It's OEM so it depends. In general though, no.
here's the same drive but with software: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Pro...682713624

|Danadcorps||Thanks OP. I was looking for a BDR for ~$50.|

Why? Lightscribe disks usually carry a pretty decent markup to pay for the royalty to HP.

I actually recently purchased this very drive from Micro Center for my HTPC, but found that it would encounter serious read issues every few seconds with my James Bond: Quantum of Solace and District 9 blu-rays. Swapped it out for another drive of the same model and encountered the same issue, and there's no new firmware to update to either. Tried using PowerDVD 10 (bundled w/ the drive), and with XBMC + AnyDVD using all rendering modes. Connected directly to the Intel SATA ports with AHCI enabled.
It's possible that my problems were caused by an incompatibility with my computer, but switching to a Lite-On ihbs-112 burner and later a Pioneer BDR207-DBK proved that my computer could read Blu-Rays flawlessly. I ultimately stuck with the Pioneer drive since the Lite-On would hang XBMC at launch if a disc was inserted.
My system specs:
Core 2 Duo E8400 (2x 3.0GHz)

Go here for all the info you will ever need about optical drives.
Here is the only BD-R media you should be buying right now. Verbatim non LTH is good as well, but is likely more expensive than the Smartblu media.
Verbatim BD-R 25 count - $28

Or you could get the lite on drive --> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Pro...682710636

Yeah no doubt, they *might* drop to a reasonable price eventually like DL-DVD 8.5GB, but it will take quite awhile. The BD25 discs are dirt cheap compared to BD50's. The BDXL are priced so astronomically high they basically are vaporware, it's a feature 99.999% will never use.

|KILLER_K||Had this drive for a while now. Still waiting on a firmware release to fix some problems with the drive. Talked to LG and they said they haven't noticed any problems and it doesn't need a firmware fix. Hopefully they will fix it though. Good drive other then a few things though. Thanks|
