You're that obnoxious kid at school that likes to butt into other people's arguments after everyone is done talking, aren't you?

There's a reason every Apple product says 'Designed in California' and not something else.
Regardless, 1K to your door for a MBP that will still be punchy 4 to 5 years from now is awesome.

To each his own. No point in debating here on this never-ending topic. It comes down to owning a Mac for a year or two and experiencing why their customer loyalty is so high. No one's explanation can give you that idea. You have to own it first for yourself to understand.
Btw, Ford has a much higher market share than Audi. Doesn't make it better.

|drprince89||But i do agree on them being overpriced especially any laptop with a "retina" tag. Although that isnt just marketing like some say the screens really are superb but i cant justify THAT premium for less pixelation, especially when i can build a new pc and buy a new aur for the price of a retina mbp|

I also had some rewards and a gift card balance. Tax always kills the deal though. But it's still more than $100 off of the brand new price from Fry's or Amazon last week (free shipping and no tax for me from them).
All in all, I'm really happy especially coming from the 2008 MacBook aluminum unibody 2.4GHz Dual-Core, 4GB of RAM, and 128SSD by Kingston. Battery life is phenomenal and charges extremely fast compared to my old MacBook.

But since you asked so nicely:
I won't deny OSX is well designed. Jobs attention to detail really shines in the UI design. But really, superior? Superior enough to justify an increase in cost? Just not being Windows (market share something like 90% and 99% of software developed for it) is enough to argue that OSX is inferior.
I just finished a warranty repair for a Toshiba ultrabook. Took less than a week to get it sent and returned. Everything was easy and documented. I also had the choice to take it to a nearby authorized repair depot for a one day fix. It really wasn't bad at all.
But the main point is really, there is some truth to the criticism of Apple products being overpriced.
Even if all that intangible holistic value is worth the price tag, it's value you could be fine without and probably get cheaper equivalents elsewhere.
Yes, the package deal is what Apple is really selling. But it's a hefty tag for nice packaging.

|SamCA||I think purchasing an open-boxed MacBook at Best Buy is still a better deal. The price is less than $1000 and you still get the 10% off.|

The superior OS and fantastic customer service alone is worth the higher price.
And the hardware quality is better than most PC laptops within the price range that I've used.

You are clueless.... This mac's memory can be expanded.
Exactly... I bought everything on the mac App store and now I can switch macs and redownload everything. I personally switch macs probably every 3-4 months so its a life saver.

I'm waitin and it hurts cuz i see the deals and want to jump. I'm pretty sure Apple is going to jam out some touch screen Air's and it's going to be a great time to get refurb and clearance deals on the 'older' models.
thib Of course I told my friends it was daft to sink $$s into apple stock when it was $20....they did, I didn't, they're retired now, I'm still working my senior citizen butt off.
