|lbwarped||After contacting Amazon chat today, I'm somewhat confident we will have the promotional credit on Black Friday, which is 30 days after October 24th, the date my order shipped. The agent said I "should" be receiving the credit on November 23rd. Time will tell...|

I installed this over the weekend and got to play with it the past couple of days (thanks Sandy for the days off, but keeping the lights on). I have to say overall I like it, a lot. I've currently have 3 copies running (desktop, laptop, and htpc). So far the best experience has been on my desktop (4 monitors set up), I have the metro (or whatever Microsoft calls it these days) interface on one side and the desktop on the 3 monitors in portrait mode. Boot times are notably faster on all the computers as well as general performance. The live updates are actually pretty nice and sync well with my Google account (saves me from having chrome constantly open with gmail and having Chrome devour my free RAM.
The new interface does take some getting used to, but I'm already picking it up pretty fast. The search feature is notably improved from 7 (which was already great). Just press the window button to pull up the tile display and type, it'll instantly pull up all relevant results. You can ignore the tiles if you want, but I kind of like them. The tiles really work well on the HTPC (much easier to click on than icons with a handheld keyboard). I know some people are going to vehemently disagree and say Windows 8 is awful, but I thought I'd give everybody my $.02 and say I like it, and for $15 or $40, I say its money well spent.

Are you missing the old Start Menu in Windows 8? Viva Start Menu has the solution! Just download our free software to bring back your start menu. We also include a shortcut to the new modern desktop and lots of options to customize the start menu.

This has been done in past promos.
Like rebates, they hope you forget about it.
Also, like rebates, there's a time limit to when you have to use the credit.

This is showing up on most College Tech Sites that I have checked:
DO NOT UPGRADE A WAKE FOREST-OWNED THINKPAD TO WINDOWS 8
Microsoft released its latest version of Windows on October 26th. Wake Forest University is currently testing Windows 8 and urges our users not to upgrade for the following reasons:
- Upgrading a Wake Forest-owned ThinkPad to Windows 8 is not compatible with Windows 7 Enterprise used by Wake Forest.
- Installing Windows 8 on a Wake Forest-owned ThinkPad will delete the software load and may result in the loss of personal data.
