Does anyone have any tips on updating the Kingston HyperX 3K SSD's firmware? I tried their update utility found here and it couldn't find the drive.
My firmware revision according to Intel RST and CrystalDiskInfo is 501ABBF0 (aka revision 501.) The Kingston support website says the latest firmware is revision 503.
EDIT -- So I took it to a different machine where the firmware update utility was able to find the drive, but when it said the firmware update was successful, it still said the revision was 501ABBF0. :\
SECOND EDIT -- So, I figured out my problem. Apparently I accidentally installed Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver RAID version, instead of the straight AHCI version. That was preventing the firmware upgrade. I ran the update utility and my firmware version now says 503ABBF0.
THIRD EDIT -- Yeah so apparently if any Intel RST driver is installed it the drive won't show up in the firmware update utility. The only one that worked for me is the generic driver Windows 7 installed. Only after the successful Revision 503 firmware update was the kingston firmware update utility able to detect both drives while Intel Rapid Storage Technology AHCI driver was installed.
NO MORE EDITS -- The end.

Funny -- amazon's hourly-updated list of best-selling SSD disks still shows the Kingston HyperX 3K 120GB as #1 @ $99.99, when the #2 best-selling is the Samsung 830 128GB @ $93.00.
I think the popularity of the Kingston drive during the sale is tricking buyers into thinking it's a better drive than the Samsung 830 128GB.

So basically is boils down to this.....
Do you want things to be snappy, move faster, and open faster? Get a SSD
Do you want to runs over 50+ tabs, multiple programs, and/or listen to music watch a video and surf the web better? Get more RAM

If you're not a shoprunner member and don't mind waiting an extra day or two for shipping, you can get them actually a little bit cheaper, and with more colors available at monoprice.
Otherwise, these rosewills seem good for $2 each AC, if 10" is long enough for your case.
There are also plenty of choices on ebay starting at $2.65, shipped from the U.S.

Seagate Barracuda 3TB 7200RPM SATA Internal 120 @ AMAZON
Seagate Barracuda 7200 3 TB 7200RPM SATA 6 Gb/s NCQ 64MB Cache 3.5-Inch Internal Bare Drive ST3000DM001.
I think it is a great price, and the lowest for this particular 3TB HDD.
