|bthessel||Did anyone need to adjust the memory timing or voltage? I am getting constant random BSOD and app crashes and in looking at the dumps it is all kinds of different drivers crashing which makes me think it is the RAM.|

I finally finished putting together a new computer from this combo deal (bought the 3850) and wanted to share my thoughts about it's performance. After doing a fresh Windows 7 install and installing all of the latest chipset/AMD video drivers, I'm a bit disappointed in the computer's "perceived" performance.
While building the AMD 3850 system, I concurrently built a i3-2100 system (with same RAM & HDD) w/o a dedicated graphics card (only HD2000 integrated graphics).
I must say, that for general OS navigation and web-browsing, the i3-2100 system feels a whole heck of a lot snappier than the A8-3850 APU w/ 6550D graphics, despite only having the HD2k integrated graphics.
In fact, I recently did a fresh win7 install on an AMD Phenom x4 9150e system w/ an older 7600GT graphics card and only 4GB of ram, and that system even feels faster than the A8-3850.
What's going on here? Despite the LLano having better WEI scores than the i3-2100 (both processing & graphics) and much better scores than the AMD 9150e system w/ 7600gt, the 3850 system just has a more sluggish feel to it...
i.e. opening/closing windows, drop down menus, scrolling, clicking on links in Chrome, opening programs etc.
I should say before anyone mentions this, that all systems I used/tested have identical visual effect settings applied & HDDs.
Can anyone relate or have any ideas about what could be going on - or just tell me I'm crazy :-)

Just an update. Newegg still has my motherboard, and I haven't received the replacement yet, so I lost out on the rebate (must be postmarked within 20 days of purchase) so this deal is getting bad for me.
So far I am in for $14 shipping to send it back, and $15 for the rebate I lost out on. Not impressed in the least.

This is for the expert SDers.
Is this still a good deal, or there is something better coming up on BF on NewEgg that I should wait for?

I just built mine last night and no issues whatsoever. I booted my Win7Pro install off an 8gb usb drive. The bios date of the MB out of the box is the same as what's available for download on Biostar's website. My suggestion for you is to reset the CMOS, then connect only the bare essentials (cpu, fan, hard drive, & memory) and see if your system will POST. Leave any other extra components disconnected (video card, pci card, optical drive, etc).
How did you update the bios exactly? Hopefully you didn't botch the bios.

Anyone else having issues with their setup? Mine came in a couple days ago, and I found it absolutely refused to read any of my Win 7 64-bit disks. It also wouldn't read the bootable USB drive. It read a Win 7 32-bit disk just fine. On suggestion of a computer tech I updated the BIOS, using Biostar's instructions on their site. After update, the computer powers up (fans running, lights on) but I get no boot beep I was getting before, and no signal to the monitor.
I believe I have a boat anchor sitting here. Any suggestions? I've assembled at least 20 PCs in the past, never had issues like this.

You can prop up an old CPU with a new video card but it doesn't really work as well the other way around since with most games your CPU isn't going to be a major bottleneck.

In for 1 - went with the A8 3850. My Athlon X2 desktop just bit the dust.
I assume I should be able to use my existing DVD Drive and power supply which was recently replaced, hoping I might be able to salvage the hard drive as well.
Couple of questions for a noob as I have never built my own,
Would it make sense to use my NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS with the new setup?
Any suggestions for a cheap case?
Suggestions for purchasing operating system?

Seems to be still working, I am able to add to cart and the ram is there. Am I wrong?
