|muddyduck||I tried peach sunrise first and was pleased with the great responsiveness improvement. It was like I was running a totally new and different phone. Then I decided to give Jelly Bean a try. I've been running CM 10 Jelly Bean (camcory) for about a week and the phone has been running pretty solid. Phone is still very responsive and with 2X Battery app, I'm pretty happy with the battery life.|

Rooted mine and installed CM9 a day after I got this from HSN. Was pretty easy once I figured out things.
Here's some posts on XDA that should help.
This post has the steps to install ClockworkMod (CWM).
Once you complete this step, do a backup from the CWM interface so you flash back to your original settings if you mess things up.
Then, follow this post to root your phone. Follow the steps for "Root Stock 2.3.6 w/o a new kernel or ROM".
Finally, choose the ROM you want to install. This thread has links to all the popular ROM's for the Exhibit.

I am now using (wife is using) Peach Sunrise
You need to do your share of reading to understand how it all works. I believe I posted a brief intro to how to root / install rom earlier somewhere.
Once you install clockworkmod (cwm), you can create a backup image of the phone, so if something goes wrong you can always flash it back to the last state by using the image.

By the way I can still go to sound settings and select Phone Ringtone > button and I get a list of all ringtones in my "Ringtone" folder in SD card.
Otherwise, to select a custom location and an mp3 music file, you need a 3rd party file explorer. I suggest getting ES File Explorer so you can browse to any folder you want. This way when you hit Phone Ringtone > It will ask you which file browser you want to use, then you can just use the 3rd party file browser and select your file.
