Well, I thought I would update everyone. I have gone back and forth quite a bit, but finally settled on this machine. Too start, the specs I was given were way too much for what I need.... so I am ok with not the "best" processor.
I actually built a similar system yesterday but didn't opt for many of the upgrades (only 4ram, no camera, no fingerprint, 6 cell battery....etc)... I was set to purchase, but the build time and shipping turned me off.
But I glanced at the outlet this morning and found THIS beauty:
1Year Standard Depot Warranty
Windows 7 Professional 64 - English
UltraNav (TrackPoint and TouchPad) with Fingerprint Reader
8GB (2 X 4GB) PC3-12800 DDR3 1600MHz SDRAM SODIMM Memory
NVIDIA NVS 5400M Optimus Graphics
Intel® Core™ i5-3210M Processor (2.50GHz, up to 3.10GHz with Turbo Boost, 3MB Cache, 1333MHz)
9 Cell Lithium Ion Battery (Up to 11.3 Hours Run Time)
15.6" HD+ WXGA (1600 X 900) LED Backlight w/ 720p HD Camera
Laptop - Black
500GB, 7200RPM Serial ATA 2.5" Hard Drive
DVD Recordable Serial ATA
Integrated Wireless Wide Area Network upgradable
Intel® Centrino Advanced-N 6205 (2x2 AGN)
All said and done it came out to be $730.57
I am SO happy right now. It's "new", it has all the updates I wanted, but was going to settle for not having, AND it is pre-loaded with windows PRO. Can't wait til it gets here.
THANKS TO ALL WHO HELPED!!!!

Yeah, I have a Pavilion at home. I don't mind it so much for home use.

Yes, Fal makes a good point - the HP Probook and the Dell Latitude series are good alternatives to the Thinkpad, as long as you stick with those models. The HP Probooks are good, but stay FAR away from Pavilions.

Why not choose from lenovo.
Lenovo laptops are cheaper and work well

Wow, you were right. I show it back in stock.
I need to jump on this one, I think
|10-10-2012 08:23 AM|
I don't have a whole lot of time.

Nope, sorry man - the only worthwhile Lenovo laptops are the Thinkpad T, W and X series. These are the machines that were carried over from IBM & still designed by the ex-IBM people in NC. The Ideapad series are legacy Lenovo machines, and nothing special about them. They're not nearly as well built or long lasting as the Thinkpad series.
Keep checking back at tht outlet - they'll probably restock them.

|RascalMJ||this one looks promising, but what are the major differences in the ThinkPad series and the IdeaPad?|
|10-09-2012 09:24 AM|
Crap, I think they are out of that laptop now!
Yep, just verified. It's out of stock. MAN, now I need help finding something equally as awesome. I looked on the lenovo site and it doesn't appear to be quite the deals now. I guess I really missed out on this one! #sadpanda
Not much else that is similar for under $1000. UGH

I am reading a lot of negative reviews on Lenovo/IBM
Many saying the quality has gone down...etc.
Talk me off the ledge. ha
