|konedawg||Do you earn RR miles on flights purchased with Southwest gift cards?|

Example: You have a Chase Freedom Card with a $10k limit. You can ask to reduce the limit to $5k and you can get approved for the Sapphire Preferred with a limit of $5k and still get the signup bonuses.

So it turns out that you cannot convert Chase Freedom points to Southwest points. You have to convert Chase Freedom points into Sapphire Preferred points, in which then you can convert into Southwest points. I just applied for the Sapphire Preferred and got rejected immediately. Called up the Chase Rep and asked her to re-allocate my credit limits in order to get approved and it worked perfectly. I have been using the Costco AMEX for restaurants for 3% back. Im going to use the Sapphire Preferred now that get 2 points per dollar which equates out to 3.33% (1pt = 1.67$) back for Southwest points.
Im going to go to a grocery store, buy 400$ worth of gift cards for SWA and get 2000 points. I will then convert the points to Sapphire Preferred points and then back into Southwest points. 2000 points with this method as apposed to 800 points using the Southwest Card.
Having the Chase Freedom and the Sapphire Preferred card is truly an amazing combination.

I checked and my Freedom points aren't worth anything extra towards a trip. It's just 1 cent/point.

I didnt know that points can be transfered to SWA at a 1:1 ratio. This actually makes the Chase Freedom Card completely better than the Southwest Visa Card.

Can't you use your Freedom points for a 25% bump in travel purchases? Or is that just the Ink and Sapphire cards?
What the OP is saying though will work.

Chase Freedom+ Southwest Gift Cards = 5% Cash Back on Flights
I just wanted to see if anyone else did this before. I plan on going to California in the summer and I normally fly SWA. I normally use my Southwest Chase Visa Card to get 2 points per dollar spent.
With the Chase Freedom, you get 5% back on Grocery Stores. It seems you can purchase Southwest Gift Cards from certain places like Safeway (Randalls) and Kroger. This would be a better alternative than using the Southwest Card. Anyone try something similar before? Flights to California from Texas are creeping up to $400+ so we'd be looking at a 20$ cash back as apposed to 800 points (equivalent to 8$?).
