|TimothyA3784||I just got one of these in the mail. It is poorly made and you need to hold the cables together tightly with your hand to get the connection to stay. Pretty much makes it unusable. I've come across others who have gotten these that don't work either. Bottom line, they may work often, but the crappy quality doesn't guarantee that they will work I would not buy one of these, price be damned|

Unlocking and rooting the N7 is fairly easier and there is also a way to revert back to factory rom and lock it back.
I had mine rooted since day one and never looked back.
Yes, you need root to use Stickmount and also Paragon in order to read memory cards that have NTSF format.

|jetski777||I ordered and received one of these cables for my Nexus 7 tablet. Tried to use it with the StickMount application, but found I had to root my tablet before it could be used. While not a big issue for those technical minded, may be an issue for casual users. Once my tablet was rooted, StickMount and the cable work as advertised.|

|NateRules||I got this a week ago and it has done everything I asked it to. I plugged my Logitech k400 wireless keyboard into my nexus 7 and the keyboard and trackpad mouse worked great. I plugged my card reader into my GS3 and transferred pictures from a sd card to my phone.|

For the phone to function as a host, you need a female USB Type-A connector, which this adaptor provides. The microUSB to USB cable works with your phone as a slave, ie connecting it to a computer for charging, data syncing, etc.

Does an 'OTG' adapter do something different than just a microUSB to USB adapter?
(DOAH! yeah, what the guy above me said...! Fine, so I'll search for it all on my own... )

an off-topic here:
what is the difference between an OTG cable and a normal microUSB-to-USB adaptor cable?
I have the normal one, will it work?
