AA's fit into a C battery compartment by length and have the same voltage. You can buy a cheap C jacket for AAs on Amazon or Meritline, or make your own.
They have less than half the capacity so you would be replacing/recharging the battery more often.

Also, in response to desibooo, AA rechargable batteries are a popular option for many of us nerds; they can be inserted into special adapter sleeves that allows them to be used in devices that take C and/or D size batteries.
