Verified with customer service, even if not listed as an authorized vendors if the site is an authorized ecommerce site like CASA the warranty will be honored. The warranty is not valid if the unit is purchased from an auction site or any site "selling seconds or open boxed items." Some purchases made through Amazon may fall into the second category. If purchased on Amazon make sure the order is filled by Amazon.com and not one of the "offered by" sellers. If in doubt call Zojirushi customer service.
I also asked about the original purchaser bit. If given as a gift make sure to include a gift receipt or original receipt. Keep up with the receipt. It is required as proof of purchase to access warranty repairs.

The Zojirushi cookers are definitely worth the money. For those recommending the cheap <$40 rice cookers, I'm not making that mistake again. Two subpar Aroma cookers later, I could have spent a little extra and purchased a Zojirushi the first time around. I've tossed out plenty of rice to make up for the difference in costs. Try leaving the rice in keep warm mode for more than a few hours. Guarantee you'll have some nice rice krispy treats waiting for you. Brown rice... don't even bother.
Anyway, no better way to learn than via the hard way as did I.

|spinn||I've had a ZCC-18 for over 6 years, which I got from Kamei Restaurant Supply in SF for about $140. Unfortunately, I use it sparingly since we got a Zojirushi NS-LAC05 (3 cup) as a wedding gift and that's our go to for everyday use. I used to own a one button National rice cooker, which used to be made in Japan, and it did an OK job if you only wanted rice. The Zoji's make great rice, white and brown, and rice porridge. Can't imagine not having one. For those with Costco memberships and live on the West coast, they sell a 5.5 cup Zoji for about $80...don't know it if it's made in Japan though.|
