How can some people not understand the simple concept of selling YOUR labor in exchange for somebody else's money? If YOUR labor is used, then YOU earned the money paid to you.
If YOU decide to give some of it away by YOUR own free will, that is called charity. If somebody else decides to give YOUR money away, its generally called confiscation, theft, etc.

who refuses to work? what makes me anymore entitled to my paycheck than anyone else? seems like you have some strong sense of entitlement that i just can't agree with. that said, people who don't work deserve to have decent lives because they are a product of the same system i am -- one that must maintain a certain percentage of unemployed citizens so as to keep those who are employed working for a minimum.
note -- i am not in favor of creating a welfare class, as you call it.

I'm not sure why it's so hard for people to understand. I'm not opposed to poor people having anything, I am however opposed to $ being taken out of my paycheck so they can have luxuries all the while those who truly need assistance aren't getting enough because there is only so much $ to go around.

Now, only about 20% of households qualify as "poor." It's logical to assume that if 50% of households have a gaming console, then most of that 50% is not poor, right? Certainly, your graphic gives us no reason to believe that most or even many of that 50% is poor.
Therefore, since the only things that just about everyone has are fridges, stoves, and one TV per household, then we must assume that you're opposed to poor people having these things.

The problem with giving people more and more and more is that they come to expect more and more and more. If we gave people what they actually needed instead of what they wanted I believe we as a society would actually be able to help those who truly need it better. I mean do people realize that old people aren't getting adequate medical treatment, that young children are going hungry because there is only so much pie to dish out. I personally would rather see assistance go to them than to others who spend it on luxuries. Why do impoverished people need to have cable TV or a PS3? What is so wrong with a book that they can't read it. What is so wrong with a basket/soccer ball that they can't go outside and play with it. I'm not a crotchety old man or anything but I can remember a life without many of these currently "essential" needs and it was fine. As a matter of fact we were actually healthier than the youth of today!

Realllllyyyyy now? You poor baby!
Goes to show most people are and stay poor due to their decisions and priorities. No amount of money will solve the educational deficiencies of dumb people who have no money handling skills at all!

Also, seems that most any female can turn into a queen if they search out and work to establish their own colony. They are not royalty, just regular ants who work harder than the rest to rise to the top.
However, able-bodied people who refuse to work and then demand money from the workers are a huge drag and drain on the workers' income. Why should 10%+ of YOUR paycheck go to pay for able-bodied people to stay at home and produce nothing?
BTW please feel free to note the accomplishments of the welfare class in most Western countries. Note that crime, theft, drug dealing, and prostitution do not count as accomplishments.

and i'm not sure what the point of your last rant there is. you seem to be appalled at poverty, yet not at any of the factors that cause poverty. you say i'm hypocritical because i point out that that you are resentful of the less fortunate because there are less fortunate still?

lots of animals are solitary creatures. humans aren't.
the point of my examples were not to get into a discussion on animal social habits, it was to prove that his notion of every animal on the planet knowing they're responsible for their own well-being. humans more than any other animal know they're less responsible for their own well-being.
and who are you to say that humans who don't work serve absolutely no beneficial purpose? humans probably have moved to a point where not all do need to work. less and less will have to in the future. are you saying that in the future, those remaining few that do have to work will be the only ones who serve a purpose? the ones who don't should be left behind to die?
