Not thread crapping. This is a beautiful monitor. Not that I could afford it. I suspect prices will fall significantly over the next year and would not be surprised if it's at or below 600.00.
Why? Because of eventual economic pressure. South Korea is making a ton of money off A- 8 bit IPS panels on ebay. The same ones they use in the 27" apple cinema display. Yes. They are stripped down and manf warr is a joke when considering the shipping distance. But once I heard that Square Trade would warranty them (50.00 3 years) and if damaged I thought I could count on Pay Pal to set things right - I bit.
For 375.00 with Sq Tde warranty I got this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/190655556...149
Let me add there are other reputable sellers and I have nothing to do with this person other than purchasing a monitor. Bought on a Satuday and at my door Tues morning. No customs issues. No burnt pixels and colors are amazing. My first IPS. I'd say it has 90% of the cinema display image. Now ymmv and I'm not suggesting you forget about the U2711. It's beautiful and has a domestic warranty and easy return policy. There's a lot to be said for that. I wish I could afford 849.00 as easily as I can gamble 375.00. I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
I would imagine that it's shortly inevitable that someone will strike a deal with some N Korean manufacterer and start importing these en masse.... and that's when the price of the U2711 will come crashing down (along with every other 27 inch IPS).
You watch and see

|whitedit||Lusting after the u2711, but even $849 just seems too steep. Would love another stacked coupon to sweeten this deal.|

I was referring to overall simplicity. Not simply the OS. However I can accomplish anything in OS X way, way faster than in Windows, I think it's an archaic expression where it only really points out the fact that it's different than Windows IMO. But this wasn't about you or I. The fellow SD'er specifically said he wanted OS X. He said he was eyeing the iMac's and that is currently the best desktop experience, in terms of AIO and excluding DIY obviously. There is also no need to exaggerate on the specs being obsolete. They'd be no more obsolete than anything else you can buy out there. Yes, this is excluding DIY, because again, the fellow SD'er said he wasn't really looking to build his own.

Good luck with your catleap though. I know it can be a toss up, but man would I LOVE to have that 27" monitor. I was looking at the U2711 at Fry's yesterday and it's a beast. Hopefully your catleap is defect free at a third of the cost.
