I just saw something about composite vs steel, and steel amount inside door and side walls. says it's almost a 6" door but how much steel is in it and what is the guage? anyone can help?
i have enough tools in my garage that they could just cut threw some of the cheaper safes, lol.

I agree with you DarkAmeba. I have been batting around the safe you are looking at too. I have seen your safe and am very impressed by it. I don't think there is anything within $500 that can touch it. I would love to see one of these safes so I can make my final decision. Really the only thing I really like about this safe is the extra foot of height. It is great for storing important papers and jewelry.
Like I said before I think there are better safes on the market as far as being more secure but not for anywhere close to this price. The really high end safe makers will knock this safe for using sheetrock as fire protection but most all the safes under a few thousand dollars do.
For me the big thing is the warranty. Another poster said he had problems with his lock. From what I have read Rhino has improved the lock but Costco will take the safe back anytime you are not happy with it anyway. I have seen stuff taken back years later.

Also I am actually taking delivery of this safe's brother today. Did a ton of research: these safes are by FAR the best value for your dollar on the market.

The model I ordered myself, unlike the op's never seems to go on sale. Has sat at 999 for the last forever. It is smaller and will hold less, BUT it is constructed of 10 gauge steel and carries a whopping 75 minute fire rating.
Personally I need sturdy construction and fire protection more than I need the extra room.
Just wanted to post this as an FYI for anyone considering these safes. You really can't go wrong with any model in the Costco line. They are a tremendous value.

i;ve got a bighorn huge safe and one of the things i dont like is the combination lock is starting to get a lil sensitive after 5 years or whatever. I mean you get a safe and u want it to last forever. But the locking mechanism and the bolts where they go into the safe are getting a little wonky. Its kind of a cheap safe I think. I paid $750 or something for it.
i guess this one is digital my combo is manual like a master lock.

Bighorn Classic 36ECB Gun Safe $999.99 free delivery Costco
This deal is only good till June 3.
I have been around some of these Bighorn Safes and think they are one of the very best deals you can get get for your money. This seems to be a new model at Costco so it does not have any reviews. My friend called Rhino when he ordered a safe from them and they were very easy to deal with.
Things I like about this model are it's size. It says it will fit 36 guns, figure about half of that in the real world, but is almost 6 feet tall. That will give plenty of height for storing things above your guns, even if you have some long shotguns like I do. I like it's weight. At almost 800 pounds you would be hard pressed to find another gun safe anywhere close to its price. I also like the Costco and Rhino warranty.
Things I don't like. One it is not a made in USA safe but then again you can't find anything even close to the price made here. I don't like that the safe only has 45 minute fire rating. Many of the other Bighorn Safes are 70 minute rated. Delivery is free but you still have to get it in your house.
All in all I think I will give this one a go. I wish it was fire rated longer but my house is pretty new and I don't think there is acutally enough real wood to burn very hot and long anyway. Sure there are better safes but not for the money. Most break-ins are basically smash and grab. Not many of those people are going to know how to get a safe like this open, even if they had the time. I do have a nice Browning Safe I will still keep a couple of my more expensive guns in but for the average old shotguns, .22's and deer rifles have have inherited from my Dad and Grandfather, I think this will work just fine. If not Costco has a great warranty and I will take it back.
