Amazon has price matched:

I get "This item may be available at your local Costco for a cash and carry price." and no add to cart option when I try to get the item online... =\
Also no dice if I try to add the item directly from the "add by item number" option.

You can look at the scanned booklet on our site to confirm but I gotta say the quality is really bad. But I had 2 of them (what a waste of paper) and I can confirm that this is also available at Costco.com.
All Costco special prices are good until 11/25 but only with items on hand so you may want to grab it asap. I try ordering another external drive and the shipping is free but nothing sure about this deal. Bestbuy has the exact same deal but Costco satisfaction policy rock

Why would you buy an external HD with expectations that it will increase performance? What performance?

Memberships are 100% "satisfaction guaranteed" or money back, so get the membership... shop... then say "you're not satisfied" and they'll refund your membership back. =)

If we're talking about failure rates...
I've had 6 drives fail out of 20 or so I've purchased in the last few years. I have about half/half Seagate and WD.
All failed drives were Western Digital. I've done RMAs, and the replacements have failed as well (50% failure rate on RMA replacements).
So, I have a 60% failure rate with WD (not including RMA failures).
No problems whatsoever with any of my Seagates. I also have a Maxtor which is extremely noisy but it hasn't failed yet.
