|MangoTango||Can anyone post a receipt showing the clearance price? I found one display unit but it is scanning at $569.50. I confirmed that the model/sku is the same...|

|popny85||Aaaargh, I went to 3 different Staples that showed "Low Stock Clearance Item" and all 3 "did not have it" : \ I guess I got lucky when I got in on the dm4 deal|

I went on a mission today, but I got the laptop.
The one I got was open-box, but they let me examine it. It was prompting user that "Windows is setting up for first use", there were no scratches, plastic wrap was still on it, screen was intact.
Total was 311.49 - 50.00 Mail in Rebate = 261.49 which is unbeatable for a working brand new 17.3" HP laptop.
When I took it home, turned it on the CPU fan sounded a bit high pitched, so I went back and purchased the 2 year-extended warranty for 100$. (Covers everything except spills and cracked screens).
So currently the total is 361.49 which I'm not to happy about but I wanted to take the safe way because it seems they are only selling the crappy broken ones.

Well, I called and spoke to a manager (or as he put it, the "technology lead.") He wouldn't take the item #, but only wanted the model. After I gave it to him he said they couldn't sell it until it was on final clearance, the demo needs to be out there running. I said it already was on clearance, and wasn't even on display - I was there yesterday. He then changed the story to say they didn't have one to sell, because it was on clearance. Whatever that means.
Another store I visited for the 3TB clearance harddrives said they had two in stock. The clerk told a manager, who went into the back for 5 minutes and came back only to told me they didn't have any to sell, that they were clearanced and sold. Today, when I checked their inventory dropped from 2 to 0. Gee, wonder why.
Long story (sorry ADD folks!), and for those that stuck around the moral of the story is: it doesn't matter if you call or not, in my opinion. These employees/managers always disappear into the back for a while, only to come back and tell you their inventory is way off and they have none in stock. It's a retail employee's dilemma; crappy, crappy job but it has its perks.

If you call and don't get the deal you just shrug it off as no big deal because you didn't have to waste gas driving 50-100 miles but make no mistake, when you called you definately alerted the employee who answered the phone and if he didn't get the deal for himself (can't afford it, etc, etc) then he/she CERTAINLY altered the other employees or even their outside friends (cell phone call in the back room).
What that means is that you didn't get the deal but those other sder's who live near that store but didn't have time to drop by locally didn't get the deal either and that's why it's a bad idea.
it's not always just about YOU getting the deal, it's about at least allowing any sder to get the deal as opposed to an employee because employees have an advantage over us therefore we need to not give them any more ammo than they already have.
I hate to say it, but it's true, is that it's us (sder's) vs. them (the employees).
You just gotta trust me on this one because I've seen it right before my eyes so many times I stopped counting.

Not trying to start anything (REALLY)...but I still stick by my belief...Never call regarding a possible price mistake (or ANY online deals)...but for a clearance item at a B&M at a store that is 50-100 miles away??? I dont see how calling to see if you can order it over the phone and have it shipped is ALL that bad an idea (has worked form me multiple times).
Alright...let the FLAMING begin!!!

Think about it, why clearance a laptop at 25% off and take a 25% loss and then drop the clearance price to 50% off and then ship the laptop back to the manufactuer? If the manufactuer would have taken it back at cost staples would have just shipped the laptop back at that point and not risked any more loss by dropping it to 25% or 50% off.

the gamble was worth it to you but you are using info posted here so that makes you part of a community and the gamble is not worth it to the rest of the sder community because it puts them at risk by alterting the employees of the deal.
If you're gonna use info posted on this site to your advantage than you must respect the others who post on this site or stop coming here.
This goes for EVERYONE!
