Is this the same one from amazon?
The model numbers match up the same:
Item model number: TEG-S8g
But the description is a little different:
TRENDnet 8-Port Unmanaged Gigabit GREENnet Desktop Switch (8 x 10/100/1000Mbps Auto-Negotiation, Auto-MDIX) TEG-S8g (Black Metal)
TRENDnet TEG-S8g 10/100/1000Mbps 8-Port Gigabit GREENnet Switch 8 x RJ45 8K MAC Address Table 128KB Buffer Memory

Good point on replacing the transformer...but I've never had one fail. I HAVE had a hard time finding places to plug in the wallwarts nearly all the time, though.

I prefer the metal ones too. They're actually smaller than the plastic ones.
The internal design and production of these are all farmed out to a large OEM in Asia. In the past, Trendnet shared the same OEM as D-Link (Gloal Sun Technology), so I had two wireless routers that had different external casing but the internals were identical.

I prefer having the transformer external because it means less heat generation within the switch and it's much easier to replace if the transformer were to go bad.

Personally, I like the heft of the metal cased one, plastic always feels cheap, especially when the weight of all those ethernet cables will pick up the plastic version.

But....that's probably max power. Average power is probably much lower?
In any case, if you're picky, I wonder if the S80DG is noticeably more miserly with power. I got it since it doesn't have the external power adapter. They say those sap power all the time...perhaps the internal transformer is more efficient.
Anyways...it's a great switch.

|merv333||In for 1....thanks OP. Repped!|

The LED indicators are reversed though. Gigabit on the S80G = Green but the S5G = Amber.

|blackzarg||I currently have a D-Link 8 port Gigabit Switch. Does anyone know if I can just add this to it to expand the ports? Or will some bad stuff happen...|
