|Dartman||By the way, this lens has very nice bokeh too(the artsy background blur while subject is in focus). I got my Parrot in a calendar because of that fact, along with the fact he was using his molted feather to scratch his own head|

|jeet404||I own this lens bought it when Amazon had it for $144 and don't regret buying it. Not a huge photography guy but with the stock lens and this it lets me have a decent variety of photos I would like to take. While not braking my bank account.|

Unless you can only deal with a metal body, and constant aperture the 70-200mm f4 isn't a good enough improvement over the 55-250mm for the extra price. I've owned both, and while the 70-200mm f4 is clearly sharper and faster AF, both lenses are essentially limited to bright outdoor use.

the market of this lens is obviously for the new/casual DSLR user, likely someone wanting more reach to their 18-55 kit lens (which they are probably already happy with)....... not like folks yourself who looks down on anything less than 1st party red ring lenses

I wonder if there's any review that says a Miata sucks in comparison to a...say, Ferrari 458 convertible.

Got it last summer or so for 150 at Fry's, it's a great lens for that kind of money and looks fine for most normal photo taker folks. Of course it's not as good as a L lens but the L lenses are their best pro quality stuff and priced accordingly.
It's a bang for buck lens that still takes nice shots. If you can afford a L lens or take pictures professionally then look elsewhere, otherwise you'll be very happy with one of these guys. Lets hope it hits 150 or less again soon.

Come on! This is a great lens for the price. I have a 70-200 F4 IS. Yes, it is a better lens. But is it worth 5 times the cost of this one? The 55-250 has IS which is very good at this price point.
That said. I have one brand new for 150 shipped to your door. Version 1. Not grey market. Brand new in box.
