Feel free to read my old posts in the Podium and you will see I was calling out the Scooter store well over 3 years ago (I even ranted about them back when I posted on AT a lot). All these medical goods providers are crooks. Why can't Medicare do the same thing it did with the Digital TV tuner discounts and just offer discounts to Medicare patients with confirmed diagnoses via ICD9/10 codes and DRGs. Hell all of that is electronically coded - it would be easy to transmit it to a provider.
CMS wants to put the squeeze on physician pay and hospital reimbursement which is not where the cost explosion is. They should focus on all these free goodies that they unnecessarily dole out to people. I'm not saying a foley catheter doesn't need to be changed out monthly, but having a $6 catheter changed out BID is just farking crazy. If you want a Cadillac go pay for it.
How about Apria always asking me to get those small portable oxygen concentrators for patients who don't even leave their home. Damn forms take me 10min to fill out and cost Medicare $2k for each one - such a waste of money. That $2k would be better spent keeping 10 kids from smoking in the first place and avoiding future COPD altogether.
Nice to see CBS has more oversight WRT wasteful spending than our own Congress. Maybe they're too busy buying MJ collectibles

Not like everyone doesn't know what's going on with all of these companies. It's blatant. From scooters, to catheters, to the CPAP stuff, home oxygen machines, hospital beds, diabetic supplies, and everything in between. This kind of stuff has been going on forever because of the way that the listing system works and lax enforcement. Once the equipment makes it on the list and the companies are accepted as approved suppliers, it's a free for all with what's looked at as nobody's money on all sides.

Seriously, it took a CBS report for them to figure out that the scooter people were ripping off the government???? I knew that after watching their very first commercial.

I knew someone who bragged to us about exploiting medicare. That person was reported. Unfortunately, he made a deal where he ratted out others to avoid prosecution. I say it's unfortunate, because he was bragging about what he did and so proud of it before we reported him.
Basically, his company would get a list of doctors in certain areas that met certain criteria. He would then go to the doctors and make deals with them. Most doctors would turn him away and some would make a deal. None of the doctors reported him. NONE. It was incredibly easy for him to just go to these random doctors who he never saw before and make his illegal proposal.
They would get a list of people who qualify for wheelchairs and such devices. They would then order those devices in those people's names. Finally, they would export the devices to other countries making a ton of profit.
There's probably a bunch of missing steps above, but that was basically the scam.

|Sokiru||I am just kind of blown away by their commercials. They expect me to believe someone is going to cruise through the desert in Egypt riding one of these..... I think not|

My uncle was in a wheelchair due to Parkinson's and I've known people who had MS; not at all related to being fat.
So your original statement is simplistic at best.

Of course not? If the purchaser had to pay fair market price of $500 or so for the scooter there would be less scooter sales.
Instead, the purchaser freeloads.

Being fat is not the only source of mobility problems.
My father has diabetes and his legs are very weak as a result. (he doesn't use a scooter, but that day will come, if he lives that long)
