Your main goal is to get good coverage and keep water from soaking in so any paint will be better than no paint. Stain won't do much to help unless it's a one-step kind of product with a sealer in it. Your best bet is a paint made for waterproofing, but mine is just a basic latex. Gave it two quick coats and seems to have done the job...been couple of years now and no noticeable problems. Look around and see what you already have. If you have leftover deck sealer or polyurethane from another project then they might work, too.

Okay, I bought this as a perfectly cheap treadmill desk.
I was looking at the $40 SurfShelf treadmill desk since I was impressed by the video . Still I wasn't willing to spend $40 for something with limited space and can risk vibrating my electronics to death.
My question is, what is the width of the vertical metal support? Our treadmill is 26" across so I'm guessing this 34"W shelf will do?
Also, for anyone interested, Walmart dropped their prices a bit on the Ameriwood bookshelves . I got the 5-Shelf Bookcase for $31 free ship to store. It's normally $35 so not much of a deal, but this is still a bit cheaper than last year's prices.

|1wired1||Got four of these last time from Lowes. I had to open two to find enough unbent parts to put one together. I think I have about 10 parts. I haven't opened the other two boxes yet. I wouldn't buy these again.|

|The.Dude||Out of stock for me, but went to the store, and they special ordered it for me at this price. I already have a few of these in use, and while I wouldn't use them to store bodies, they do the job. I actually lined my entire wall with 3' sections in my shop, really useful.|

Not recommended really, if you want to use it as the tall setup. Bought 2 and set them up as 5 shelf setups, and opted to convert them into three 3-shelf setups, after 1 got tipped over.
I positioned one on each side of the door that goes into the house from the garage, flat against the wall, with about 1.5 feet of space from the door jam, to allow clearance for the light switch and garage door openers, for symmetry, and a place to put shoes or whatever too. My old man managed to tip one over when he was over helping with the new home. He didn't say how he knocked it over, but he was mad at it, saying they were too close to the door and that they were weak. It only had a bunch of groceries and canned foods on it. I jumped on the one 3-shelf setup I made from the salvaged parts and hopped up and down on the top (3rd) shelf and found it held up well, but wasn't that confident in it. From that, I simply assumed the rack took an excessive lateral load/hit, causing the frame to twist, unsettling the load, and causing the rack to fall, instead of collapse on itself.

If this sounds jerky or cynical, ask yourself (if you've been a frequent user of this site more than 2 years) - would a $5.95 cupcake stand or $3.35 pack of bar soap EVER have been featured as a front page deal on sd until maybe the past few months?
