|VanillaXtract||I received mine and it seems to be just fine. I don't care for the silver/black or the fact that it has to stand upright. But I would not call the build quality terrible. The only issue was the nuts for the wireless and tuner needed to be tightened. I run XBMCbuntu but the lack of tuner support and HD audio is disheartening, although that has nothing to do with Arctic.|

Anyone else get an MC001-E (with DVD)?? I lucked out.
Mine finally arrived today. I ordered the MC001-N through eBay the first day of this post...but though they sent me a tracking number they apparently forgot to ship because it would never track.
Perhaps a good thing...as I sent them an eMail on Monday..and they sent me out an MC001 E model with both Tuner and a DVD.
I have assembled a lot of these mini PCs...and at this point I do not think it is significantly worse built. It is not all that attractive...and is bigger than most because of the passive cooling, but a silent barebones system with built in tuner for $99 is a great deal.

Power consumption is 25w full loaded (2 x 4GB = 8gb ram , 250GB hard-drive).
what I said "bad quality build", inside and outside are very rough, motherboard is ECS , TV tuner/wi-fi actually are directly connected the internal 4-pin USB port.
the quality build cannot compare with Foxconn and Zotac made ( I also own Foxcom and Zotac e-350 based mini-PC)
generally, it is ok all purpose small PC .
the TV tuner is ATSC (OTA) tuner, no cable-card needed

Regardless of the tuner, does it really run that hot? Is the build quality THAT bad? Could you elaborate please?
I'm thinking of biting on this one but your comment has steered me away.

I also used an Asrock 330ion for a year, but upgraded it to Celeron g530, and never looked back. As other wrote atom is good to play back 1080p content, but pretty much anything else is out of the picture. Now I run my htpc as nas, download client, plus raw converter for my dslr. Just recently upgraded to Celeron g1610, which is a bit cooler. My htpc runs on a 80w picopsu, and the sole fan in the box is an 8cm one, turned down to 1000rpm, making it almost fully silent during normal operation. Technically it is a full fledged pc now, but idle power consumption matches the old atom.

played all day in the weekend.
the quality build is very bad;
the TV tuner is almost useless, "0 TV channel found", very hot when run awhile.

|intimidatorx31||Anyone received theirs yet? Thoughts on performance and build quality etc?|

|ajsoprano||Thank you for the response. No hesitation, just want to make the right decision and not spend money I dont need to. What HTPC are you using? I guess my real question is do I need one with the PS3? I stream Amazon, Netflix, and Hulu on my Ps3. Also download Plex to stream my movies to the ps3 as well. It works very nicely, will a HTPC be better? I am itching to spend some money I think.|

What are your hesitations? I purchased a pair of HTPC for the exclusive purpose of cutting cable. I'm using mine to stream video off the internet; there's a tremendous amount of free content & by logging into my parent's DirecTV account, I can access quite a bit of premium content as well (e.g. CNN, etc.) Mine uses the Atom D2700, which is slightly faster than the processer in the MC001-XBMC. So far, I'm pleased with my decision. Streaming at 720, the quality is excellent. At 1080, it's very good. There are some exceptions ... The Daily Show is somewhat shaky, but the Colbert Report is excellent. Given they're the same source, I'm not sure why.
If you're a casual TV watcher like me, who looses watches TV a few hours each day, I think you'll be pleased. If you're a videophile, it may not be the solution you're looking for.

|ajsoprano||Ok I am brand new and in need of assistance. So if this needs to be moved to another thread then just let me know. I am on the fence with the MC001-XBMC, well actually I was ready to purchase today until reading this. At $229 it seems like a great deal but then again I dont know much. I am looking to cut cable if possible. I have a PS3 that I have been using to stream movies and what not to my TV. Also I will buy the PS4 as soon as it is available (hopefully dec, come on Sony). So do I even need to be looking at any of this? I was trying to get away from having to use my desktop to stream to Ps3 but Idk what I want. Someone help, or tell me to buy it now, or that it would be useless given the PS3 . Thanks.|
