|BobbyZ34||Ended up going for the 1613 REFURB for $199 shipped. Figured I'd take a chance on the condition/reliability of the factory refurbished unit for that price. It has all of the features that I'd like, mainly network and apps for controlling the receiver and its functions. Crossing fingers but fairly confident. Thanks for the heads-up SD again.|

same here, after I tried a receiver with ethernet and phone remote apps, I decided I'd never buy one without.

While using the 1712 did you find the "XT" version of audyssey improves the sound quality significantly over non "XT" audyssey? Just trying to make sense of contradictory user reviews regarding the premium "XT". Perhaps I'm placing a disproportionate value on that feature.
I have a 5.1 set-up with Mirage OMD5s L&R & matched C1 center & quality sub & side surrounds. TIA for any reply.

|MIX MASTER ICE||Even my Denon AVR-391, which is a base model receiver, has portable-in.|

|MIX MASTER ICE||
And BTW, the AVR-1712 isn't a "base model."

All the features you listed are "premium" - and you bought a base model....hate to say it but you should have done your research.
If all you wanted was a great sounding amp without the frills - you got the right one.

|MIX MASTER ICE||I have the 1712, got it new for $199.99 from Best Buy several months back. It's okay, but really lacks a lot of features. No USB, no portable in, no air play, no networking and I hate that if you use one of the quick select buttons it erases your set speaker levels and audio settings. If I had it to do over again I wouldn't have bought it, even at sub $200 brand new.|

Is the 1912 as reliable as the 1712? More features=more potential problems. I read more negative user reviews on amazon for the 1912. Considering these are refurbished units I'm concerned about reliability past the 1 year warranty.
Stepping up from the 1712 to the 1912 adds:
* Networking, including:
--- ethernet firmware updates
--- Pandora, Rhapsody, Internet Radio, etc.
--- The ability to control your receiver over the network (using a browser or an iPod, iPhone, Android phone, etc)
* Front panel USB port for connected iPod, iPhone, etc.
* Video conversion of analog video inputs into HDMI output, so you can send all video to the TV with one HDMI cable
* However, you LOSE both the XT version of MultEQ and a component video input and output

I got a call from Denon saying that they may be out of stock on the AVR-1712's and asked me if I would accept the AVR-1912 in it's place for the same price.
What would you guys do?
