Thanks, I want a good deal... I live on sd's so I am use to getting great deals! I will take a used 2006+ But no one here will budge on there profit.. 2000.00+ They dont have to spend time getting me to buy. just do the paper work and i am out the door. But it seems they will Die if they dont go through the 4 hour haggling crap. Why cant they settle for 500.00 in there pocket for a hours worth of time? Why is it that they greed and want that 2000.00+ I would be happy for 500.00 an hour and move on to the next person.

Anyway thanks for the links I will check them out. If I fly to texas will you make a great deal and I will drive back? :)

Sure!

Or you can just purchase from me, Ill fedex the paperwork...let you sign it and send it back...and we can just transport the car to you....I do it all the time...lol

Hi Bond (sounds cool)

I finally managed to get the civic coupe LX AT for 18.3k OTD. Was it a good deal? Reason I am asking is because I plan to purchase one more for my cousin.

Depends on your area of course...and if that is for a 2008 or 2009 Model!

Great deal if its a 2009...ok if its a 2008...lol

A couple months back I paid $24,400 (destination included) out the door for a 2008 Honda Accord EX-L V6 Auto transmission (MSRP $28,900). I think I did pretty well, but what about you?

I was just quoted for a 2009 Civic Coup EX ... $18,719 plus your OTD costs i mentioned.
$150 state tax, $58.50 license and registration, $299 doc fee, and $5 tire tax. You will also have sales tax of 6.8%

This is $200 below dealer invoice. This is an auto transmission

How does this sound?

Thanks again for your time.

Hi,

I am looking to purchase a new 09' Civic EX automatic 4 door in Los Angeles,CA. My first car is a used car and I've never purchased a new car so this is all very new to me. I've asked around and got a quote from a dealer for $18,777(including dest.&handling). Not sure how much the licensing and title fees would come out to and not sure if this is a good deal or not but would appreciate your input. Thanks a bunch!

Yeah I would say so....dont know how they got that low...but looks good (unless you have a real low tax rate)

Your biggest concern right now should be how they are going to finance you and at what rate....then you can work out the car price numbers (although that price looks fine...)

With you never having purchased before, and the current state of lending...what rate and term they want to put you in should be your number one priority,.

If I can get the dealer to give me $20,000 OTD, would that be a good deal for a 09' Civic EX 4 door automatic? Also, is there a price difference between the colors? And would it be better to go through a car broker than to do self-research (i.e. contacting several dealers in the area to get the best price)?
Thanks for your advice!

Auto Brokers means you actually pay more in the long run...and most dealers wont work with them because they are so hard to deal with...just do what you are doing and research it all your self....and yes that would be a good price.

we are needing to size-up to a minivan now that my wife is pregnant with babies 2 and 3, so used odyssey's have been our target. we would like to stay as close to 10k as possible, are also wanting 04's/05's with higher mileage (70k and up)

most of these are in my area seem to be listing around $14k, so what is a realistic expectation for us here?

Do you think it's possible for me to ask for below $20,000 OTD for the 2009 Civic EX automatic 4 door? Would $19,000 be unreasonable? Don't want to haggle too much as I don't want to sound unreasonable but considering how expensive things are today and how much of a slump we are in these days (economy-wise), I like to save a few bucks or save as much as I can...

Hey what do you think of this deal my gf just bought a new Honda Fit 09 base automatic for $15,800 we live in Massachusetts some of the extras that we got were exterior paint and interior protection for $400, extra warranty which seems like she over paid on was 7 year and 80K warranty for $1495, lojack for $695 so the final price came out to $18390. I did a check afterwards about the warranty and it seems like it should have cost only $560!!! They did say this warranty can be cancelled and the remainder would be prorated and refunded so I'm thinking we should cancel it and rebuy it.

There are places you can purchase online warranties....however 560.00 for the same coverage would be a little un-believeable....so make sure you read the fine print there on whatever you are reading....

The price you paid seems about right for the coverage you got...and depending on how long she plans to keep the car will determine wether it was worth it or not.

CB,

I received a quote for an '09 Honda Accord EXL sedan I4, w/o nav, for $24,274 - 3 year/15K year lease for $331/month, 0 down, is this a good deal? This apparently includes my tax at 5.8%. What is the residual on one of these anyway???

I am going to purchase THIS week, should I pull the trigger or do you think I could do better?

Thank you in advance for your help!

I was test driving the Civic and Fit Sport yesterday. Is it really true that the FIT is going for over MSRP? The dealer I was at offered it to me at the MSRP price and said that I was lucky. Wasn't sure if that was true or just something he was saying.

Fit Sport AT was offered to me at 19292.03 OTD
Civic LX AT was offered to me at 19077.43 OTD

Are these good?

Thanks!

Although Many dealerships will try to get away with Charging over MSRP or adding a bunch of accessories to a fit to jacvk up the price, so as to get more profit out of them....this is by no means the "norm" and on many occasions small discounts can be found....even if it is only a couple hundred bucks.

19,292 OTD for a Sport Auto non-Nav??

What is your tax rate?? Anything under 6.25% and it looks high to me...

Yes, no nav. I am in NJ, so tax is at 7%. I've been checking dealers around me. No one willing to offer the FIT for lower then MSRP yet.

However, at this rate, I may just stick w/ a civic lx or ex. Those seem to be discounted. I got offered a ex sedan for $18124 before destination, tax and tags, etc. And a lx for $16427 before destination, tax and tags, etc. Is this more inline with what you were expecting? I know you told me the first ones I got were a bit high.

I will give it some more thought before buying a brand new car. Do you think maybe waiting another month would give me a better deal on the 2009s? Would buying the car in January be cheaper than buying in Dec.?

Also, a dealer just emailed me this quote:
2008 Civic EX Price is $18,111 *
All prices plus tax, tag, government and dealer fees. Not responsible for typographical errors. Prices and rebates subject to change without notice. Subject to prior sale. Miles, if shown, are approximate.
Do you think they will sell it to me if I ask for $16,000 OTD? or would that be too unreasonable? I am willing to purchase the car instead of taking out a loan...

Hey CB, I just found your thread and heard great thing about you. I am currently in the market for a 04-Current s2000. I am looking for the best deal possible, hopefully a used factory certified. I have been on craiglist, autotrader, vehix, ebay, (EVERYTHING) for months and the lowest I've seen was 2006,17k private dealer with 19k miles. Target purchase would be around March or later, but hearing about the end of the year technique should I purchase now rather than later. I live around 94704 and 91775 so any deals or tips will be helpful! thanks :D

Just starting to look for replacement mini-van. Love our current Odyssey but it is getting long in the tooth and wifey wants to roll the rear windows down (don't ask)...

Looking for 2007 - 2009 EX Model and haven't tested the market yet, better going used or do new car incentives make buying new better right now? Zip code is 85737 and I'm willing to drive up to Phoenix if I have to (but not Texas - already drove to San Antonio last summer - too far!).

Appreciate any ready info you can provide. I also like the Sienna - not sure how it prices out with similar features as Honda EX Trim level.

Thanks!

As a Rule...the Sienna will always be an average of 3-5k More than a Comparably equipped Odyssey....and Im talking actual selling prices, not MSRP....

On the 09 Models...this one is going to depend on how flexible your dealership is because there are incentives available that may or may not be used by them.

Since you are looking at the EX trim....the features between an 07/08 to 09 Model will not be much different....so I would suggest you looking at Certified Used 07/08's or if they have any left....even a new 08 Model that may be getting old on their lot.

If you want specific pricing comps...email me directly...cbondhonda@yahoo.com

On the MPG Thing...I had an 07 Cool Blue Accord Sedan EXL 4 cylinder for a demo for 8 months almost...and I never got anywhere close to that low MPG's...and I drive hard....and it has the same engine as your 06.....

So either you are killing that car, have horrendous driving conditions....or there has to be something going on with it internally....otherwise Honda Buyers would have strung up most dealerships by now....

On what you want to sell it for...the best thing to do would be to search dealers inventory through sites like autotrader.com for your area, as well as sites like KBB and NADA...this way you can average yours somewhere in between....

Keep in mind, you cant ask for the same amount on yours as what a dealer will sell a certified used for...and the condition or yours goes a long way too...(you also will want to pull a carfax on it to show potential buyers....

No, the conditions are not so bad. I drive 7 miles everyday just go to school. What should i tell the dealer about it?

No, the conditions are not so bad. I drive 7 miles everyday just go to school. What should i tell the dealer about it?

How many total miles do you put on the car each day?

if you only drive it 14 Miles a day....then that is part of the problem there.....because chances are you drive no higway at all, and the car doesnt even get warmed up before you turn it off.....so there may be a fuel filter / air filter / oil filter issue...

And the driving you do is also city only (stop signs, red lights, etc....) so it never really has a chance to get to a point where it maximizes economy...

Im no tech...so dont take everything I say as gold...it just seems to make a little more sense if that is your driving situation....especially in the cold that you have there.

Re: 09 odyssey EX

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Quote from gaitau :
hi, i saw an web ad on one of the DCH honda site in NJ.
i email the sales rep and confirm this is a legit deal.

what is the catch?, the price seems too good for a technically EX-L w/ RES & NAV....

thanks in advance to help me out.

below is the copy & paste of the website wording.

2009 Honda Odyssey EX Automatic Transmission
Price: $30,495*
Stock No: AH90516
Model No: RL3849EW

Leather Interior*

Navigation with Back Up Camera*

DVD System*

2009 Honda Odyssey EX

# Original M.S.R.P $29,355.00
# Leather Seats*
# Navigation with Back Up Camera*
# 8.5" DVD Entertainment System*
# Power Sliding Doors
# Automatic Transmission
# Front Threshold, Front Side and 3 Row Side Curtain
# ABS Brakes
# Vehicle Stability Assist w/Traction Control
# Remote Keyless Entry
# Tire Pressure Monitoring System
# 7 Passenger Minivan
# 6 Disc In-Dash CD Changer AM/FMCD Radio w/MP3 Auxillary Jack
# Air Conditioning with Air Filtration System

*Dealer Installed Accessories. Stock # AH90516 Last 8 of VIN # 9B012912 or comparable vehicle in stock. Not responsible for typographical errors.

My response:

The catch is that that vehicle is actually an EX!!! Model Number RL3849EW is for an EX odyssey, wheras for an EXL DVD Nav, it should be RL3879KW!!!

So they have either added those things to an EX, or are playing games...basically showing the specs of an EXL NAVI on an EX car price and model number....and if you notice there at the bottom where it says "dealer Installed Accessories"

So beware...and get clarifaction on that model number to specs before you make a purchase.....

Hey - thx for this thread. In a couple of months my wife and I wanted to buy a Honda Odyssey touring. Can be new or used. We wanted to get the best deal - Black exterior with tan leather interior. I would prefer to have non-pax but I can get new wheels and tires if I can find a deal. please let me know what is out there. I live in Atlanta, GA and I dont mind flying somewhere to bring a vehicle back - already have done that once.

Hello CBondHonda,

I am looking for a 2009 Honda CR-V LX, just a basic model with floor mats. I did the edmunds thing to get multiple quotes from dealers around florida. I am in sarasota fl, so my tax rate is 6% State + (1% county up to $50). Already own a car, so transfer tag.

My lowest quote so far has been this

Car Price 19,750.00
Dealer Fee 492
Sales Tax 1,251.89
Tag Fee $95
Out the Door Price: 21,588.89

I couldn't figure out how they came up with the tax #, since its off by about $16.xx. However, its the lowest quote so far, out of 11 honda dealers.

I haven't told them this yet but I am going to pay straight cash, no finance etc. I also want to get that price of $21,588 down about another 300 to 400, think its possible?

I also have a crap car to trade in, 1994, pretty much worthless. Do you think you could give me any idea on how much Honda may offer for it, if I send you the specs?

If you PM back or post that would be great. I'm going to buy this Friday, hopefully.

Many Thanks for your time.

Hi, hopefully you can help me out. We are looking at the 2009 Honda Pilots. We found one that we liked and I'd appreciate it if you could give me some feed back on this deal we were offered:

2009 Pilot EX-L RES 4WD - MSRP = $37,465.00 (according to the dealer)
They are offering $32,090.50
+ $2,305.50 in accessories (it has running boards and a roof rack and some other minor stuff)
= $34,395.00

Out the door price (fees/taxes) = $36,922.43

We are located in NE Ohio - Just North of Canton.

THANKS!

My best advice to you would be to have them price you one with no adds, and compare it to this one with the adds....and get a list of EXACTLY what they added and the cost for each....and compare them to each other...

2300.00 is a LOT of add ons...so they may have added things you dont really want, that you are paying for when you shouldnt.

What base price for a 2009 Honda CR-V LX would GUNN Honda be looking at? I wrote to RVD and he said to ask you.

If I post my old car specs that I am trading in, would it be possible to get what a Honda dealer will offer? I've already done kbb and another. Curious as what Honda will offer as that usually is always different.

Thanks,

Thanks for your reply! You were correct, there were a lot of things that we didn't need in that 2300.

With your great wisdom and uncanny insight into all things Honda, do you see any financing or incentive deals coming up for the Pilot? They really aren't offering anything now.

I was gonna ask you the same question about financing.
Since, the honda website has only deals on leasing listed unti 2/2/09, is there a possibility that they might bring financing back.

At a time when honda is supposed to have good financing, they took it out of the market after 1/5/09.

As a dealership, doen't honda let you know such information atleast a few days before.

2/2/09 is not too far away

Actually, from all of the info we get....there are supposed to be no changes until March 3....however we are in the dark just as much as anyone when it comes to things like that...

We will not know what they plan to do until they do it....regardless of what yours or my personal opinions are about the matter...lol

It seems to me they took it away to help solidify resale values for the start of the year...and to make the leasing a bigger incentive to do (which is smarter right now anyway if you can lease)

I have a question...within the past month, I had a HORRIBLE experience with a Honda dealership in Queens, NY. Besides all the dishonesty/bait and switch and whatever, they offered the "invoice" price on Edmunds for an Accord EX model - $21,995. However, they had to locate my car, and offered to take off $200+mats if I took one in stock. My 2 questions are... 1) Is the "invoice" price on Edmunds not an actual invoice price, and 2) What that price a good deal?

Thanks!

On Edmunds, those numbers do not reflect any destination charge (670.00) or any Incentives that may be available...so dont use Edmunds as a crutch....

You want to compare actual selling prices in your area, as well as check the Edmunds Forums to see what people in your area may be getting (although many posts there are unreliable...and for lack of a better term that I can post here...Un-True...)

Also, get out of discussing a car price only....work in Drive Out numbers...numbers that include all taxes, fees, destination etc...that way you can compare apples to apples instead of apples to tomatos...

Basically you want to approach your shopping by asking the dealer in question "If I walked in with a blank check, how much would I write it for to drive out in this car"

Ill PM you some numbers to use that we are selling our accord EX for...

I bet you know I'm a first time car buyer, too!

I did look on the Edmunds forums, and there was only 1 post with the same car model that I had. The section that says "what others are paying for this car" was about $500 more than what I was quoted.

But you're right, I should discuss the final car price. The dealership was going on and on about how great a price I got, and refused to throw in more than the door visors. Whatever lol

CBondHonda,

I am currently looking into getting an 09 Sedan Civic EX (with spoiler if possible). I am currently talking to a few dealers and the best price I got so far was 19.8k OTD without any haggling done yet. I expect to do so within the upcoming days.

My goal is to get it at 18K OTD with a spoiler. Now thats probably wishful thinking but it's my wish. lol. I would be satisfied with getting it at 19K OTD (with spoiler). I really want the spoiler (more like a tip). It looks incomplete without it but I can manage without one, if necessary.

What are you thoughts on getting a new civic in the 18-19K OTD range? Can it be done?

I live in Chicago, if that helps.

Not sure about your local area...but here we have Honda Certified Used SE Accord (07 - 20k Miles) for 15.5k...that have a Better than New Car warranty...

So I would have to say no...based on what we have them for....however your area may be a little different...

To be able to get as low as 18k OTD would not be possible...because of cost of the car and lack of incentives available...however you may be able to work another couple to few hundred off of that number.

Hi CBhonda,
My civic lease is up soon and looking to buy or lease an accord.
I was inquiring about leasing options that will fit my budget but the salesperson just told me the prices quickly and verbally that i had to write down the numbers for different trims. Maybe he thinks i am not serious of getting car. Anyway, As i was leaving for the Toyota Dealership across the street, I came across the use-car guy told me there is an "08" Accord EXL V6 that they said it is "new" leftover model. Its on sale for 23.2K. The mileage on the car shows 31miles which interest me. Is this a good deal? I did not go for it because they wont tell me what will be the exact interest rate and only said 5-7%. They run my credit and its excellent. Having owned 3 hondas (2 from the same dealer) i was was expecting to get a better rate. So im thinking of getting a loan somewhere else. Also how much is a good deal for the 09 models?

Hi, I'm looking to buy a new (or relatively new) 07-09 Civic Hybrid (around 22K OTD or less preferably). I'm not really in a rush or anything so I'll be able to wait for any future dealer incentives. My question is, will Honda be offering any 0.9% or 1.9% financing specials anytime soon?

Thanks for all your help!!

PS I am located in the SoCal area.

First off, you guys need to give more reps to CBondHonda, he/she is providing a hell of a service to us.

Secondly, I am in Maryland (sale tax 6%) shopping for a brand new 2009 Honda Accord EX-L in black/black, no accessories or add-ons, I am being quoted around 22-23k + tax/charges/fees, and the dealers have been trying very hard to not give me an out the door pricing, and pressuring me to come in. Is it reasonable to ask for 22k out the door, or can I even go lower? Thanks.

They cant really tell you a rate until you have decided on a car and are ready to sign paperwork...however there are TONS of lenders out there who are offering different rates for different areas...so I would start with whatever your bank is...or go to bankrate.com and check out what is going on for your area.

On the 08 leftover...thats a personal decision you need to make...do you go for a 1 1/2 year old car just to save 1500 bucks?

There are some great lease specials right now...and you can get specific payments and so forth through the honda website...just click on specials...then lease payments.

There are special rates on Civics right now...(for Texas at least...but im pretty sure it is a national thing)

Just check the honda site for specifics of what is going on in your area...

On that OTD you are wanting, however...not gonna happen. Not enough room to get even close...with no Down or Positive Equity trade....

With that car price...(and that is a good one...especially if destination is included) just work up your own drive out...

XX,XXX.00 Car Price (make sure they are quoting WITH destiantion included)
x,xxx.00 Taxes at 6% x Car Price
300.00 Average DMV Fees, Doc etc...

XX,XXX.00 Total Drive Out

If their number doesnt match to yours, then you know something is up....

I've found a private party in Seattle selling a 2008 Honda Fit (non-sport) Automatic with 8000 miles for "$12,500 or best offer". They claim it's in mint condition, and that they're selling it because they've bought a 2009 Fit. I haven't got a full Carfax report, but the little free preview says it has 9 records - is that weird for a car that new & supposedly mint?

Am I right in thinking that's a pretty slick deal if there's nothing wrong with the car? What should I look for to make sure I'm not getting hoodwinked?

Thanks for any assistance...

Update - I managed to get an Autocheck on the car, and wouldn't ya know it there are problems. I'm thinking this just disqualifies it from consideration, but let me know if there's any reason to consider looking at it anyway. Here are the pertinent details:

07/01/2008 (OR) VEHICLE IN DEALER INVENTORY
07/06/2008 (OR) ACCIDENT REPORTED(Case #:08806700)
07/28/2008 OR Motor Vehicle Dept. TITLE (Title #:0821065406)(Lien Reported)
09/03/2008 OR 567 miles ODOMETER READING FROM DMV
09/09/2008 OR TITLE (Title #:0825389423) SALVAGE INSURANCE LOSS
10/18/2008 WA Motor Vehicle Dept. (Title #:0829209011) CORRECTED TITLE
10/18/2008 WA Motor Vehicle Dept. REGISTRATION EVENT/RENEWAL

What does "Corrected Title" Mean? I assume that this car has been in a bad accident (or two?), so bad that it was considered totaled by the owner's insurance company, right? But the fact that the current owner is describing it as "mint" condition has to mean that he had it pretty thoroughly repaired?

Looking at these records, how much savings would you need below blue book value to even consider looking at the car?

DO NOT BUY IT!

That is a car that was in a bad enough accident for it to be classified as a salvaged title....and that usually means there were some MAJOR damage done to it...repaired or not doesn't matter because it could be a safety issue to even drive it now.

It looks like whoever titled it did something shady and tried to what we call "Clean the Title" so that the salvage part wouldn't show up....and honestly if that is the case, whoever is trying to sell that car is doing so illeagally anyway.

I am ready to purchase a 2009 Honda Accord EXL 4cyl. Coupe MT and the price quoted is $23.4K with a drive out total of $25087.40. The wife wants a rear spoiler but I am not sure if this is included (I haven't been to the dealer, have been communicating via email when I requested a quote via their website the picture of the car did have it). Anyway, what do you think? This is in San Antonio, TX. Also, does it matter if I plan on using cash? Do dealers prefer you finance with them so they can make money that way also? I have the cash on hand but was just curious if that helps or hinders.

Thanks

I wondered if that was the case. One of the scarier Carfax reports I've seen, given the short timeframe in which everything happened - 07/01 in dealer inventory with 8 miles on the odometer; 07/06 accident reported; 09/09 Salvage title"

I particularly like the fact that when we emailed the guy and asked if there was *anything* wrong with the car and why he was selling it he replied:

"No the car is like new from the dealer" and "We bought a new 2009 Fit"

OK, so now that we can abandon the pipe-dream of getting a nearly new Honda Fit for $12k, we're debating between the merits of buying a new one and finding a good used one (hopefully without more scary items on the Carfax report).

Am I right in thinking that the best we can hope for is a few hundred dollars off of MSRP?

THIS AD (http://www.lynnwoodhonda.com/coupons.aspx?template=vehicle4)claims $17k for an Automatic Fit Sport, but of course:

"Pricing is plus tax, license, documentation fee, and accessories."

Is that a good starting point for price comparisons?

And any thoughts on the new vs used debate on an automatic Honda Fit would be appreciated. We don't need a brand new car, but if cost of ownership over the next 5-10 years is not that much more, then shelling out some extra cash for a new one feels OK.

I will PM you what a sound price for one right now would be, however to answer your other questions:

For starters, Honda made sure that the FIt would be a low-cost entry level Honda...and built very little markup into the vehicle at all.....and when you look up what the invoice is, down from the MSRP....and add the 670.00 Destination to it on top of what people call holdback...the Fit has only wiggle room in the couple to few hundred dollar range from MSRP.

Since the Fit was introduced as the Re-design in 2009....personally I think you should stick with the 09....only because it has more features, a better residual value.....more powerfull and safer than the previous gen Fit was.

The 07 / 08 Fit we had was the same style as what has been out in Europe and Japan for over 5 Years...so it (07 / 08) is really old news.

In our opinion, cost of ownership will stay the same or be even a little less on the 09 because the residual value of them is higher than the previous generation.

LOL

I think I got a lead from you.....Im at Gunn Honda.

Was it for a San Marino Red EXL Coupe...with Wing Spoiler added?

If so I quoted you/her for an Automatic....and there are VERY FEW manuals in the state anyway.

Plus, the Auto gets better MPG's ...so hopefully you are ok with going the Auto Route...since the Manual you are looking for will cost more than what we are selling our auto for(from most dealers in this area anyway)

I also think that price you have there (it wasn't from us) doesnt included destination (which would add another 670.00 to that number you were quoted).

On Financing, we dont care how you buy it (negotiating stores are different)...however here...from what our customers tells us, we have better rates than what most are offering anyway....plus with the way we do business...we will treat you the same whether you pay cash or not.

I will PM you what I sent that person so you can see my pricing as well...or feel free to email me directly.

CB - first let me echo what others have said in thanking you for the time and effort you put into this thread - I hope that the goodwill you create with those of us who aren't in your geographical area will spill over and stir up some indirect business for you. I certainly will point any of my Texan friends at you next time they're car shopping.

Thanks for your advice about the new-2009 vs used-2007/8 Fit issue. That makes sense, and for us it really is an issue of cost of ownership - we can afford to buy a new one, we're just a little squeamish about spending that much money if we don't have to, and we don't feel like we "have to" have a new car. So maybe it comes down to whether we stumble onto a great deal from a very eager seller on a 2007 or 2008 (hopefully one that hasn't been totaled in its first week off the dealer's lot like the first one I posted about). But barring that it's starting to seem like a new one isn't such a bad idea.

The link I posted describes the $17k price (for a Fit Sport Automatic) as "plus tax, license, documentation fee, and accessories". I assume that means that the price includes the destination charge (as does the quote you sent me in your PM), but that they'll tack on a bit for "accessories" like floormats? Obviously I'll just ask them at some point - I just want to go in with as much information as I can.

The same dealership is part of the Costco Car Buying program - an earlier poster said that they didn't get much benefit out of this when shopping for a Fit. I wonder if that is still the case now that the 2009 has been out for a few months. I'll report if we learn anything on that front.

Thanks again for sharing your helpful insights.

Hey, I have a question....I have a good friend whose side airbags deployed after closing the passenger door on 08 Accord EX-L 4cyl. automatic his wife was actually in the car when it happened....they are making contact with the engineer in the east coast and I know there's another incident like this one in conneticut....

they bought the car brand new and is less than a year old. the dealer they bought the car, claims that the car was in an accident....but any honda techinican would know that....

why is it that they won't take the car and repair it.....if it happened to me, I would sue the honda dealer and the people working for the dealer....

he promises to make a complaint with every possible agencies there are.....They are driving their car with airbags folded by hand....it's visible from outside and ugly and dangerous

is there anyway to fix the car without less hassle by talking to the Honda Corp?
I would really appreciate some help...

Yikes!

Did they call their insurance company???

And I guess Im not quite understanding the part of the accident....was it in one, or is it just a technician saying it was in one?

You cant be driving a car around with deployed airbags....and although I have never heard of a case like this...it would seem the first people they should have called was their insurance company....and parked that car until someone from the insurance company told them what to do.

Unless the dealer did something to the car to cause this...then it really isnt a case of a dealer being it fault...moreso a design or engineering issue...so going after the dealer would probably be a dead end....unless the dealer did something to cause this to happen.

why is it that they won't take the car and repair it.....if it happened to me, I would sue the honda dealer and the people working for the dealer....

he promises to make a complaint with every possible agencies there are.....They are driving their car with airbags folded by hand....it's visible from outside and ugly and dangerous

is there anyway to fix the car without less hassle by talking to the Honda Corp?
I would really appreciate some help...

A pilot would work for you....or an Odyssey....but getting what you want Honda-Wise in your price range will come with what many consider to be high miles.

So if you really prefer a Honda...just prepare to find one that will have 70k+ miles on it...which would be no problem for most Honda's as long as they have been taken care of properly.

OK, we got the quotes from the Costco-buying-program dealer, who also happens to be the dealership running an "Internet Special Price" on a Fit Sport Automatic for $16995.

The "Costco Price" looks like it's basically $250 under MSRP for any trim level of Fit, so their "Internet Special" is an additional $535 off of the Costco price. The dealer said that they have a surplus of AT Sports right now, hence the additional discount.

So here's the quote we're getting for an AT Sport:

Price including destination charge: $16,995
Door Edge Guards (the only accessory they require): $99.95
Documentation Fee: $50
Sales Tax 8.9%: $1572.74
DMV Fees: $124.75
"Trauma Fee" :bounce: $2.50
-------------------------------------------------------
Total OTD Price: $18,844.94

Accessories we would want are floor mats ($153)
and Cargo cover ($210)

Others he suggested that we probably won't get are cargo tray ($101) and rear bumper applique ($148),

After we had talked about price for a while, when he printed up the OTD quote, he brought in the manager, who gave some indication/hint of price flexibility - talked about the end of the month coming up, said that sales were low this month and that they want to book as many as they can by Saturday, said that they would "bend over backwards" to get us into a car - of course he didn't come out and say they'd give us a lower price.

We were undecided about whether to go with Base or Sport, but if it's actually the case with this "special" pricing that the Sport will only be an extra $1000 or so, we'll buy the Sport. What we are now planning on doing is calling around to several dealerships in the area, including the guy we spoke to today, and saying "if you'll beat that price by [something like] $400, perhaps by throwing in floor mats and cargo cover instead of actually lowering the price, then we'll buy it from you today". (We're paying cash)

If no-one bites, we would go back to the dealer we spoke to today and see if he would throw in the cargo cover.

Does that seem reasonable? Any tips on more specific angles? At this point we're pretty satisfied with where things sit, and it's just a matter of seeing if we can get a couple/few hundred bucks savings.

Thanks for all the help you've already provided, and any more you might throw at us...

Well to be totally Honest (the only way I know how to be) the price he is giving you there is very good...and anyone who says they can do better is most likely lieing.

Also, from this side of the car buying process....nothing aggravates someone in my position more than a potential customer doing the "beat this and we will buy" game when they and I both already know that the price we (that dealer) is offering is one of if not the best around.

Plus they are going to know that no one is actually giving you a better price...because they (we) know how low our competitors are going to go anyway...and NO ONE is going to drop another 400.00 off of the price you alread have there because they CANT....and they know it.

So if you still appriciate my advice...save yourself and the guy you have been dealing with any more headaches or hassles and go buy that car....

Sure you may be able to get another 100.00 worth of "throw ins" but don't push it too much further....they are already making $0.00 on the car (I know because we have ours priced the same way)....the salesman may make 50.00 to 100.00 at most (divide that by the time he has already spent with you and is going to spend with you if you do purchase from him...and you will know what he is making per hour working for you.

Plus you are paying cash so there will be no revenue whatsoever on the finance side of things.

I'd like to know if this is a good deal:

I looking to buy a Certified Used 2005 Honda CR-V EX AWD w/ 21103 miles.

I am trading my 2004 Nissan Sentra with 32450 miles they are offering $5000 as a trade.

After all is said and done taxes, fees with Honda Care 7/100,000 + remote start I would be putting up $2000.00 in cash and financing 10,992 @ 5.9%. (approx. 212 a month/60)

I need the selling price and Taxes/Fees numbers to be able to give you a real answer...plus any remote start they put in that car will not be a Honda Product...therefore it will void many electrical warranties that the Warranty you are paying for would normally cover.

The DMV fees are about $100 or so.

Someone asked me a question the other day, and I wanted to get the Slickdealers opinions here on what they think...

If a company told you that in your car buying process....all you had to do was tell them:

1. What Type of cars you were looking for (truck, Car, SUV etc.)
2. Color, 2 or 4 door, Manual or Auto
3. Price Range / Monthly Payment Range
4. Time Frame
5. How you wanted to pay for it (finance, Cash, your bank etc...)
6. If financing, what your credit score was (Estimated)

And that they would do all the work for you....from locating the cars that matched what you wanted to negotiating the best price for it....and even offered to contact the dealership for you to help you finalize the deal....all before you have to step one foot in the store...
(Basically set it up to where you walk in, see and drive the car, sign the paperwork and drive off....no negotiating involved).....

This would include providing CARFAX reports for Used cars...and having provable quotes provided to you that shows they really did get you the best possible deal....

The only thing they would charge to do this is between 150.00 - 200.00.....half up front (non refundable) the other half after the deal is done......would you pay them to do it?

Yes, I would do something like that, especially with certain brands as they are known to be less than desirable to deal with. I know that some folks do use car brokers to obtain their vehicles while others use Costco and for many that is the best route to avoid the headache and aggrevation often times associated with buying a vehicle. Haven't seen any studies that show whether a person saves money going the broker route vs negotiating in person but having the option available would certainly be nice and make things a lot easier though that makes you wonder why a person couldn't just do the same thing themselves and save the broker fee.

Being a slickdealer, finding a good deal, and doing research is half the fun of buying stuff like cars for me anyway.

that being said, i think many people would go for this car buying service, however i think some would be skeptical of the final price, not really being sure that they got the 'best' deal. i would charge more of a fee based on how expensive the car is though, perhaps a percentage of the buying price?

Just google "honda care warranty" and go with the best quote.

Where are they getting the Remote Start from???

Honda Remote Starts can only be added to EXL and Above Trims...so if they are doing a remote start on an EX....the it would have to be aftermarket and that means there could be parts of any Manufactures warranty that are voided!!!

I guess I'm catching them at a bad time! =)

I just got off of the phone with them and they're saying that yes it is an aftermarket remote starter, however since I'm getting it through them that it won't void any warranty. They wouldn't recommend getting it outside of them b/c then it would probably void the warranty.

All I can say is tell them to put it in writing...because if you go to ANY Honda Dealer other than them to get work done...chances are the work would not be paid for by Honda.

On that number, ask them to give you a full drive out price (to include all taxes, fees, destination etc....) the post back here...and we will see just how blowout it is!

Chris

So 21,280 was the price that was all the fees from the dealer for a base Odyseey LX no options. The dealer is in NH (no sales Tax) and I am in Ma so I will be paying all Ma registry fees and taxes to the Mass RMV.

If that is the case....then I would have to say it looks ok...as long as it really does included Destination and Dealer Fees.

For those of you looking at New 2009 Accord and Civic models....there are APR Rates avilable right now that you can contact me for specifics on...and Honda has given dealerships a BIG reason to move as many of them as possible over the next month....

So If you are anywhere close to San Antonio...I would suggest contacting me...you will be pretty surprised as to what we have ours going for!

The Insight will also be on Dealerships Lots starting Next week...so contact me (or your local Dealership) now to set up appointment times to come view and test drive them.....

Good Luck to everyone....and let me know how I can help in any way.

Insights hit many dealerships lots today.....so call around to your local area stores (or if you are in texas, send me a PM) to set up an appointment time to check one out.

So far, on a personal note....Im pretty impressed. It gets up and goes just as good as the Fit does...and the ECON mode for increasing Fuel Economy is pretty nice. Size-wise....imagine a longer, wider, taller Fit...and thats what you have.

The materials are up to Honda Standards (thankfully) and the design should be well-recieved.

Hi CBondHonda,

Thanks for doing this. I'm looking to buy a 2009 CR-V 2WD EX with the following:

Automatic Transmission
Urban Titanium Metallic / Black Fabric
Selected Accessories: Auto Day/night Mirror Attachment, Auto Day/Night Mirror with Compass, Hood Air Deflector, Running Boards, Roof Rack, Remote Engine Start Attachment, Remote Engine Starter System

The lowest out-the-door price I've gotten is $23,968.05.

Is this a good price?

Just to give an update... this earlier deal fell through partly because the dealership lied to me about what colors they had available and partly because I wanted a 4WD instead of a 2WD and they quoted me too much for it. So instead, I had the best experience ever buying my new car at DCH Kay Honda dealership in NJ. I got the best price around there and everyone was friendly and nice as can be.

My thoughts are there is a reason he wont budge,...thats a Great Deal....and part of getting a great deal is knowing one when you see it....

Even if that is car price only....I would jump on it...

Is it a Certified Used, or just a Demo Model being sold as new?

Either way....go get it if you can!

Just wanted to throw in my info to prospective buyers. I bought a red CRV EX-L last year for the amount equivalent to the invoice price incl of all taxes, fees etc sometime in Mar, i think. Of course at that time, there were no discounts that were being given. I did a lot of store visits and internet shopping before finally settling on Joyce Honda, Morris Plains, NJ. They had the color I needed in stock and had the best price (and they price matched). Very good experience and I didn't have sleazy salesmen trying to push options or any other stuff.

Looking at a 2009 Odyssey EX-L w/DVD. Currently I have a quote for ~$29K + T&L. I was really hoping to see if I could get a EX-L w/DVD and NAV for around this same price. From what I can find this is a good deal as is but does anyone know if I can push the boundary further or have I tapped it out with about $6K off sticker. I am in no hurry with 60 days left on my lease but would like to get this over with soon.

So I would have to advise take it as you can now....unless you want to roll the dice and see if things change on June 1....

How are the incentives for May? Civic, Accord, CRV.

Any current financing deals? TIA!

Most everything basically stayed the same....except the Accord and Civic models will not be as heavily pushed this month, in turn the New Big Push is on Odyssey and Pilot models.

One thing many people need to know, is DO NOT WAIT until the summer to think you will be getting a better deal.

Because of cutbacks in production...many dealers - especially in larger markets - are going to have a MAJOR inventory issue by the time August rolls around.

What do I mean by that?

Well.....for instance - some hgiher volume stores sell on average 400-500 cars a month…..and have right at 500 - 700 vehicles on the lot right now….but until AUGUST / SEPTEMBER - they are only getting 130 MORE cars than what they have on the ground right now….so you can see, it looks like by the middle to end of summer…many dealers will be running out of things to sell.

This is because Honda scaled back production on ALL vehicles pretty drastically….

Once that happens, and supply dries up - demand will of course be higher, and prices will do the same.

So get in while the getting is good!

Hi, i was at the dealership today and negotiating a 09 fit and an 09 civic

for the 09 fit sport, i got 16329.. i BELIEVE this was the OTD price, although the salesperson was a bit unclear. if it is OTD, would this be a good price? he threw out 16000 (since i am buying 2 cars) although he was a bit hesitant and said it may not work. again, not sure if he meant OTD price on that either.

for the 09 civic ex (non-navi), he gave me 18385 OTD. can i do better than this?

i believe the fit has 500 dolars in manufactor's incentives, and the civic, 1000 in manufactuers incentives. i also used the fact that im buying 2 cars as a bargaining chip.

You are right, it was the sell price.

However, I decided to buy another Civic instead of a Fit.

This was the lowest offer I got, and will be meeting with the salesperson on Saturday to complete the deal.

2009 Civic EX: 17496.00 + TTL (quoted 19471.22 OTD)
2009 Civic LX-S: 16378.00 + TTL (quoted 18235.80 OTD)

I think I did pretty good.

I am located in So Cal (Long Beach). Thanks in advance for your help!

Sorry about that!

The only advice I can give - and this goes for ANYONE looking at ANY Honda model - especially when it comes to the cars and small SUV's.....is that you REALLY need to start or actually purchase well before the Clunker Program goes into effect.

I already have upwards of 30 People holding for just that reason - and that is just MY customers - not to mention every one else in all other states.

Once those vouchers go out - and you can quote me on this - most Honda Dealers will have LITTLE TO NO INVENTORY left within 60 days of the program starting.

So the sooner you make a move, the larger the selection and lower the price will be.

Thanks for the advice. Do you know when the vouchers are coming out? I've heard of the program, but that's the extent of my knowledge on it...

Depending on your area - and what is available there - will govern what your local dealers are doing - but the PM I sent should be a number to use as a benchmark (what we have them for)
