DO NOT Save any of my data.
If you prefer to save and protect the information you’ve entered into this program yourself, select this option. With this option you will have to re-enter your information every time you return to the program. By following the instructions & tips below, you will be able to download a backup of your document data to your personal computer and then reload or IMPORT it when you need to. However, please carefully and completely read this page before you elect to use this method instead of the first so that you have a full understanding of what to expect if you assume this responsibility yourself.
This “Do-It-Yourself” method of saving your data will prevent the program from saving any of your document data on the Ultimate Protection Portfolio secure server. You will then be personally responsible for saving and storing your data if you wish to save it at all.
Instructions & Tips For Saving Your Data Yourself
1. Change the automatic “Save & Protect” feature to option C by following these steps:
* Make sure you are logged into the Ultimate Protection Portfolio/Will & Trust Kit.
* Click on the “Edit Profile” link at the top of any page.
* Under “Save & Protect Your Data”, check to see which option is selected A, B, or C.
* If the selection is C, the “Save & Protect” function is currently NOT saving any of your document data—you are done.
* If the selection is A or B, click on the ‘Change Setting’ button.
* Change your selection to option C and click the ‘Continue’ button. The “Save & Protect” feature should now be OFF.
2. Once you have turned the automatic saving feature to option C, this program will no longer store any of your document data.
3. If you wish to save your data, you will have to EXPORT BEFORE YOU EXIT the site. If you do not perform this export before you exit the site, your data will be lost.
4. Every time you visit this web site and make changes, you will need to perform the EXPORT if you wish to save those data changes.
5. If you return to the web site at a later date and have previously performed an EXPORT of data, you can IMPORT that data back into the system so that all your information will be reloaded.
6. If you plan to import data, you need to make sure you store the exported data in an area on your computer where you can find it again. Likewise, if you export data multiple times and save each data export separately on your computer, you will need to make sure you are importing the correct data file when you go through that process.

i got this the last time it was free, but haven't used it yet. but i will be setting up my will very soon. my question for those who have used it, are these legal documents when you finish filling out the information? does it need to be notarized? is it solid enough to avoid seeing a lawyer?
as confusing as trusts are i don't know that i'd trust suze to do it, but i imagine the will would be fairly easy to set up.

Unfortunatally, most (if not all) of the will kits leave out quite a bit. It's a good idea to start with, but you really need to have someone who knows what they are doing make sure that it will hold up in a court of law.

Strictly on-line. But come on, let's use our heads. You can complete all the forms with made up names, SS and DOB and print the forms. Then type them back into your PC with the correct info. That is not too big of a deal if you think the will and trust are a good idea.

Rocketboy_X is absolutely right. Not all jurisdictions recognize holographic wills (i.e. those that you write yourself). For those states that do recognize them, they need to be handwritten by the testator(s). Therefore, be REALLY skeptical of a form will that you print out with mere blanks to fill in. Getting the will properly witnessed and notarized helps, but if your will gets contested it will be a big showdown in probate court.
You may want to ask yourself how much it is really worth for you to ensure your property is distributed the way you want it to be when you pass. -But thats my two cents. :shake:

well said
if you own a home and have more than one (potential) beneficiary, you're equally likely to avoid probate by having something hand-written, signed, and notarized

According to her bio on the website:
[Suze] Orman, a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional, directed the Suze Orman Financial Group from 1987-1997, served as Vice President of Investments for Prudential Bache Securities from 1983-87, and from 1980-83 was an Account Executive at Merrill Lynch. Prior to that, she worked as a waitress at the Buttercup Bakery in Berkeley, California from 1973-80.
So, apparently more qualified than you.

I'm with you. If you can stomach 5 minutes of watching her, count how many times she says FICO and then multiply that by 1 million = her annual contract by the FICO knuckleheads. She doesn't blurt that out though does she? :sleepy:

You did my work for me :)
So let me touch on a few things that have been bothering me here:
1) I can not stand Suze Orman.
2) This is a deal for people who do not have a will and do not have the money to spend yet.
3) We "trust" our social security number with a lot of places.
A) Our employers for example may store our information in a small filebox, but hopefully a safe...maybe it is in a file cabinet that is left open or in the back of a portable trailer.
B) Our cell phone company or other creditor has this information, especially the person who signed us up for the account...maybe reading it aloud to them why someone else is in the store.
C) Our banks, investment firms and etc. have the number.
D) The government, Federal and state, have the information. Our SSN is sent through the mail here and is provided to agents who can check my information. At least my SSN is not on my pilots license (actually just a plastic pilot certificate) nor on my driver's license.
4) What scares me the most is giving the SSN to someone with whom I can not see their face, know their name, or know where they are located...
Though I still say this deal is hot.

E) Some universities/colleges assign student ID numbers to be the student's social security number by default.
My entire ss number was printed on the student ID card that was issued to me from my local university.

Alright guys, coming from the legal field and a degree in trusts and wealth management and a masters, here's my 2 cents.
1) Yes this can supplement a will to an extent. Normally anything found with your personal effects can be deemed as a legal document and would dictate the allocation and distribution of your assets. With that said.....
HOWEVER, if this is the route you decide to go, please talk to an attorney within your state, as each state's laws vary accordingly. Also it's a great idea to see an attorney for a few reasons.
- they will have on file (evidence) that you were not coerced to write said will
- that you are of sound mind of the time of the will (which means a lot)
- and they can make sure the legal language is iron clad
Without even one of these then a relative/someone can show up when you die and challenge your "will" which will get your executor/family tied up in court leading to court costs and even possibly missing some crucial dates that an executor or trustee needs to meet to avoid certain taxes and creditors of your estate.
*small note* a living trust can avoid probate of your estate (again according to state laws, but is generally true)
2) If you are going to go down the trust path with these documents, please go to your favorite financial institution/bank. And ask to speak to a trust officer. They'll be able to take the time to explain everything to you in more detail than I can here.
ASK about a LIVING TRUST, it's a great thing. On top of that the trust can continue to control/distribute your assets after you die, essentially acting as a will for your estate.
For example if your son spends money like it grows on trees, then instead of giving him the car/house/money. A living trust could put this into an account that would be invested and he could either collect the interest or the interest would pay his bills etc.
Another plus for having a trust officer help you is that when you die you can name your trustee as executor. So that way your family won't have to worry about handling finances in a time when they're mourning. The trustee will work with the family and make sure the funeral gets set up and that all the proper steps are taking as far as your estate goes. Including protecting and collecting your assets as well as notifying creditors properly.
Just a few things to chew on, hope they help someone ;)

She's a hell of a lot more than a "TV personality". Try doing some research first. She is a licensed financial planner in almost every state amongst other credentials. Google it and then come back...
lol it doesn't mean a lot to be a licensed financial planner, you need more accreditation(s) than that.

I just did it all online. The thing I like about it most is that you can save each and every file to your PC as a pdf. When you are done filling in the info click on view and then click on "final" once you do that it gives you the option to print or save. Once you save it as a PDF, you can always go back and edit it if you want to. Then just reprint. Of course you will need to have it signed, witnessed and notarized again, but still...
Everything has to be printed out, signed, notarized and witnessed to be legal. But I did check with a lawyer here in MA and he said it all looks legit to him. Good enough for me.
TY OP!!! Repped!!! X2
Hubby and I have been talking about this for a long time and really couldn't afford to spend the money to have it done by a lawyer. As I said though, I was able to have this looked at by a lawyer in my state, MA.... he said it was all good as long as it is signed, witnessed and notarized.
Edited to add: sorry won't let me rep you. Thanks soooo much tho.... will try to give you reps another time. This was an awesome find!!!! TYVM!!!

Not sure I would feel comfortable giving away all my personal info such as SS#, driver's license #, DOB, etc.
Seems like you could just put in dummy numbers when asked for personal info, then copy and paste the final will/trust into, say, a Word document and then insert the correct SSN, DL#, DOB, etc.?

I saw this on the Suze Orman show last night and I don't see it posted so here it is:
Go to www.suzeorman.com
Click on: Will and Trust Kit on the left hand side
Click on: Gift Code
Enter in: people first
It will give you a code you can use right away to start your will and trust kit, OR you can save the code for later, when you are ready. Make sure to copy down the website to return to as well, since it looks different from the main site.

Hi,
I did a search on SD and didn't find anything about this. Please be patient if this was already posted.
Hope people can take advantage of this free offer.
Insurance Kit
I’m not 100% sure of what all this kit provides you, but it appears to be some sort of questionnaire which helps determine your insurance needs. I’ll try it out myself shortly. From the site:
This one-of-a-kind program provides you and your family with an instant, on-line evaluation of your insurance needs. Suze’s Insurance Kit provides easy to understand, step-by-step advice to help you determine if you have the right coverage in place for all the important areas of your life.
It also includes a disaster simulator and a online home inventory tracker which can store photos and receipts in case of an insurance claim.
To get your free activation code, visit this page (https://www.suzeormaninsurance.com/account/giftcode/) and enter the following gift code: “people first“.

I am an attorney as well and agree with LiquidGlass. Check with a local attorney before relying on this type of will.
As someone who's FIL bought this and didn't even own a computer :rofl2: and I asked him "what ya gonna do with that CD" :lmao: I highly agree  He was interested in the Trust aspect - so I took that CD and put it thru my computer and ran his info through it. Nada :nono2: would I ever allow this as a legal, binding document to hold up. It's ambiguous in it's wording. We had Will's done previously, so I know how a Will should read, at least in my own State - there is too much room for error in the way this is set up, imho.
We took my FIL to an Attorney to have several legal documents reviewed and changed, rather than rely on this  Money spent and peace of mind, was better than this.

Would it be too off-topic to talk about Suze? She seems like a nice person, but she comes across as so horribly fake that it really is too disturbing to watch her on a regular basis.
Yes, it's OT but more importantly who cares what your personal taste is? Don't want to watch her? OK, don't.
