Problems printing Bricks coupons? This may fix your problem!

So, everyone uses different browsers, from IE to FireFox to Safari.

Sometimes people paste Coupons.com/Bricks links that they recieved in FireFox, which do not work in Internet Explorer or vice versa. You get the "Please wait..." or "Please Install The Coupon Printer" even if you already did.

This trick will allow you to simply change 2 characters in the URL to make a FireFox link work in Internet Explorer and vice versa

Here's how easy it is, the following is a FireFox link:
hxxp://bricks.coupons.com/Start.asp?tqnm=ri3peuo59687503&bt=wg&o=53740&ci=1&c=GM&p=TyQrvJAY

note the "wg" in the URL. This link gives the repeating Please Install The Coupon Printer in Internet Explorer.

To make that link an Internet Explorer link we simply change "wg" to "wi" OR "vi" (in this case, both variations work, other coupons it may be wi or vi, trial and error):
hxxp://bricks.coupons.com/Start.asp?tqnm=ri3peuo59687503&bt=wi&o=53740&ci=1&c=GM&p=TyQrvJAY
or
hxxp://bricks.coupons.com/Start.asp?tqnm=ri3peuo59687503&bt=vi&o=53740&ci=1&c=GM&p=TyQrvJAY

UPDATE: If you want to print Bricks coupons on a MAC with Safari, replace the "wg", "wi", or "vi" to "xs". You can also do the reverse, take a Safari link "xs" to IE "wi" or "vi" or to FireFox "wg".

You do the opposite if you want to print an Internet Explorer link in FireFox!

Apple Safari worked for me. Too bad SmartSource didn't bother to tell us that downloading Safari would solve that problem. Before I found out about Safari I tried everything on their trouble shooting page and corresponded by email with about a dozen different people, none of whom were any help. They all acted like I must be doing something wrong. :mad:

You have to install their coupon printer to print coupons, on a MAC or PC.

This trick just allows users to 'change' the browser the link is calling for, since some people copy/paste links from FireFox or vice versa.

FYI, for SmartSource you must have the latest Java installed for your browser (www.java.com) and Java enabled in Tools->Internet Options->Security tab->Custom level. You want to bubble in the Prompt option for all the Java options except the ones "Marked Not Safe".

I am in the same boat. I have both a PC and a Mac. The PC won't print the coupons.com because I'm still using windows 98 or something like that. Says it won't support my operating system. The Mac won't print because I'm using a browser that is too new, apparently. I get the "printing coupons" icon, but nothing ever comes out. I even went back in and changed some kind of settings in my operating system YIKES! because the help button told me to, but it still didn't work. I hate to admit it, but one of the reasons I bought the Mac was because I didn't want to upgrade to windows vista on my PC and I wanted to be able to print coupons. Sadly, that investment hasn't paid off at all.

If you have a computer that came with Windows 98 it will in no way support Vista. I doubt it would even support XP. Yikes!

As for Mac, are you using Safari?

Did you try FireFox on your Mac?

I have only done that once or twice but I have never been able to go back later and print the second coupon...others may know a way around it ..I just know from my own experience. I'm not sure if that's what you meant but I hope it helps

Just use a virtual machine and you can print unlimited coupons. Virtual PC by Microsoft and vmware server are both free. Not sure if either support USB printers, but I know VMware workstation 6.x works great. :lol:

I do it all the time. I double backclick as soon as the 1st print starts, make sure the coupon is at the top of the page and cancel as soon as the coupon part has printed. I'm so cheap that I even flip the sheet of paper and print the 2nd coupon on the bottom of the same sheet, canceling as soon as the second coupon has printed. :D

Honestly I think that was a prize from MCR and they are ONE TIME USE links (well, you can print twice if you hit back)....so even if you cash out for a BOGO coupon on MCR, then copy and paste the link after printing it to another computer, it won't work.

PM me for the details. I found an old message with the registry key that needs to be edited. I don't want to make the information public as they may make their software smarter. Note that you likely need VMware Workstation 6.0 or later and a USB printer, as you need the USB printer connected to the VM. I don't think any MS virtualization products support USB devices.

However, I just got a new computer (Vista is the Software on it) and when i tried to download the coupon software it tells me that i have to be connected to the internet first. Well, i don't understand that because I obviously am connected. I sent coupons.com a message asking for help and all they said was that they thought I was using a computer with a printer platform or something like that and to try to do it with their stand alone version. I did try that and still can't print and feel like it's hopeless. Does anyone have a solution on this weird message im getting to be connected to the internet first? I beg for any help............ Check your internet settings and firewall. You want to make sure your computer is set to allow cookies, javascript, and ActiveX controls. If your firewall is blocking any of these things, that could be a problem.

Bricks is not supported using Firefox on a Mac. I use Safari and could never print bricks Qs until I read this thread. Now, as long as I put xs in the link it works for me.

I have spent the last 2 days trying to get my parents windows xp laptop to print coupons from bricks.coupons.com and coupons.com. I have tried virtually every suggestion I have found here and on other sites, and it has not made any difference. Their computer virtually has no other problems, and printing from some other coupon sites like smartsource works flawlessly.

I went so far as to uninstall windows xp service pack 3 in order to go back to internet explorer 6 today, and still no joy. Must I totally reinstall their OS?

I have tried every browser there is basically, IE 6, 7, 8 beta, firefox, netscape, safari, it makes no difference for me. It's the same result everytime with a bricks or coupons.com coupon, with bricks it goes to the funky looking page with a zip code box...when I enter a zip code an animation appears but it never starts to print anything. With coupons.com, it keeps telling me to install the coupon printer program which I have a million times (as well as uninstalling, then clearing cookies, cache, temp files etc).

I am not an expert, but would consider myself average at solving these types of problems. I can not begin to list all the things I have tried. Including 3 different printers....I don't think it's a printer issue. I have tried virtually all the security setting combos in the various browsers. This has to be one of the most annoying and difficult troubleshooting tasks I have ever come across.

Just wondering if by some chance anyone else has some more ideas. Considering my parents use their laptop about half the time just for printing coupons, Id really like to find a solution, without reinstalling the operating system, but Ill do it if I have to.

Well, mainly fooling around with internet explorer, though I tried all the other browsers too, I basically removed all the addons except the coupons inc printer active x control. Did not make a difference.

I also did extensive spyware, registry error, and virus scans.

I could write a book on all the different things I tried. None of it had any effect. I can see I am not alone, as a poll on another forum shows 68 percent of people can not get it to work on their systems. But I thought I would make more progress if I devoted two days to it.

As soon as I put my zip code in, push print, my computer shuts down. I have vista. I have never had firefox and it always worked. If this has been answered already (or isn't the best forum) I apologize; I did a search and this tech support thread (http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=49291&t=935946&) is the closest I found.

I know a lot of people here use the bricks & copuons.com coupons, so presumably they're reliable. I was wondering though - do their (required) apps do anything uncouth? Do they monitor my usage habits, have any ads or spam associated with them, etc? Or is it just for them to create unique IDs and prevent me from printing multiple copies or pdfs?

Well I installed vista on the problematic xp laptop, clean install, and guess what....still can't print bricks coupons! I set it up exactly like my vista desktop....exactly, same browser settings, same IE addons loaded, even same printer....and the laptop can't print them while my computer prints them fine. Yep, I do this all the time, saves paper and ink. I have an Epson printer and there is a very predictable pause in the printing and if I listen for it and hit the stop button on the printer then, it with have printed just the coupon at the top of the page and doesn't print the advertising that usually prints below a bricks coupon.

Something weird is happening. When I print out my manu cous for some reason on two of the coupons the bar code does not show up completely but on the very last one it prints fine. It has done this for two seperate coupons.

So if you make multiple copies then bricks and coupons.com shuts you off from printing by blocking your IP Address

What browser are you using? And what version? (This can usually be find in the Help->About area)

Okay so I have tried everything here! I have internet explore and firefox. I have windows vista. Everytime I try to print my browser freezes, or says i need to install coupon installer (which I have), or it will continue to load forever, or it will say printer settings need to be changed. To make that link an Internet Explorer link we simply change "wg" to "wi" OR "vi" (in this case, both variations work, other coupons it may be wi or vi, trial and error):

The exact samething has started happening to me too. I never had a problem until about a week ago. I've un-installed and re-installed. I either get the page asking for my zip code or I get the message I need to install the coupon printer.

Have you restarted your computer? When I install the bricks printer I always have to restart my computer before I am able to print.

I have the same problem...sometimes. If I go to smartsource.com I can usually print the coupons. However, if another website (for example Land O Lakes where I just was) sends me over to SS, I get the message that I need to install their coupon thing. But I have it installed (or at least I believe I do).

And, if I click to install it, it directs me to click a the top of the page for the download, but there's nothing at the top of the page to click.

Okay so I have tried everything here! I have internet explore and firefox. I have windows vista. Everytime I try to print my browser freezes, or says i need to install coupon installer (which I have), or it will continue to load forever, or it will say printer settings need to be changed. That message means just that, there are no more prints available for that coupon. Manufacturers set limits to how many of a coupon can be printed in total. The limit for that has been reached.

This sounds like you do not have Administrative permissions on your computer to change printer settings. Are you on your own personal computer, or a work/school one?

On a MAC with Safari, replace the "wg", "wi", or "vi" to "xs".

How new is your Mac? I just bought one with the Snow Leopard operating system, and I noticed some applications do not work yet because the system is so new.

But if that's not the problem, then all you need to do is open up either Safari or Firefox browser (like the last person posted), go to the Bricks coupon page that you want, and then change the two letters in the URL code in the address bar. The instructions are posted in the very first page of this thread.

I think I had posted this in the printable coupon forum and someone moved it here. This thread is for Bricks coupons. We're having problems with SmartSource coupons which are not the same software.

So, it would be nice to know where the thread for the issues with SMARTSOURCE coupons is.

I've even had e-mailed SmartSource about the issue and I told them that I had done everything as per their help information.

They still told me to check my Java.

Last week, I did update Java and I printed three SmartSource coupons at once. Two printed fine, then the third came out with just an icon again. Since then, just icons. It doesn't matter if I use FF or IE along with Win2K or Vista. I think my Mac stopped working since that's running 10.3 and the java won't update anymore.

Printed fine with FF in W2K. Have you tried different browsers? If one doesn't work for me I'll try the other (FF/IE).

You might try to update your version of java as that is needed to print these. Just go to www.java.com and you should be able to do this.

If you're smart and running some kind of program like Spybot S&D or AdAware or Malwarebytes, once a week or more, you don't have to worry about printing Bricks, SmartSource, StartSampling, etc. Those sites (and some others) don't put malware or spyware on your computer, other than cookies (which many other sites put on your computer, as well).

Those programs will detect the coupon printers as 'tracking' devices, and give you the option to remove them. I just install and uninstall the printers when I need them.

There are some coupon sites that are bogus--I think, though, that if you are a regular reader of this forum, you'll get the heads-up when something isn't what it seems :)

Actually, I have a personal printer right in front of me and I can see that nothing prints. The printer remains in the sleep mode. So, I know that blank pages are not an issue. Could you think of anything else? BTW, I could only see an advanced tab when I open the printer preferences and that has some font & toner settings.

Maybe remove the software and then re-install it.

An anti-virus tool will signal that as ad-ware and it can remove it. Or, go to the add/remove programs in the control panel and remove the "coupon printer for windows". Then, when you go to print, that will ask for a re-install.

The system isn't even attempting to print. But, it's weird that you can print coupons.com coupons. Since, that is Bricks software.

My advise, test on coupons that you don't care about.

Maybe remove the software and then re-install it.

An anti-virus tool will signal that as ad-ware and it can remove it. Or, go to the add/remove programs in the control panel and remove the "coupon printer for windows". Then, when you go to print, that will ask for a re-install.

The system isn't even attempting to print. But, it's weird that you can print coupons.com coupons. Since, that is Bricks software.

My advise, test on coupons that you don't care about.

I just tried what you enlisted(I have tried the uninstall/install before without any positive result) but it continues to give me the same "Sorry! You have already printed
this coupon the number of times allowed." message. This when I tried to print something that I have never even heard of, let alone print. So, this is definitely something going wrong in the Software itself that it gives me the same mesg for any & all coupons:mad:

Time to contact CS (customer service). I'm sure there's a link somewhere to contact bricks. I know there's links on some coupons that they'll send them to you if you can't print.

I've tried contacting SmartSource for issues with their software that I have. So, I figure there should be a contact us link for Bricks. Explain the steps that you've taken. I'm sure you'll get a cookie cutter response of this is what your supposed to do. Let them know that doesn't work....

No. But, I've never heard of an IP address getting in the way of coupons anyway.

The smartsource coupons print with the icon or the UPC only. It's really annoying.

Others have the same problem. But, no solution has been found.

I have been meaning to do a complete reinstall of everything. This may force me to do it. Just to see if I can get things working again.

For those of you that get the smartsource coupons that print just an icon or UPC.

I found that under my preferences for the printer setting. There was a drop down menu for advanced printing. It was set to "enabled", I switched to "disabled" and viola, I can print smartsource coupons just fine.

The confusing part, Bricks coupons aren't supposed to print with advanced enabled. So, this could be a different setting...

Each printer set-up can be different. But, go through and re-check your settings...

I have used it more than once and it really has helped me. :hug: I wonder why it hasn't become a sticky, I see throughout this thread people asking for it to be one, it really is helpful advice that until bricks.coupons.com fixes their problem we will continue to need it.
