|tiddi||This is a disappointing "deal"... Not only are the only two interesting titles (Sherlock Holmes and Jane Austen collections) both showing up at >$1 for me, I also got signed up for some national deals mailing list from Amazon while getting the coupon... I think amazon is trying to get names added to their list cheaply with a worthless deal.|

|rcs1||Possibly the single worst front page deal I've ever seen. I read all the time and I've not heard of a single one of these authors (at least not one that wrote anything this century). I am not saying that some of these may not be good - I am certain some would be - but in comparison to the 20 mp3 albums that they sold for $1 each a few months ago, this list of 50 books is ridiculous. At least they coud have thrown in 3 or 4 books that are somewhat known.|

Sherlock Holmes and Jane Austen's books are public domain and can probably be turned up on manybooks.net or feedbooks.com with decent formatting, metadata, TOC, and no DRM. The main downside is you'd probably have to look up the individual titles instead of getting them in one big ebook each. Wikipedia's a decent resource for turning up the list of individual titles and the order of publishing if you want to read it in that order. The second downside would be the additional manual steps to get it into your reader of choice.
Dunno if the Amazon version has DRM, but I assume the illustrations included in them make them new copyrighted versions that would have DRM.
I was feeling lazy for the cost of $1 and DRM, so I just went ahead w/ Sherlock Holmes, spurred by BBC's Sherlock, and somewhat by the Iron Man version. Most innovative.
BTW, print version is $99.99? Ridiculous just to hardbind and add illustrations

While I don't think it is quite as bad as a joke, it is stupid that we can only "borrow" 12 books a year.... one per month. I do get more from the Public Library.

So, if you see a book on the list that you like. It'll cost you $1.
Hope that helps some who are confused.

|justan||Eww... I got excited at first and then disappointed when I saw it was $1 off selected books. Would be cool if it was any books.|

|maur||not sure if this is front page material, but a good deal I spose. Very limited selection (which also is a rampant issue with their prime library unless your into romance novels/mysteries). Unfortunately for me my favorite genre is full of unknown authors or one off newbies. However if you fit into this niche that Amazon like's great deal for you. Or just keep an eye on things and save a penny when they go back to $0.99.|
