View Full Version : Survey Sub-Forum Feedback Thread

Please give us your feedback on this forum. What you would like to see, additional rules, ideas, suggestions, etc.
At this time, we don't have icons (obviously, huh?). We'll cross that bridge when the time comes. IMO, I don't think we need an icon for each individual company. That would get things cluttered fast. But if you have ideas for icons, let us know or post them below.

So far, the only one should be know about is Pinecone. With that said, if people read the title, which directs to the first post, you would know not to link to Pinecone URLs.

Oh and BZZ really isnt a survey company either. They have polls occasionally to decide who gets into a campaign . I wouldnt put Houseparty or In Home Product Testing either.
They arent survey companies they are qualifiers to join their community alot of the time.

Yea I was just thinking the same thing. I don't consider BzzAgent a survey company, as they don't require you to do anything. They like you too but it's not required.
Thats going to be one of the hardest things is what is determined as surveys or not. Like One2one network is similar to BzzAgent. They send a product.
Oh also I think Beta tests should be considered over here, but thats up to the Mods and everyone. Like Centercode for example, and other betas where you have to qualify.:dontknow:

I just removed Bzz back to Freebies. Let me know if there are any others.

How do we feel about posts like this?

Technically its a Panel. I know a few don't have the survey icon, so they might get missed.

Questionaires to join a community or panel shouldnt be in surveys.

I don't think that is a survey because that company is looking for feedback on General Mills products. If GMs did a whole range of different types of surveys (not just GMs produts) for different target groups then it would be different.

I disagree on that post. They offer a number of different products to different target groups. Unlike the GMs example, that company offers many different products from different companies to be tested.
Not to mention, a lot of the survey companies in this sub-forum offer PTs. I don't think it will be easy to decided which PT should be in Freebies Vs. Surveys.
Does that make sense?

But then again, not every company pays you for a survey.
I'll have to talk with the other mods to get their opinions. Like anything else new, there will be kinks to work out.

I think this is wonderful. I think the survey's will be easier to keep up with this way. Although, I think there is another way to help organize things even better.
You could have a sub-forum named something like (see below)
1.Work From Home & Things
a. Survey's
b. BzzAgent, One2One type listings.
c. Focus groups
d. List places that earn you points for gift cards....like Boomertown, My points,Inbox Dollars, ect.
If someone finds a focus group listing then put it under focus groups, ect.
Leave the rest of the freebies section to other freebies. IE, makeup samples, totes, shampoo samples, shirts, ect.
Does that make any sense? I need more coffee. Anywho, just my 2cents.

If you need some new icons maybe sweepstake entry for survey and an icon for the word local indicating that its not a national countrywide one. Yes the Words FG for focus group.

I disagree with that though. I mean it even has "survey" as a user tag. And you need to qualify in order to get a PT. If that's the case, then my post on "Glamspotters", and half the other surveys dont belong here either.
Anything you need to "quailfy" for or take a survey, is still considered a survey. Either they all are or aren't. I would also like clarification on this.
As far as which PT's should be allowed in Freebies Vs. Surveys, either they ALL should, or shouldn't.
looking further, SheSpeaks doesnt belong here, and neither does the Allure thread either. They both are for PT's, so they should all be in one place. Or have a tag for PT's.

Then, what would we do about the unofficial threads for 1 specific company? IIRC, they don't always have one form of payment. Sometimes GCs, or cash, or sweepstakes entries, etc.

Thank you Kel_be and Mr. SD! I really like it and appreciate all of your efforts
and hard work. It's like an early Christmas present.
Thank you for opening up the Survey area.
A few comments -
I like the idea of icons for payment type - but can see where it would be a problem for multiple options of payment.
I like the idea of a list of companies that should never be posted - makes it easier for the new folks...and those who may not remember that kind of thing.
I disagree about BzzAgent, etc not being included here - You have to do something (answer questions, write a review) to continue to get the products. It is not strictly free...which is part of why the surveys were moved out, right?

I had a hard time finding the one above searched freebies, searched surveys, then finally did a total search lo and behold it is in deal talk.... I rarely go to dealtalk :(
I agree with the idea about icons on payment types, GiftCards, Checks, Paypal, and maybe for the ones that offer multiple options do a Points icon? Since technically your getting points and can redeem for gift cards/checks/stuff/paypal. Make sense?
Also maybe post a sticky in the Freebies forum about the Survey forum?
Hrmm what else....
Maybe make it Survey-Studies-Panels-Groups
That way all the stuff you have to be a part of goes here.
Having House Party, Bzz Agent, Allure Panel, Pssst Panel, Survey Spot, Yale Studies etc. all in one place and strictly Freebies (ie fill this form out get x) in the freebies section?
Just my 2 cents, I don't want to see the Survey forum become like magazines where there won't be posts for days.

I'd like to see the "unofficial" and the "official" removed from master threads' titles,
so that they just say the survey company name and any other pertinent info
like

Please remember that all dead/closed/expired offers go to Deal Talk. That is mainly why that forum was created.
When I click on the link for the survey I get the follow:
This survey has expired.
That is why that panel is in DT.
As I said before, we still have to work the bugs out. Mr SD & I mass moved all of the survey icons. But some panels and surveys were posted under different icons such as food, music, money, etc. So if you find any posts that you believe belong here, please Mod Alert them!

Ok, Im confused? So have we decided BzzAgent is a survey now?
They dont require you to report bzz, it is optional and the products they send are current most the time. They do have surveys, but you don't need to do them.
Im just curious as to what is going to be put in here now?
Also what about Beta testing, is that going to be over here too? I for one think it should.
I don't really care as to what is put over in this new sub-forum, as long as it's consistent and not sometimes similar things get different rules.

I received a number of MAs & PMs about this. At this time, I'm going to get more mod opinions & go from there. I personally think Bzz should be in this sub-forum, but I'm going to get other opinions.

I think this is a good place for Beta Testing. It's just like Product Testing (PT), right??
As I said before, we don't have anything written in B&W, what belongs here & what doesn't. And I don't mind the feedback if you think something does not belong here. But like Bzz, it's a toughie.
Just remember that this is still the Freebies forum. This area is just an individualized portion of the main forum.
Side Note to people who have suggested other sub-forums:
**Be aware that creating a sub forum can take a looong time. I've been working on try to start a Survey sub-forum for about 18+ months; getting Mr. SD's ok, legal funness associated with surveys, rules, etc. It's not as easy or fast as it appears.

Yea Beta Testing to me is pretty much like PT's. Like I mentioned before, it doesnt matter much to me as long as its consistent across the board.
I think any Panel, Group, Survey Site, Beta Site should be in here. I mean basically anything that isn't just a straight out freebie and there is some work involved.
BzzAgent is a tough one. Because although you're not require to do a survey, you are still required to sign up, and maintain an account. Which would make it fit in either group. But if SheSpeaks and other sites like that are going to be here, then maybe BzzAgent should be too.
I mean it's hard, not everyone is going to be happy with the changes right away. But just remember we all wanted a survey sub-forum, so we all need to have an open mind. Nothings going to be perfect over night.
I'm just glad we finally got a suvery sub-forum.:whee:

I noticed something else that has changed. All the posts that are for coupons for free products are being moved to the coupon forum. If the items is free, I think it should stay in the freebie section. It will just get lost in all of the posts for cents-off coupons.
I used to be able to just check the freebies section. Now, I have to check freebies, surveys, and coupons to find all the freebies.
Just my opinion. I hate to complain because I love SD so much. I'm sure I'll get used to the changes eventually.

Please give us your feedback on this forum. What you would like to see, additional rules, ideas, suggestions, etc.
I love the forum but like to see less restrictions on the rules.
Many survey sites use some of the dumbest people to create surveys. They think long and repetitious surveys help them get better answers. I'd like to see us allowed to talk, in general, about the stupidity involved with surveys today.
Maybe it will wake up the survey companies.

I think in most cases after the first few survey questions, people can figure out for themselves what the PT is for. So I don't understand what it would matter if people post what the PT is after taking the survey? Just as long as hints are not given to say how to qualify, which most people do not. At least it's not a problem in any of the survey threads I frequent.

The issue is people making up BS answers to qualify based on knowing what the PT is for. I thought I made it clear using an analogy. Then I having actually got invited to take this survey get 20 mins into it to find that its now FULL because someone had posted the survey on slickdeals 20 mins before I opened the email.
Ok say they need 5000 people to answer questions for this survey. They send out 25000 invites because they know only 20% will respond to the emails in a 'normal' situation' The response rate will be much higher and the results will be skewed because someone decided to post in the Title what the survey was for. Its fine if the survey says this is a survey about Corrective Eyewear and and we are looking for females 20-45 and if you dont fit the criteria feel free to invite your friends and familly.
I have yet to see a surveyspot survey for example that says that though even giving the survey ID number and telling people its for a PT is wrong IMHO. People will make up that they use products so they can get $50 and the survey responses are rushed through without reading them so they dont even get accurate results.

Something needs to be done with all of the Garb panel "heads up" threads. They keep being re-created over and over every time there is a new survey, instead of all being kept in one "Offical Garb Panel" thread. Nothing in the titles of these threads that keep being created are unique to the survey it's referring to, so people keep posting things in the wrong thread. I tried creating an offical Garb Panel thread a few days ago and it just got lumped into one of the "heads up" threads, even though my post was regarding a totally different survey than that thread referred to. Thanks!

I agree. But I think there should be an "Official Thread" for all of these survey places (not only garb) but also Yale studies, ULCA, Synovate, Mindfield, etc. I think if there's one for each company then most people will post in that thread unless it's someone who doesn't know any better. People seem to post in the SS, Stanford, Greenfield, Pinecone, etc for heads up so if there was a "Official Thread" for the others I think they would post in them also. And wouldn't be as many single threads started! Just my opinion:D

I'll be devil's advocate here - I truly do not have time to read every Official/Master survey thread -
especially given how much chat goes on in them. :ermm:
I TRULY appreciate a separate post when there is a new survey for places like GARB
or the University surveys or survey companies that don't email or that fill up so fast.
For things like surveyspot, where I can follow my own email,
putting them all in one thread is fine,
better even, as I can't follow those by being on SD very well, anyway.
just my opinion.
IDEAL to me would be:
New surveys for places that don't send emails out well, Alerts, would get a new thread...
THEN - 2 days later that alert thread would merge into the master for the sponsor survey company.
but that would be alot of organizational work, ... so, I know more difficult than is probable.

A lot of survey companies (i.e. Garb Panel, some of University sites, Glamspotters) don't always send out emails, but if you log in to your account a survey will be there. So "heads ups" are always nice.

Dont do Glamspotters but all the others send me emails. Which even if I answer the email once Ive got it, the thing is full because someone decided to post it on SD 5 mins earlier. So ive wasted my time trying to qualify for something thats already full. I really wish these companies would make the surveys invite only.
They would get more honest answers and maintain the integrity of the study that way.

It's nice to have a "Heads Up" but when there's 3 or 4 heads up from the same company on the first page it's cluttered. Which is why heads up or official threads for each company would be nice. I personally check my homepages on the survey sites each day to see if there's anything new (because I know they don't always send emails out) and I wouldn't mind scanning through a few pages of chit chat in a official or heads up thread to see if there's anything I missed.

Is there a way to make a sticky post on the following, so that we don't have to search for the thread when a survey shows up:
1. Stanford GSB Studies
2. UCLA Anderson
3. Yale

You can either do a personal sticky - when you are on the thread, click "thread tools" to the right towards the top and "stick the thread to the top"
Another option is to go to thread tools and "subscribe to this thread" - that will send you an email whenever there is anything new, as well as put the thread in your User CP when there is anything in the thread new to you.

I guess I expect the rules for the survey subForum to be similar to any other forum on SD (besides the lounge),
that threads are to be about an offer.
The Survey subForum seems to get a fair amount of threads wanting to introduce discussion, rather than be about an available survey, or survey master thread.
In other SD forums, discussion/chat threads get moved to Deal Talk or the lounge, depending on the content.
Would a stickied opinion, question, general survey discussion thread tidy up the Survey subForum by keeping the main area's threads to offers?
:dontknow:

The Blah threads don't really bother me and they give you some insight to a problem that will be seen by potentially more informed persons than moving it into DealTalk. I'm not going to bother advising someone about a survey in the Deal Talk. I don't normally bother with that area.

Should we have a stickied master thread that is a list of survey companies ?
(with NO discussion allowed in it)
just a thought - we do have a couple of master threads with surveys in them:

Hey I'm new to SD, and found this section and LOVE it. I think though it would be SOOO helpful to have a master list at the top with abbreviations, tips for getting started, companies that are reputable, etc.
For example, I recently signed up for like 6 college pshycology survey sites. I would love a reference guide that tells me how they pay, if they send emails or if I need to log in, payment methods, types of surveys, etc.
Also, I have done survey sites quite a bit, and I just got into mystery shopping (is that in this sub forum) but I don't know anything about all those product testing websites or focus groups (besides just BzzAgent). Others may only know about pt'ing and not surveys. Anyways, so basic description would be awesome!
As for icons - why not just the sub categories:
Surveys
Product Testing
Focus Groups
Points Rewards (Swagbucks and such)
And then if you have a few companies who are ALWAYS up there, you could do tags for a few of them?
ETA - PP who mentioned the list of surveys, when I click on that link it is totally overwhelming to me. Maybe it could be broken down by type better:
Surveys:
Sweepstakes:
Paid:
Points:
then under them let people * ones that have been good for them maybe? And resort by # of *'s

What is the point of having heads up threads if "REPOSTS" cannot be merged into that thread. If someone posts in a heads up thread then 10-15 minutes later someone else starts a new thread for the same thing it's a repost correct?
People clutter "surveys" up instead of posting in the heads up threads (JUST FOR REP POINTS).
Thread after thread of UCLA, YALE, ETC (Why can they not be combined into one like Stanford?
Annoying........IMO
LMAO ~~ Maybe i should go sit in the heads up threads and wait for people to give a "heads up" then run and go repost it by creating a new thread "FOR REP POINTS OF COURSE".................

BeBe2008, So-called "official" threads are created by our members, and not by the admins or moderators. We do not force people to post all surveys in them, otherwise alot of good surveys might get buried or lost within those threads as they can move quite quickly. Not everyone follows those "official" threads, which is why we do not merge into "official" or "master" threads anywhere in the SD forums. I hope this has helped to answer your question :)

Hey guys...first time posting here as I usualy just read, learn and keep on moving, but I do have a quandry. I often times find school realated surveys, which are mostly chance studies, but I know some folks like them and some don't. Should I just have one thread title School Chance Surveys and just post them all there? I hate that I spend the time to post them, but they seem to get lost after an hour or so. The quicker these student fill thier quota the quicker they can finish thesis and what not and hand out GC. That's the way I see it any way. I'm still a newbie, so teach on mighty Moderator yogas!!!

I have it stickied to the top along with some other official threads so they are easy to find.

About a year and a half ago (maybe longer), I tried to set up single threads for each of the main survey companies. I personally hate the clutter of a million individual posts. The mods asked me to name them as "unofficial" threads, so I did.
About 9 months ago I took a break from SD for severa months. When I came back, some of the "unofficial" threads died out and got archived. This past week I started a few of them back up again. There are still a bunch of companies left that I want to start a single thread for, but I'm not going to make a new thread without something to post in it right away...so I'm just waiting for a PT or FG from them and then I'll start a few more threads.

That's what I am trying to do, but your posts are not exactly clear to me. "A 73 page thread". Which thread? Links would clarify things. Are you specifically talking about the survey forum, which is what this thread is regarding? This thread is not about other parts of the site.

Hi Intrepid :) Feel free to PM me with the thread in question, and I will take a look. But as a general rule of thumb, telling people how to qualify for a survey in any fashion is a big "no no" and needs to be removed.
