Both drives have the same amount of raw, physical RAM, but the 240GB drive has more NAND reserved for over provisioning. The manufacturer generally sets the amount of over provisioning based on write amplification of the controller and P/E cycles of the NAND.
The review samples sent to most reviewers for the vanilla Neutron drive allowed for more over provisioning on the ONFI NAND. Now, the drive is shipping with no over provisioning, giving it 256GB of unformatted storage.
The Neutron GTX is still using its over provisioning for the Toggle NAND, making it 240GB of unformatted storage.
Edit: I see the other person was referring to the Samsung. The same idea holds though. The 840 Pro has 256GB of raw, physical NAND, no over provisioning, giving it 256GB of unformatted storage.

The common practice (marketing) is to use 1000 bytes per KB for easy division...so 256,000,000 / 1000 = 256GB.
The truth is there is 1024 bytes in a KB. So the right way to do it is 256,000,000/1024 = ~240GB.
They are BOTH 240GB drives, unformatted. Ones uses the inacurate divisor to make it looks bigger. When formatted, they will both end up at ~223GB. This is VERY common in hard drives.
So again, both hard drives when formatted, will be the same size.
*Note, I might have missed a zero or two as I was typing this fast on no sleep, but the point remains the same

anyway I never did any of those tweaks and I have no problem with any of my SSD fail on me. I probalby went through 10-15SSD (OCZ, Intel, Samsung, Crucial ) betwen my laptops and desktops.
though I don't do benchmarking or any kind of analyst on my SSD but it runs fast and night and day comming off a mechanical drive.
no failure yet. (but then again most of my SSD are still under 3 years old and they are for "normal" office/work use)

The truth is that it doesn't make any difference though because one should never fill a 256/240GB SSD over ~190GB anyway. Once an SSD gets more than ~80% full performance falls off drastically.
In theory, one can eke out a few more GB from the 256GB drive. Best practice, however, would say buy a 500GB drive once you get near the 200GB mark.
