I agree that the Slickdeals search system isn't perfect, but it's ideal for flexible product searches. The problem that I've seen with a lot of price tracking technologies is that they're often times too product-specific. Say for instance, I'm looking for a 55" Samsung LED TV. For most price tracking tools, I would have to enter the specific model number (UN55B8000) because that's how they can keep track of prices. But maybe I'd be willing to move down a model number for $500 in savings, or maybe if a Panasonic with comparable specs were $1,500 cheaper, I would go with that instead. Price tracking technologies don't account for the human aspect of shopping and the inconsistencies between model numbers among stores is also another major concern.
The point I was trying to get across is that most of the time, Slickdeals purchases are impulse buys ("I don't really need this item, but this looks like a great price and I might need it at some point!") and the search tool helps users realize that sometimes, it's not really that great a price if you check previous deals.

Disappointing post. I was hoping for some discussion and comparison of services like CamelCamelCamel, ya know, some useful information. Shoot, maybe that SlickDeals was even adding a nice new price tracking feature, which would be awesome.
Instead it was "Use the search box"... kinda already figured that one out.
(Yes, I understand that there are people that cannot use the search box. This post will leave them still unable to use the search box.)
Oh, and your example misses threads like this one: http://slickdeals.net/f/4234164-Master-Thread-Target-TV-Clearance-LCD-LED-Smart-TVs-Deals-at-Target-YMMV?
Where there have been 42" for under $299. Yes, clearance, but about as hard to get as the BF Doorbusters. (And you can at least swing by Starbucks and hit the restroom and sit in a nice heated / cooled car when looking for Clearance stuff.)

There are 2 people in my household and we have...hmmmm...4 TVs. I think it would be more economical if both me and my wife simply carried a TV to the room in which we would like to view some audio/video entertainment rather than having more TVs than we might concurrently use.
I'm gonna send my wife to the gym right now.

"You currently have five TV’s in a household of 4 people. It’s Black Friday and you see an ad for a 42” HDTV for $299. Do you wait in line for 2 hours for a chance to get one of these TV’s or do you walk away?"
If you didn't select walk away, you have a bad case of SD psychosis.

How to Check for Price History
Thought experiment: You currently have five TV’s in a household of 4 people. It’s Black Friday and you see an ad for a 42” HDTV for $299. Do you wait in line for 2 hours for a chance to get one of these TV’s or do you walk away?
There’s a really good chance that you might find yourself in the scenario above within the next couple of weeks - there’s an item that you don’t really need, but if it’s a good enough deal, you’d pull the trigger. The question now is, how do you know whether or not you’re getting a good deal?
When looking through ad scans this holiday season, be sure to use the Slickdeals search tool before actually planning your purchases so you’re aware of an item's price history. The Slickdeals community truly is a wealth of resources that has crowd-sourced the best prices for thousands of products with all the caveats of coupon stacking and rebate redeeming. This information is freely available not just for today’s deals, but also for deals in the past. To figure out if you’re really getting a good deal, here’s what you’ll need to do:
For the $299 42” TV scenario, a quick search would tell you that there have actually two other times when 42” TV’s have been less than $299 this past year:
In this case, "deal" was used definitively as "best price". Naturally, it will be up to you to decide whether or not waiting for a better deal is worth your while. If you do decide that the Black Friday experience is what you're after, be sure to read through our community's Black Friday Camping Tips!
