Seriously. I swear Amazon is trolling me. I bought this when it showed up on my quick picks last week for $57. $3 off of retail is quite a bit cheaper than Lego.com or Toys R Us with no tax and shipping fee.
The very next day, they have it up for $54. So I call them to see if they'll retroactively price match. He says no but I'm welcome to return the first one for a refund and order a second one at the lower price. So I do. Now they mark it down even further? I think I'm glad I missed the deal yesterday.

Merry Christmas son... go build a post office out of plastic.
Somebody's a billionaire because of that.

I have one and though it's not substantial as a train, it had lots of festive holiday-themed stuff. I actually got one when it was announced and was surprised that it did not sell out right away -- I think it was available for a year or more.
Also there are a lot of Lego fans, and train fans, so combine those, and therefore, any "Lego train" item tends to live on and have a lot of popularity and long-term collectability.

The Winter Village line is beautiful. Highly recommended.

For example, at $120, this set is the largest in the Pirates of the Caribbean theme:
And here's the largest pirate ship from the original Pirates theme... MSRP of $126 in 1993

And I would include this: http://brickset.com/detail/?Set=10173-1
The Cottage, Post Office, and Bakery are still generally available for MSRP or below, but the Toy Shop and Holiday Train have been retired and will cost more than original MSRP.

|pmarin||Someone earlier posted that Target also had this. Thanks! Just got one from Target, price is not quite as good, but it's $60, and search online for a $5 off 50 coupon, making if $55. If you have Target Redcard, an extra 5% brings it down to $52.24. Not quite as good as the Amazon deal, but only a few bucks more, if you just have to get your holiday "postal" on.|
