198340&t=723740).

Do I have any recourse, in store or on the phone with CS?

You can call customer service and give them the transaction information off your receipt. They can look at your transaction and confirm that you bought the correct products, amount, etc. Once confirmed, they can set it up for an ecb to print 48 hours later. HTH!

CVS has become my new favorite place this year. I feel I am doing well mostly because I have read EVERYTHING on SD with the word CVS in it. I have been looking for an answer about rainchecks and can't find any. My 3 CVS stores are always out of everything! Tonight no eyeshadow, no Garnier Fructice, not a Boost single even in stock (2 CVS employees had not even heard of them), no nothing I wanted. I finally told the shift supervisor they were out of the eyeshadow and asked what I should do. She was so nice and wrote me a raincheck for the eyeshadow. I asked her what the protocol was to get the ECB's if the items were not in stock until after the promotion. She had written on the raincheck the price and the ECB's I was supposed to get and said some managers would give me a cash card but she would just ring the item up for free. It tickes me off that all of the good stuff is always gone. My stores don't print early and I can usually get out shopping sometime Sunday but I can't keep checking the stores for items or I would spend my whole week there. I only asked for a raincheck for the eyeshadow but should I have given her my laundry list of things they didn't have?

Also while I have your attention. I have gotten 2 cash cards from returns and am expecting another one from one of the deals I did a few weeks ago. I paid with one tonight and thought "Is there any reason I should be hanging on to this?" I didn't have enough ECB's to cover the end total and I didn't feel like paying cash. Other than the fact that they don't seem to expire am I missing something? Or was it a smart way to keep my OOP down?

Confusing...but still fun! Even though I have read everything I have no idea the correct place to post this.

Yes, items being OOS is a very real and irritating problem. I would suggest you go back and talk with a manager/shift supervisor about the problem of OOS items. Have the ad in hand, explain what you shared with us in your first paragraph and ask what they suggest you do to get what you need there. Make sure to get rainchecks, and have them note the ecbs due on the raincheck.

On the issue of a cash card, I try to use my gift cards at the end of my transaction, when I have less $$ left than my smallest ecb. One note to that, I've found, is their gift cards seem to only have enough magnetic power to swipe through the 'swiper' about 5 times, successfully. After that, once it stops swiping successfully, the cashier has to key in the gift card number from the back of it. When your total is very small, ie 58 cents, it can be embarrassing to have a long line behind you and the cashier having to key in all those numbers. So once my gift cards lose their magnetic power, I tend to only use them if there is no line behind me, or for my prescriptions.

HTH!

regarding out of stock items.. sometimes if the items are NEW (like the weatherproof frizz ease this week or the garnier strength and shine this week) then the store may not even have gotten it in yet. the ads are printed 10 weeks in advance as per one of the managers. so while they THOUGHT they'll have this item by now, they don't. or they have like 2 peices. That explains the NEW items that are ecb deals. its not that someone beat you to it, there probably wasn't much. If they run the deal again (and for new products they do run the deal for a few weeks in a row) then you'll be lucky. THat explains alot of the "there were no whatevers all month and now that the deal is over there's cases full". it is not a spiteful manager, it is more like a delay in the item getting to the store. Sorry.

The people I spoke to were actually quite nice and helpful. I am the one who is frustrated (but nice). Initially I planned deals thinking these things would be in stock, but now I plan for a couple of options. Still I want to get most of the stuff that is always out of stock and I think it is extremely fair that they offer rainchecks with ECBs. I still have to haul over on Sunday because my stores don't take expired coupons and who knows if the items will be back in stock before my coupons expire.

As long as you have at least 1 item for each CVS coupon. Meaning you will need a minimum of 2 items to use both the triple ECB coupon and the $4/20.

Other than that, the triple ECB coupon will take off $0.01 to confirm that it has gone through the system.

I thought the coupon CHARGES a penny when it goes through? But I didn't use it last quarter, so I'm not 100% positive.

I know there was a post about this somewhere but can't remember which thread..

If we are using 2 coupons on 2 products of the same kind, a BOGO coupon and another dollar of coupon (one coupon for each product), which one should we use first? The BOGO or the dollar off?

In a BOGO sale, if we are using a BOGO coupon, when should we give the coupon - is it the first coupon to be handed out after Total key press, or is it before Total is pressed..

Thanks.

If you are using 2 coupons on 2 products, give the dollar off coupon BEFORE the BOGO coupon. And I usually try to separate them with another manu q - or two - to make it less obvious.

For a BOGO sale, I don't think it really matters if they've hit the Total key, if you're also using a BOGO coupon. But I like to give my BOGO coupons pretty far down in my stack of manu q's, just to make them a little less obvious. And also because I know they're going to beep, and I'd rather be near the end of my q's when I give them than at the beginning.

Seems to me the beeps tend to cause the cashier to wake up and pay more attention to what they're doing. Not that I'm doing anything wrong, but this can even make the difference if you have a coupon that says 'any' but has a picture of a particular package that is different from what you're buying.

FYI
i messed up getting mine last time .... i got an e-mail saying that i could "print it now, or get it at the store the next time i shopped" .... of course i was over anxious (who me? lol) & i clicked on the link to "print it now"....it took me to the coupon printer (the graphic is a shopping cart)....i can't print from that & i'm guessing that because i clicked on it (even though i couldn't print it) it registered that i "got" my quarterly ECB.....

so i never got mine!!!! :(

so "be careful out there" ;)

Your ECB's print out instantly.

The time you need to wait between stores is if you have a promotion like buy $10 of product x, get $5 ECB back.

This is needed if you buy $5 of product x at store A, then go to store B to buy the other $5 of product x.

This is because the computer can be slow to update your receipt and if you go to store B too quickly, the computer will not catch up until later -- which means your ECB will not print out (since it thinks you haven't made $10 in purchases yet) -- however, the computer will then catch up hours later and you will be limited out of the promotion, requiring you to call CS.

The recommended time is at least 1 hour -- but can be as long as 4-5 hours. The actual time will vary depending on how fast the stores you go to update to the main server in RI.

Also, if you are trying to buy a monthly deal with a limit of more than 1 -- you will also need to wait if you are going to different stores (and you are buying that deal at both stores). This is because you could get a duplicate ECB with the very exact same code -- which will cause the 2nd one of those to beep.

Going to the store only when they have really good deals and abusing the deal - doing the same deal over and over at the same store with same coupon - eg: energizer again, with that $5 energizer coupon where people were getting 50 packs/100 packs, without regard to how this might affect other couponers at that store..

Question about the tax:

If I had a $30 order, I was using 5/30 coupon, $20 in ecbs, $2 crt, and 2$ manufacturer coupon and $1 cash, would my tax be only my total after cvs dollar off, ecb, CRT are subtracted - basically only on $4 - the $3 manufacturer coupon plus $1 oop?

This depends on where you live, and how tax is calculated there. Generally speaking, for me, if I have a $30 order and $30 in coupons, I have no oop. None, nada, zilch. But I know that in other areas, it is reported you can't use an ecb at the end of a transaction if all that is left is tax. You'll have to try this at your store to know for sure.

You would only need two items. ECBs no longer count in your total of coupons to items ratio.

A quick question/suggestion...would it be possible to have a weekly thread for those who simply want to roll their ECBs, like an "ECB Rollers" thread? This thread could mainly be people who want to come out even or make a few ECBs. That way we could work together to come up with different sets of items (along with current coupons, of course) that would work out to break even on ECBs or make ECBs.

It seems like it would be a good idea to me, but what do you think? I know we already have discussion threads, but it seems that a weekly thread like this could be more focused on finding ways to make/roll ECBs.

check out the discussion thread for this week 2/10-2/16. scenarios are listed in the wiki. I'm thinking that having yet another thread for discussing scenarios to roll would be more clutter. I like the current idea of having the scenarios for each week listed in the wiki. some people have suggested listing it under precoupon totals - eg: 50+ purchase, then the deals that use the 10/50 coupon etc. or a 20+ purchase and using the 4/20

Hi, I have a question. I tried to search this thread, but nothing comes up. Please forgive me if this has already been asked before. I am still new to SD and CVS.

I have seen people posting different $4/$20 welcome coupons in the coupon thread. Personally, I already used my own welcome coupon that I got from CVS. Can I use the welcome coupon again and again? I am curious because I see that this seems to be the only coupon available in the printable coupon thread. (and that there are like 5, or 6 with different code and exp date)

Thank you in advance. :worship:

I wouldn't recommend that.. it seems as though CVS has started using the same code over and over for their welcome and valued user coupons. You could possibly run into the "Coupon Usage Exceeds Limit" message on the cashiers register, if you use it over and over. And also, eventually, they will notice that you have been welcomed an awful lot and it could possibly cause you problems with your store.. :) We're all hoping for new printable coupons soon.

Hi,

I'm new here, but I have been browsing on this site for awhile now. I have a question, about B1G1 free coupon usage. Say I bought 2 items with the B1G1 free special. Can I still use two manufacture coupons?

I tried using both manufacture coupons at my CVS and the manager there said I could only use one manufacture coupon since I'm already getting the other one free. I've read somewhere around here that I should be able to use both manufacture coupons and it's corporate policy. Is there a way for me to contact CVS about their corporate policy and let my store manager know? What number should I call, and when are they usually available are they a 24hrs hotline? Thank you in advance.

Your correct and you are suppose to be able to use two coupons.

There's a B1G1 free sale can I use two manufacturer coupons?
It is CVS's policy to let you use one coupon per item, so yes you can use both. If you have a bogo free coupon then you get both items for free. This should always work, but some cashiers and even managers don't know this policy. It depends on the cashier and the store's policy, but it should be fine..

How do I contact CVS?

My CVS card works for discounts and will generate ECBs, but every time I try to use the ECBs they beep and tell the cashier that they are not associated with that card. I am 100% certain though that they are for that card and has happened every time since I obtained it a month ago.

I'll be emailing CVS but wasn't sure if anyone else has had this happen.

Do the last 4 numbers on the "ExtraCare Card #:" below the 9 digit code for the ECB exact the last 4 numbers of your ExtraCare Card?

Maybe you just have a faulty card?

I went to CVS to get an extracare card today. The cashier handed me a card along with a form to fill out, and asked if I wanted to fill the form out now or bring it back later. I said I hoped to use the card today. She said I can still use the card today, even if I don't fill out the form today. No, if you don't fill out your information you will miss out on the following:

1. Coupons mailed to you from CVS on periodic basis (i.e. $x/xx, 1 Free Card when you buy 2 greetings card, $3 off any 3 Kraft Products) will not be sent if you do not provide your address.

2. Not sharing your E-mail address causes you to miss out on all of those valuable coupons that CVS E-mails to your account.

Of course you can still use the card and get the majority of the benefits.

My store recently told me that the ECBs could not be used for buying milk. I did not know this, and when I checked at the cvs web site it says that milk is one of the excluded items.

But how does this work in conjunction with a dollars off coupon? For example if I buy $16 worth of ice cream, and $4 worth of milk and then use a $4 off $20 coupon, can I use upto $16 ECB or upto $12 ECB?

They must have recently excluded milk, as plenty of us have bought it before - both with $/$$ and with ecbs. So I'm not sure how to answer this. My bet would be that if you mix the milk in with other stuff, use a $/$$ and some manu q's, the system will let the ecbs go through for the milk. The cashier might stop the transaction, but I doubt the system will.

Let us know if you try it, how it works.

Don't see why not -- I believe your store manager may be mistaken. I do know though that my previous store manager would not allow milk to be bought with ECB's.

However, the actual list of items excluded when you sign up for an ExtraCare card mentions nothing about dairy products being excluded.

From ExtraCare Rewards (http://www.cvs.com/CVSApp/cvs/gateway/extracarehome):

"Excludes alcohol, tobacco, lottery, gift cards, money orders, postage stamps, pre-paid cards, prescriptions, and special order Home Health Care items, including footwear. "

No mention of milk but "CVS/pharmacy reserves the right to modify or terminate the ExtraCare program without notice" so it is always possible for CVS to exclude it.

No, this coupon adds a penny to your total if you try to use it in store. It used to actually take off the $10, but I guess their programming gurus got hold of it. :sadwalk:

Ummmm, actually I tried this a few days ago and it took a penny off the order. Not that it matters that much.

I am seeing the same thing now, but I am positive that milk was among the restricted products earlier on the CVS web site and the store manager had also told me that I could not use ECBs for milk (this was about 2 weeks ago). It is possible that they put in the restriction and then removed it. And I had often bought milk using ECBs without any problem.

I called 1-800-shopcvs and they told me that I could purchase milk using ECBs.

The manager may have been confused because the list of things that employees do not get a discount on is that exact same list except it includes milk. So maybe the manager just assumed it was the same for the ECB.

hi,

GREAT FAQ!
I am unclear from what the FAQ says re manufacturer's Q. Do they take tax associated with their amount off. For example, if I use $1 man Q do I get -$1 off the total or -$1.08? I know that CVS coupons and ECB do that.

thanks!

Whether a manufacturer's q will take tax off depends upon how tax is figured in your state, and how the cashier keys it in, if they have to do more than scan it (ie taxable or non-taxable). Here, a manufacturer's q generally takes off tax at most any store I go to. You need to try it locally. If you give your coupons one at a time, you can watch the register and figure out how it works for you.

Today while CVSing, i bought the incorrect item towards the buy $30 get $15 ecb deal and didn't realize it until I got in the car. Long story short, I returned the 9.99 papertowels and bought the 5.49 tissue. The cashier said she could only return the amount I paid after all my coupons, $4.35. So she applied the ecbs that printed out from the "incorrect" transcation and part of the $4.35. to the tissue. Was that right? The machine kept prompting me to scan my debit card and it looked like it was gonna give me 9.99 back. She said not to do that, and insisted she would give me cash back. I was so confused that I just went along with it. Any thoughts???? Sorry if this doesn't make sense.

The times that I have taken items back they put it on a money card. However, the cashier was correct in you only get refunded the amount of the item minus the coupons used. Are you saying that the ECB from the papertowels printed a seperate ECB from the Kimberly Clark deal and they applied it to your refund? If so that is very YMMV but consider yourself lucky they used the ECB.

I have a scenerio that I worked today as an example:

I went to Walgreens today and accidently bought the Gillette Fusion ($11.99) rather than the Phenom ($9.99). The manager did the exchange but did not give me back the difference but I did get the Register Reward. When I got home I realized my mistake so later when my wife and I were running some errands I stopped back to the store and talked to the same manager. He remembered me from earlier and he did a refund/re-buy so to give me the $2 back (I did actually but more items rather than just go back for my $2see this post (http://forums.slickdeals.net/showpost.php?p=10282871&postcount=34) with items #2 thru #5) but it printer another Register reward. He gave it to me but rather than take it I gave it back and told him to get rid of it as I did not earn it.

The ecbs that printed out came from the colgate and aspirin that I bought. I just didn't like the fact that I had to sign a return without receipt although I had one. The "machine" was prompting a 9.99 credit (I assume for a money card) that I didn't get and I lost ecbs. Overall, lesson learned...I will make sure to pay better attention next time. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that she rang my order up twice (b/c she messed up) and the totals were diff't each time. This was just a bad CVS trip...oh well, can't win them all. :)

That's how I read the situation too, but I kind of felt like I was at her mercy. She was really nice, so I was hesitant to question what she was doing. Like I said lesson learned, I will pay more attention. Hopefully I won't have such an expensive foul-up again. One good thing about the experience, she didn't seem to really care that I had a lot of coupons so I would say she is SD friendly. FYI, this was the CVS on Wake Forest Rd. Another question, have you shopped at the 24hr CVS on Capital lately? Seems like they have hired a lot of newbies. You almost have to walk them through the transactions.

 I usually go there on my lunch, so the crowd seems ok. Last night was my first time visiting the store at night , @9pm. I did notice that the crowd in the store and the cashiers seemed younger. Luckily we live in an area where there are CVS's everywhere. :)

Understand I am new at this and trying.

Two Questions:

1. If I wanted to earn 10 ECB by buying 20 dollars worth of product and had coupons, how does that work. I didn't really understand the answer in the FAQ. So, do I add up all of the merchandise before coupons and when I get to twenty bucks, stop? How does that work if you have a buy one, get one free coupon? Do I still count the price of the "free" item in my 20 dollars worth of product?

2. In order to get the deal, do you have to buy all 20 dollars worth of product in one visit? Or does it add up over a given week?

Thanks so much,
Anna

To answer your questions:

1. You are correct - it's 20 dollars worth of items before coupons. $/$$, BOGO, and other coupons are used to make the deal sweeter. Ideally, you want to get the total AFTER coupons to be less than the ECB's that you'll be getting back, thus making a profit.

2. You can spread it out over the week of the sale (typically Sunday-Saturday).

Give corporate a call at 1-800-SHOP-CVS. I believe it takes 48 hours for the transactions to get transferred to them, so make sure it's been at least that long since your last purchase toward that deal. Of course, have your receipts handy and be prepared to spell everything out - it'll make your life (and the life of the CS rep) much easier ;)

If it winds up that you bought the wrong items, I'd just go ahead and return them.

You might want to double check your items.. sometimes you can buy the right brand name, but it might be the wrong size item or it might be the wrong count box (like a 20 count box will work, but the larger 35 count box might not, just as an example.) Did you buy it all in one transaction? Did you split it up, and buy it in two or three transactions, all within an hour..? Let us know a little more info, and some good detectives here will help you sort it out. :)

Ok, so I was reading up on these a little bit as was intrigued. Let me see if I have this right.

I go to CVS with my ECB card( I have already registered for one online and am waiting for it to come)
I buy a pack of gum or something like that.

A receipt prints out with a bunch of coupons for free stuff.

I then grab the free stuff when it is available and then go to the register and say here is my
ECB card and get charged nothing?

Any help would be appreciated.

Hmm.. it's a little more complicated than that, but you're on the right track. Did you read all of the FAQ stuff here..? It answers more questions. The basic idea is to buy stuff that will earn you ECBs in return - then you combine the ECBs, manufacturer coupons, and CVS coupons to "roll" your ECBs by buying MORE stuff that will earn you ECBs. Try checking out the CVS Deals thread for this week, and take a look at some of the deals people are doing. They are posted very detailed, so you can read a few and get some good ideas.

The Manhattan stores don't participate in many of the ECB deals. (Which is why they aren't in the ad). You will have to visit a store that has the full ad and not the 4 page circular for you to get your ECB.

Also, did you know certain CVS stores (i.e. near Walt Disney World and on the Vegas Strip) are stores that never generate ECB's? :shocking:

Read through the deals thread for each week, and you'll find the items which have ecbs. Usually the wiki (second post in a thread) has lots of this info all combined.

Yes, ecbs print out at the bottom of your receipt. It is definitely easier to go by the ad and info here than the detail that prints out at the bottom of your receipt (in addition to the ecbs).
