The only benefit of 120Hz in and of itself is that you don't have to do 3:2 pull-down to display 1080/24p content. At least that used to be the case. Good 60Hz TVs should look almost identical to your eye.
Plasma is like 600Hz, so it's a non-issue there. Only LCD/LED will you notice the difference.
