Gotta wait on these.
The Samsung 840 is being released this month, so the 830's should drastically drop in price, considering they are comparably priced -- $109 120GB $199 250GB retail.

Samsung, Intel, Crucial, Plextor are reportedly know for their reliability.
I have a new laptop for which I want one of these but then there is the issue of Win 7 pro vs Win 8 pro. So getting a cheap one to test on which can later go into my older molasses laptop and then getting a newer one for the newer laptop does seem feasible at these prices and will also allow or further price drops.

However, if that's all you need, it's not a big deal to get them for $5 to $7 or fork out the big bucks ($13) for a dual 2.5" drive bracket .
That is if you don't need the software that comes with the desktop kit - which I personally don't.

According to that article they should continue to go down.

Just as Slickdeals gets a % or a pay-per-click when you hit a link and then go and complete a purchase at that merchant.
I know Discover pays out the quarterly bonuses, and Shop Discover is separate.... but the two systems are linked.
I hope everyone gets their "doubled up" cashback... but I wouldn't be surprised if sometimes people get screwed over on this.
I've had to call Discover way too many times for missing cashback on Shop Discover click-thrus. I can only imagine having to itemize which items qualified for 5% Online Purchases + Shop Discover Offers... across multiple statements (especially since the quarterly bonus is a lump-sum on each statement).

The short answer is this: Discover doesn't pay out the shopdiscover money - the merchant does. The quarterly bonus discover pays. So while it seems exorbitant to get 20% from sears for example, sears and discover opts for this for marketing reasons.
The reason the 5% of tigerdirect & shopdiscover stack is because under normal circumstances you'd get 5% + your 0.25% or 1% (depending on your spending level). The 5% quarterly replaces your 0.25% or 1% with 5% just like last quarter it was 5% back on all gas purchases. If you opt to go through the shopdiscover portal tigerdirect pays that 5% while discover pays 5%.
In the end look at all the free marketing discover is now getting - I mean i'm spending 5 minutes talking about them on a forum. Thats money they're not paying for marketing.

While I have received a few rebates this year for items where it represented a large savings over the same non-rebate item, normally I will pay a little more to get a deal without a rebate. In particular, SSD prices are so low these days, it is fairly easy to find an SSD in the same price range as those offered with rebates, so why bother with a rebate.

As for the 3 months versus 25 days.... it all depends on when your purchase falls and if it goes through before your statement closes or not. Yes, Discover is definitely faster though.
At least with the FW + Shop Discover scenario, you're guaranteed 11% because the two are separate CB offers.
I'm still wary of the total 10% Cashback Discover payout. People have confirmed via chat that the two "stack", but until someone sees it on their statement closing, there's no hard evidence.
Another thing to think of.... what's going to happen during the holidays when they have their annual promotional CB rates?
If both the Shop Discover + Quarterly Offers do "stack", that's an awful lot of cashback payout.
Last year they had 15% CB at Sears... that would make any Sears.com purchase 20% CB.
