just a suggestion, but maybe each forum could be split into still working deals and then expired deals. i always get excited to see an awsome deal and then realize that it is already expired. that sucks

When a deal expires, the OP is supposed to update the title of the thread to include a word like "Dead," or "Gone," or "Expired." If that's not getting done now, it wouldn't help to have a separate forum for expired deals, because they'd never get moved there.
Also, people do continue to discuss rebates, installation, product usage, features, etc..
Finally, they come back to life (same deal, different expiration date), and it can be better to add on to the existing thread rather than create a new one.

If a deal no longer works, you can ModAlert the post, and explain that the deal is dead. Especially if multiple people have posted that it didn't work, one of the moderators will edit the title of the thread to include "*DEAD*" or whatever.

I much prefer SD to FW but I do like the Deal Discussion forum idea that FW uses. When a deal is dead and the posts start getting wildly off-topic, the mods move the threads from the Hot Deals area to Deal Discussion.
Take a look at the current BB speaker thread. The discussion is no longer about the deal but instead is about how horrible BB is. It would be nice to get a thread like that moved out of Hot Deals thread.
Just my 2 cents.

i'd not advise that, mainly because some people mod alert deals they couldn't get to work as dead when they just made a mistake.
as to wammer's point, unless a mod got in on that deal, most likely they aren't keeping up with the deal thread and no one in their right mind will want to read a 1000+ posts to make sure everyone is playing nice. if its really gotten off topic, thats a great example to modalert it. we'll either split off the thread into the lounge or close it.

I completely agree about moving the thread to a new forum "Hot Deals - Expired". Because there are frequently many *DEAD* threads and it does get very annoying re-reading the same thread topic on the main page. Give OP's the ability to move it to that forum so the moderator's have less work to do. If it comes back to life, let them move it back to "Hot Deals".
Another big irritation I have is the vast majority of OP's putting adjectives like *HOT*, *SSSSMOKIN*, *WARM?*, *FLAMING!!*, etc as the first word of their subject of the thread. I'm already in the Hot Deals forum, so I KNOW the thread is hot, duh. It's very distracting seeing all these words when I'm visually scanning down the page looking for more important keywords that I'm personally interested in. Is there a way the board can automatically filter out these useless adjectives? Especially when someone's opinion of what HOT means is completely subjective and many times I think: "I got excited about that?? 0.49 paperclips? *sigh*.."
