I am fairly new to the forum (although I have browsed slickdeals for YEARS, and didn't even know about the forums until about a year ago, and still only read and didn't contribute), so if this question is beating a dead horse, please chalk it up to me being new, not trying to be a jerk...

I saw a lot of the thread-crapping of Jilla recently, and although I did not agree with it, I understand the reasons behind it. However, there are a lot of variety in the hot deals section, and a lot of posts to sift through every day, what if the hot deals section was seperated between say, technology items and everything else? Just a thought to help out those that want either or and don't want to have to sift through the posts, or want the non-technological deals as well.

Sorry to say this... but

Give it up on site suggestions, the webmaster doesn't check this section.

As for your suggestion, when posting in forums 'hot deals' it needs a option...like what categories does this topic goes under? Toys, Technology, General, Clothing, Food..Ect. So when users want specific topics, they can go under that forums. And there should be a forum where all the topics are viewable.

He sees all. Just because he doesn't happen to respond in a particular thread doesn't mean anything.

I read lots of threads I don't respond to. Don't you?

Not to mention, he has the daily job like the rest of us. Geesh, patience people, patience.

I like the idea of splitting up the hot deals....1 for computer related (which I will never look at) and the other for "everything else".

I find this hard to believe, why would he have this forum then??

If he does not want to do this I understand though, definately will slow down the forums, and he may like it as it is with the posts moving so quickly...I just thought it would help people out a bit.

the problem with jilla60 wasn't it was clothing deals. the problem was there 10 or so daily warm deals, and every now and then 1 really good deal. if i wanted to see all her deals i can go to BO and look at them myself.

True, but once in a while there was stuff I liked, I'm lazy, I hate shopping, she saved me some time.

But in addition to her, I see a lot of additional "warm" deals, and more importantly, a very wide range of deals. What this does, is make looking for specific deals (i.e. computer, or something else) much more difficult.

Even since Jilla gone, I've seen bathing suits, sandals etc. which doesn't bug me, I just thought a seperate section for non-computer related items might help sifting through deals easier...

Did you mean split up to:
1. Technological stuff and
2. regulars stuff (clothing etc)

Or
1.online and
2. B&M

IMHO I like both ideas

I like both as well, honestly, I am usually for less forums because it's less to open up and less looking around on my part; but here it's gotten to the point where it's so busy you can not come online for 3-5 hours and the posts be 2 pages away!!!

Whatever would split up the best I would be in for.

How slow do you read?? I scan almost every day and can scan through 5 pages of Hot deals in under 10 minutes, same for Freebies. Do you click every link or something?

The wabmaster DOES read the forums, he just doesn't reposnd to everything, Often a Mod will respond, you have seen both in many threads The Boss so I am surprised to see you say that.

As to the suggestion of splitting the forum- already been made several times under different pretenses and I doubt it will happen since it hasn't yet. Clothing is a rarity from what I have seen- I suspect (tho I don't fully know) Jilla's issue was probabily from posting EVERY deal from the BO website- I remember something about someone questioning if she worked there (self promotion), but I don't remember the outcome.
It's one thing to post warm deals (not really a bad thing) but it's another to esentially "spam" the forum with warm deals or otherwise IMHO.

I don't really think it's needed to split the forum, but if it is a possibility I think the B&M/Online split is more productive versus topical sub forums.

Remember the more forums there are the more work in administering them....

Don't read that slow (although the posts usually have long names, like 2 lines worth apeice), but it's really just the hassle of reading pages and pages, and remembering what I saw before and didn't, and also looking for certain types of posts.

And I understand the issue of more administrating work that needs to go into it, I'd think that the number of posts wouldn't go up much, it would just be 2 forums instead of 1 to moderate, but that is a good reason to not split them up-like I said in the begining, I'm not trying to sound like an annoying jerk, just thought it would be a good idea and wanted to see what everyone else thought.

So chalked up. I can't remember how many threads I've read on this subject. They usually end evenly split or in favor of keeping it together. I personally don't want to see it split, and can tell you that the chances of it happening are next to none.

I would just like a flag to indicate an expired deal so I could filter those from showing.

It's been suggested before but I think that's probably the best solution at the moment. Flag the deal dead and it automatically moves to a subforum.

That was the only complaint about the site in the PC Magazine review. Too many dead deals bumped up.

And no one flagging them (ie - Mod Alerts) so that they are removed (moved to the sub forum) or properly marked DEAD.

It's up to the members to mark these, and if we (the mods) aren't made aware that the offer is done, than more than likely, we as mods will never know.

I dunno bout you but I take a look at the front page every day, then check the first 2 pages of hot deals. If I don't see anything, chances are that I didnt miss anything good. Total time spent: 5-15 minutes depending on how much I see that I like.

Now for me I tend to surf while at work anyway so it seems like even less time, but to be honest 90% of what I want is technology and I would hate to think I missed out on my 70 piece tupperware, crockpot, or clothing deals cuz I didn't bother to look.

Decent idea, but it really doesn't make a lot of sense considering how well it works as it is.

As for the dead ones it's kind of a gray line because some people will get oos while others won't. But I agree to ones with rebates etc that expire on a certain day. I hate getting excited about a product, click a link and find it not priced right, then see on page 7 it says it died a few days ago...

I like this idea the most. That way, the discussions about the item don't cause current deals to be dropped down. For example, the 2 recent Dell deals are still at the top because people are still discussing orders and issues.

my only concern with flagging dead deals are when we get mod alerts saying deal is dead and its not. so we'd have to look at the deal and test whether its still good or not. or when a deal is dead and it comes back again, quite a few people would miss out if its in the dead forum.

Maybe you can wait an hour after the first person says it is dead, and then move it to the subforum. This way there is time to see if it is dead or not.

Possibly one option is that the OP can move it to the dead forum? Tell posters that it is their responsibility to do it within 24 hours after going dead. at least that would cut down some work on the part of moderators.

And they would do that just like they currently modify the title to say *DEAD*?

A lot of times, its not the OP that figures its dead (and the OP may not even look at that thread anymore, as he presumably already got in on the deal), or the OP is not available to edit the thread. I think the best way to do it would be to move/flag all the deals with expired rebates, PMs, sales, coupons, etc - maybe go through once a day or once a week to get those. Price mistakes or other kinds of deals would be too hard to figure out if they're actually dead for everyone

i like the moving to a new subforum
Even if a thread says *dead* it still pushes live ones to the next page. Problem is, it's a hassle if it's reborn

I like the idea of splitting up the Hot Deals forum. I'm kinda new here too (heh) but I think it'd be more efficient and easier for people to navigate the forum looking for specific deals they have in mind.

If you have specific deals in mind, you should use the search feature...
