|solidst8||FYI, Dewalt is coming out with 20V MAX tools next month, that are not compatible with the existing 18v batteries and chargers. Expect more discounts and clearance sales coming out over the next few months.|

I started with this set and now have at least 7 batteries and at least 4 chargers, assorted. Don't remember exactly how many.

The deal is really good for a homeowner as it comes with two batteries already. Good upgrades would be to get 2 better ones and a circular saw.
Not near as good for work as the drill is non hammer, the impact driver can be done without and the batteries will slow you down.
They sell the perfect kit for really both sets of people, something that would get you through basically anything. Unfortunately it is $400.

Dewalt is dropping prices across the board ... so i wouldn't be surprised if we saw this even lower sometime this year.
This isn't a bad kit, but I much prefer their "XRP" line with the nano-bases. Although the Li-Ion will fit, they look awkward on the old style tools... but that's just cosmetic; for those who might care how their tool looks. But, the "XRP" product line seems to have better quality tools, especially the drills and the flashlight.
This is good for light duty DIY stuff, but if you're more than light duty, might consider looking for the XRP kits like the 6 pc or 4 pc kits. And for anyone who cares, Dewalt 18V power tools are made in mexico with batteries typically from Japan. In contrast, many other 18v power tool brands are made in china.

Yes, it's NiCD, but that's still not necessarily a bad thing, and they work with DeWalt Lithiums if you buy them later.
Yes, Lowe's marks this down to $250 all the time. Still, it's a great kit for the price. I have it and enjoy it.
The porter-cable set they have on sale would probably work fine for most homeowners. Buy this if you enjoy having a bit higher quality tools with a better name brand.
