That is what I figured - performance vs. portability.
I really don't carry a laptop around much, and I have a netbook that goes with me if I am traveling. I will probably pick one of these up.

How's the build quality compared to a Thinkpad T series? The keyboard? I see Lenovo has moved to chicklet type keyboards on all their laptops (why the hell mess with a good thing?!).
That gfx is so damn tempting at $730. I am going to wait or at least try to. Way too many great deals lately.

I can't compare build quality as I have never owned an Acer, though I have carried my y470 around in my backpack almost every day for the past year and it has held up very well considering.
Here are links to video card benchmarks:

Anyone want to share an opinion on the Y480 vs. the Acer Timeline Ultra M5-481TG-6814?
Both seem to be highly rated.

Both ROG notebooks I've owned (G73 and G74) have been crap. Flimsy, bulky, dormroom-kewl plastic cases with HORRIBLE airflow.
Lenovo on the other hand makes excellent notebooks which are NOT crap. This line and the Thinkpads in particular are great. I'd recommend them hands down over an ROG.

I guess the price would come down even more in a few weeks. I talked to Lenovo and they are releasing their new models the Y400/Y500 early Novmber. They will have the options of an unltra bay, if any of you used the older ideapads you would know. The ultra bay gives the option of a Dual graphics (SLI) card, fan or extra hard disk space. I have been waiting for these for almost 2 months now. Here are the links to the new models:

2 large vents in back of laptop, with dedicated GPU for all ASUS ROG LAPTOPS are superior. Hell, throw in a extra cooling laptop specifically DESIGNED for it hahahahaha
Just make sure you buy extended warranty as it would be useful ( your laptop goes in RMA 10-15 times = automatically new laptop )

Makes this deal seem all the more sweeter. Anyone know how well the Y480 stands up to an hour or so of straight gaming? The Asus ROG notebooks have 2 large vents in the back, one dedicated to the GPU and the other to the CPU and it seems to stand up very well to gaming.
