OS X is not that locked down. No one forces you to use iTunes, or you can install extensions for front row and play all different videos you want.
Oh, and if you don't want to run OS X you don't have to. Stick in Linux, or Windows 95 or Windows 7 if you'd like.

Apple has apparently decided that it's profitable for them to offer the kind of customer support and experience that keeps me coming back. Will this continue on forever? I don't know, and don't care to speculate. The kind of experience they provide right now is the kind of experience that keeps me in the Apple loop. Which, BTW, isn't to say that I don't also run W7 via Boot Camp too.

|sjsd||Nice deal and CPU is good too but the 2GB RAM limit kills the deal for me. Good for giving to m-in-law otherwise|

Is best buy still giving people $500 trade in credit for these?
But seriously, this computer is going to struggle with most basic tasks the average person uses a laptop for such as playing flash video. If you have more than a few pictures it will take a really long time for iPhoto to even open. It also has the older style trackpad which does not support multi-touch gestures (arguably the best thing about OS X). It will just be a slow, old computer.
If you only have a few hundred dollars to spend on a laptop, why you would buy this just so you can have a mac is beyond me.

I've read stories of folks like me who got out of warranty service. Of course I've also heard stories like yours.
If it helps, tell them you've heard that the home button problem isn't exactly uncommon. Which is the truth from all the informal polling I've done since we had the issue.
