View Full Version : What I suggest be done with those who repost deliberately

I have a suggestion...
Most of us in the Freebie forum have this long running complaint about reposts.
I think those who repost deliberately ( without searching )
AND
its obvious ( The.glock, RK24, Jhlemmeriii, for example)
should be warned ( high points warning ) and if they continue...
BANNED.
If they cant and wont follow the rules, then out with them. They can go to FW where that clutter crap is okay.
Its one thing to repost occasionally ( Im guilty of that) but they do it intentionally. And, they know it and when someone hollars Repost to them, they get all pissy. Hmmm...
And, to beat it all, they have been here a while and know the rules.
The mods should then lookout for them to sign up again under a different name ( via IP check) and make sure they dont come back.
Its either that or continue hearing REPOST and complaining from real posters like Me, OP, RyansF, Geeke,Ttweak, PenPen ( who is contributing some nice NEW posts lately ;) )
The Mods have suggested in the past that "we" dont scream 'Repost', but simply Mod Alert the post but that has become a Job in itself and I dont feel Im getting 'paid' enough to clean out the trash.
If they want me to do it.. then give me MOD privledges and I will keep the place clean. ;)
I know this will become hotly debated but its a suggestion.

I posted this in another thread, but it didn't get any attention. This about how people have 1,200 posts just by saying "repost"
I think a button that says "Report This Thread As A Duplicate Link" would be nice. It would be located right by the ModAlert and Reply button. It would then send it to some Mods or Elite Members so they can check and merge the threads (or delete them). That way people won't be shouting "Repost!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111" every minute.
You don't need mods to do it, really. Just some trusted members that only have permissions to merge threads.

That's what the Mod alert button is for. Just click it and paste the link to the original thread in the alert box. The mods will merge the threads.

ban me from an open forum? God blesss America. I just posted deals, didnt search, my bad, but it was still all in the name of deals and helping people out. I don't understand why that is such a difficult concept. I have brought for to SD then 95% of you.... Some reposts get in there but I also made everyone $20 or more to amazom in the bronze air deal. You can say you are sorry now

reposts happen to the best of us. but when you take the time to search its something we just live with. but if you openly say its probably a repost, didn't search and will not search that's not helping anything. stay out of the freebie section if you don't want to play by the rules.

I guess it all depends on if you want to find deals or not. Slickdeals isisn't all it is made up to be, most deals (if not all) are just stolen from other sites...

No one wants anyone banned for posting .... they want you gone for disregarding the rule and reposting then harrassing and annoying other members.
I have tried to very nicely PM you and explain how the forum works but your have become obnoxious and hateful.
Your signature just validates your defiance.
You may have had one great deal you passed on to the members but that doesnt give you permission to slack off and not do like the rest of us do.
You say you want to help people, then search. I know it takes a few more minutes time but its worth it. Youre not doing anyone any favor or finding anyone any deals by reposting.
Play by the rules and no one will want you gone.

I have to agree with Jen. There is nothing worse than trying to help someone out and in return recieve a hateful PM back, cussing you out for being nice.
And with a sig. like the one jhlemmeriii has, well, that speaks more than enough to me.

I don't need you to PM me and tell me... See the thing is, I am very knowledgable about this slickdeals site. I have posted many deals. I dont see how a repost is so bad, if no one responds it will just get lost in oblivian. So by respoding "repost" you bump it and make it an issue.

I never sent a hateful PM in return. Nor did I cuss anyone out. That is defimation of character, which is acctually illegal in public forums and usage such as this. You say I do not play by the rules, yet you don't play by the rules of society. Interesting...

I never mentioned a name, but it has happened on a number of occasions. Not to mention, most common law does not extend to the internet, so please don't try to threaten me. Its not appreciated.
But you mentioned "playing by the rules". From what I've seen, you don't play by the rules of this forum, so don't talk to me about "rules."
Also, I'm sure I can safely assume that Jen did not creat this thread based solely on your actions, but on the actions of people who join & post on this board & do not adheir to the rules & reccomendations set by the owners & moderators of this website. I share Jen's frustrations & anger to people who walk in here, don't follow the rules & post away, flame other memebers & treat people here like they are dirt. It's not appreciated & needs to stop!

Logically, you could simply bump the older post and accomplish the exact same thing, without bothering anyone.

This is a privately owned forum. And your real identity is entirely unknown here. You cannot be defamed when no one knows who you are.
Libel is only illegal if you can demonstrate malice of intent, by the way.

First of all, I would like to thank the mods for speaking out regarding to the issue of reposts. I think this clears up to all members as to where SD stands toward the topic, and prevents unnecessary divion and debates among members as to whether reposts are "bad" or "good". As members of SD, we all agreed to the rules that Mr. SD and the mods stated, and if someone doesn't agree with them, perhaps he/she would refrain from particiate in the forums.
As to what Optimus said, she did not mention any names. To me, she was just voicing her opinion about what she thought was bad. I was going to add this but Aluvus beat me to it; there was no malicious intent when Optimus was typing out the "falsehood" as claimed. So, there is no libel at all. I can't even believe it was brought up here.
Jhlemmeriii, I know you posted some really good deals in the Hot Deals forum before, and all SDers are grateful to posters who post awesome deals, so your good contribution are definately appreciated by all. All we ask is for reposters, such as you, to do a search before you post, which is not difficult. I don't see why you are having such a hard time with following that practice.
I hope don't take this as personal attacks; at least from my stand point, I just wanted a more orderly forum so it'd be easier to read through the forums for everyone.

I think the fact that we are trying to say it wasn't a personal attack is crazy. The message was obviously directed to me. If it wasn't then why was my name mentioned there after? As for law not applying to the internet, that is crazy, it does apply, it was not written thinking it would but there is no way you can tell me that common law does not apply to the internet... that is like saying stealing money on ebay is now fine, just becuase its online.
As far as mods go, they are not fair, they assume, and operate one side tracks, but who cares anyway. I posted a thread about how our mods shouldnt be thought of to be all high and mighty as they are, and what happend, they removed it... Liberals

Fine.... then I wont PM you anymore. I will just point out the fact that you are reposting in an open forum, make you look useless and lazy because you wouldnt use search and then you can counter my 'repost' post with a 'who cares' post.
Yeah.. I see where that works!
You say youre knowledgeable regarding this site.. then show some respect for the rest of us and follow the rules.
And...If you dont see where reposts are so bad, go tell it to the MODS.

Good Lord, child.. are you trying to get KICKED out? Whats the purpose of debating this if all youre going to do is talk sh*t?
No one appreciates me.. Mods arent fair, people are defamming my name..
WTF?? Sounds like YOURE NOT HAPPY here.
So, what do you do? You punish the members of the forum because you have a lack of respect for everyone who doesnt see things your way??
You cant have it both ways. Either you want to stay here and do like the rest of us... or you dont.
Its a simple choice.

My gosh, what's wrong with you? There are other more important reasons why people say repost. When *I* say repost, and I always provide the link, is so that the other people can go back to the original thread and see what comments were said about the deal AND so the mods can merge the thread more easily because the link was already given. It's not really meant to just tell the reposter that it's a repost - what good does it do since it's already a repost.
I addressed you in the posts only because you repeatedly post freebies that were already posted, but I have to say that I am rather disappointed by the way you reacted. You disregarded the rules and demonstrated some poor attitude. I don't see how people personally attacked you if all they said was repost, and suggest that you do a search first. Of course, after a few reminders, and you rudely ignore them, that's when people get annoyed with you and then may choose to be not as civil. So it's all about how you handled their suggestions.
I'll give it to you that the law does apply on the internet, but by bringing up defamation of character to this case?? You've got to be kidding.
I really don't get why you are so resistant on doing a simple search before you post. Your reason that bumping don't last long just doesn't fly because it doesn't make sense. Is it just because you are lazy? Or, you are against searching for some other reason? What if everyone think the way you do about reposts: Heck, I can repost deals from the day before everyday and SOME people will surely thank me for reposting because they didn't see it when the original thread was posted. (And, I bet I'd be flamed by the majority of the people and only few people will thank me.) But would that work, heck no! The forum will be a total mess filled with duplicate (or even more, other people do the same thing I do, too) posts!
Why don't you think about the bigger picture, instead of just how YOU feel and what YOU want. I believe the mods are just doing their job to keep the forums in order, as they should.

God bless America: a place where you can create your own forum if you don't like the rules of this one.
Maybe you did just post deals and were too lazy to search... or maybe... you purposely posted deals that you found here because it would help you increase your rep points. I'm not going to be the judge of that--I'll believe you if you say you didn't. But, the point is someone COULD do that, and that should not be allowed.
So either way, you are wrong.
