|gochi||The only deals for Bose I see are from the QVC channel...and QVC deal is always 10-20 bucks costlier than the regular amazon price|

Take it easy on the condescension -- you're not that smart. They're not mediocre, otherwise they wouldn't have a company. But they do have an outstanding reputation, don't they. It's pretty interesting.
By the way, I asked an audio engineer buddy of mine about the mic/speaker sweep thing and he said that's a lousy test because it doesn't account for DSP, so your test is invalid.

I am not sure if I should laugh or cry. Have you been living under a rock?
Every heard of Monster cables? Dr. Dre Beats headphones?
People don't like Bose because their products are mediocre, and marked up 5000%. But they are a genius at branding and building loyalty to their brand.
People do not dislike them because they're expensives.
I will stop here. If you like Bose, enjoy!

I hear that non-published-specs thing get brought up occasionally, too, and it seems like conjecture to me. I'm sure they're perfectly capable of creating something that reaches the specs. Perhaps there's another reason behind it.
Also, the marketing thing. What's so talented about the marketing? They have one NFL commercial, and they have random magazine ads (I think Wireless magazine has one). It's not like it's GEICO and you're getting hit with 7 different campaigns at once. What's so crazy and apparently expensive about the marketing? The more I think about it, they seem under-marketed.
I'm not trying to be a dick -- I'm all ears if I hear something solid of why they're bad, but I think they're just expensive and people don't like it. Like, they overwhelmingly don't like it, but I don't know why, and all the arguments seem kind of loose and/or reactionary.

Ever wonder why they never published specs and measurements for their products, while 99.9% of the manufacturers do? There's your answer.
Bose do not have massive engineers. What they do have is a massive collection of very talented marketers.

That's VERY POOR comparison. Two completely separate matters.
Can your eyes differentiate a 75% or 100% color saturation? Can your eyes see 10% blacks? 20% blacks? etc.
Can your ears hear soundwaves in the single digit frequency? Can it detect sounds above 15khz?
That's where measurement tools come in.

Bose is priced high, yes, but they're still good. You can't just blow it off as crap.

|smokarz||Both the eyes and ears are pretty poor measurement tools.|

Well I agree... but y a mic?? ears do a decent job too... and besides tht u will have to include the coloration of mic in tht equation...as for ears we can always claim to have trained and got golden ears

Take a speaker home. Put a mic in front of it, run a sweep and you'll quickly realized exactly what it is.
A piece of overprice trash.
No offense, just the truth.
