Go back to the old layout. This one hurts my eyes especially trying to read the deals on the right side.
Too much goin on...simple is always better

What old layout, how is the current one too busy, and you may want to change your wording to something like 'does anyone else think...' otherwise you're just a guy with 11 posts telling the webmaster to change the layout for your convenience.

Yeah its new! I dunno if I like it. I'll get used to it though. Colors are kinda bright!

Looks pretty much the same for me, except the Slick Deals take up more of the page now...
I only visit the homepage once in a blue moon though, so I'm probably overlooking a major change.

# of posts i have don't mean a thing. I have been viewing this site for years and I'm simply stating that I do not like the flashy look of the new page.
Also, the forum title is "Site Suggestions & Problems". Hence my reasoning for submitting this post here. It was meant to be an opinion NOT an inquiry of everyones thoughts.
Thank you.

No, I know. I just thought you were being a bit straightforward. Let's see if others agree.
I should visit the main page more...

LoL. Yes, I also find the front-page not as good... It doesn't seem as professional to me... B/C it seems like all the deals are skewed over so far if the window is set to full screen. If I shrink it it looks better, but its a pain. And the bold lettering makes it kind of hard to read b/c its so scrunched in... But just my .02

no worries mate. :)
....
I dont mind the color changing and the underlining of links but I think the shading is a bit too much. Every alternating link is shaded already and when you rollover one you introduce another shade.
The hot topics hurt my eyes because they are bold. If they werent it would be alright I suppose.
Sorry for sounding demanding I was just pissed because of a recent NCAA game.

how about a pulldown tab to change the skin to whatever skin you prefer?

I personally like it a bit better, though it makes the headlines look really short. I honestly almost never go to the front page, between RSS and the forums.
The one thing I really don't like is that the Slickdeals.net logo at the top-left of the forums now points to the forums index, not the front page.
I'm not really thrilled about it. I think that a new layout is great, but it is definitely too bright, I liked the chill look before with the easy to read text. This is far too bright and I can't read the text at all.
Also, the biggest problem for me is that it's rendering like crap in Safari on the Mac. If I load up Firefox, it looks good but on Safari, it barely even loads the page correctly. Hopefully this can be fixed over time, I'm not really a fan of Firefox on the Mac.
My vote is to go back to the old homepage.

skins won't happen, every custom coding thing mr sd has implemented needs to be redone for each skin.
aluvus>never relized you can click the logo, i have the front page bookmarked, so end up clicking it myself, easier to click that than home then click logo to go back. new trick i learned.
as to the new appearence, just take awhile to get used to it. people didn't like the vb switch at first, now its much much nicer IMO.

I noticed that too about the logo, but if you are in any of the other categories like "New Coupons" and "Expiring Soon", you end up on the front page.
Programmer error, perhaps?

The center table with the featured slick deals is too wide. With the test alignment, the page looks cluttered on the left and bare on the right. I think the old layout was fine, minus the colors. The new blue look is much cleaner IMO.
old one was better and easier to read

Using Firefox, the front page looks awful. I jumped to my MAC and with Safari, it actually looks really good. I'm assuming IE looks fine as well.
My guess is, those with complaints are using Firefox?

I believe the new layout wasn't complete when the original comments were made.
Not crazy bout the new look either..

Works fine here in both Firefox 1.0.2 Mac and Safari 1.2.4. I like that the center column is full width now, so you can see more of the Latest Deals at once. Barely noticed the gradients underneath each day, or the new colors. Still easy to read, IMO. No complaints at all.

I preferred the look of the previous main page. IMHO, there's a lot of empty white space inherent in the new design:

Not really, if the deal is long, then it's good b/c it will just fit in one line.

?
the old layout was confined to about 75% of the available space. if anything, the new one makes more use of the space available, making it easier to see the whole page at once.

It makes one wonder, "What am I missing, shouldn't there be something here, did they forget something?"
Also, one can't focus on one spot and see the whole page, one's eyes have to go back and forth a lot more when trying to do a quick visual scan of the page.

Looks like the bug in Safari is fixed up, page displays fine now. I don't know, I can get used to it, it's just sad to come to a SlickDeals that isn't the same. :(

I prefer the old layout as well; the new one doesn't render well in gecko based browsers (Mozilla, Firefox, Galeon, etc.) and although Safari apparently works it doesn't look good in Konqueror either (both are KHTML based). I am using a laptop with a 1400x1050 display and none of the deal descriptions reach halfway across the screen. Under IE, it looks much better, but given the choice I'd never ever use IE (plus it doesn't help those of us who use Linux).

I really don't like the new layout of the site. All the links for the deals are now on the far left side of the screen when it looked a lot neater when it was centered.
Go back to the old layout!

Another vote for it looks great.
I wish it stretched to fill the screen in firefox like it does in IE, but no worries :bounce:

white space, in moderate amounts, is good for providing visual delineations between content areas.
when viewing with either a 14.1" laptop display or 17" lcd the page looks fine to me - there is less need for scrolling (which tends to be annoying on a laptop), and the titles line up nicely for an up-and-down scan of the deals from the last few days.
to each his own, i say.

We're simply trying to help make the place better by saying that there is too much deadspace in the new design. The key to good web dev is to have the site look good in all resolutions. The very fact that there are so many complaints with it should be an indication that something is wrong.

In regards to the "dead space" comments, I personally feel it does two things. First off it helps separate the Latest Deals from the Hot Topics on the right hand side of the screen. For me, it is much easier now to quickly scan down the list of deals without being distracted by clutter on both sides. The space helps direct and focus me where I should be.
The second part, which is more important in my opinion, is that it allows for more space further down. Making the front page wider gives more room for the specific deal information, thus resulting in a much more legible layout. In addition it also results in less vertical scroll.
Example 1 (http://img102.exs.cx/img102/5679/space07ze.gif) & Example 2 (http://img111.exs.cx/img111/3928/space17ud.gif)
Really I don't know what the big deal is, if in anything it makes it easier to read. I noticed a comment on the rollover.. it simply shows you which item is selected, you don't have to roll over anything.
People are just a little too nit picky me thinks.

The new layout is fine with me, but the only problem that I see on my screen is when I click a Bookmark link from the main page to jump down to the deal details it jumps fine, then about 2 seconds later the page jumps back to the top, then immediately back down to the deal details. Probably just a bookmark problem, but wanted to post it for someone to check out. It drives me crazy after a few clicks on the main page...
Just checked into this problem more and it's loading a link to resellerratings.com I am not sure if this is from the site, or I have been hijacked. I am checking my system now to figure out if it's this @#$ computer.
